Urgency behind SFL plan

812

Dictionaries across the English speaking world will need to be updated for the term ‘loose cannon’, currently- noun, a person whose reckless behaviour endangers the efforts or welfare of others.  In future they should be appended, ‘Charles Green’.

For months Charles has been busy telling anyone who would listen to him that his The Rangers club will never appear in the Scottish Premier League.  Now, he has told the world the Scottish Football League are set to propose reconstruction which would see the end of the SPL and create one fewer step between his new club and top flight football.  He told TalkSport, “I understand that the Football League [presumably he means the SFL]on Wednesday are having a meeting of clubs and it’s the intention of the executive to unveil what they think would be a restructuring plan for Scottish football.”

Green is one of the few from the SFL who have had anything to do with the plan, few were aware of it until his announcement yesterday.  I hear the other architects of the plan inside the SFL are chief executive, David Longmuir and Airdrie United director, Jim Ballantye.  My source also told me SFA president, Campbell Ogilvie was “in on the ground floor with the SFL plans”.  They will all, surely, be frustrated that Green was out there with the news before the league were.

As STV today reported, the SFA have set a deadline of 30 November for the leagues to agree a reconstruction plan, “threatening they would instead push through with their own plans to bring about change by the 2013/14 season if an agreement could not be reached”.  That’s next summer!

Timing here is everything, and is urgent.

The SPL Commission will soon convene into Improper Registration of Players at Rangers…
the predecessor club of The Rangers…
whose SFA membership The Rangers benefited from in order to compete in league football with less than three years accounts…
and who consequently are liable for penalties served on Rangers.

If found guilty, and no one is holding to the pretence otherwise anymore, the consequences for The Rangers are enormous.  Forget about the inevitable stripping of titles, this is of historical consequence only, prize money [of circa £15m]will also be reclaimed and a punishment levied.

As I have said before, the toxicity of the old club is simply not viable to continue with.  Newco Rangers either have to start from scratch, or the structures of Scottish football need to brought down with any penalties due wiped from the slates.

The Rangers share prospectus, now overdue, will have to detail these risks to the company unless an alternative narrative can be agreed and presented.

The chances of the SPL giving this Longmuir, Ballantyne and Ogilvie plan serious consideration are remote.  It is a nonsense, will be rejected by the SPL and may even face opposition from those clubs within the Scottish Football League who stand to benefit from the change, but will find the motivations behind it unsupportable.

Scottish football is enjoying a well-earned renewal this season, no thanks to the game’s administrators, but the serious allegation, that many leagues and cups were won for over a decade by a club which was paying players against the tax laws of the country and against SFA, SPL and Fifa regulations, has yet to be resolved.

Until we know the truth, hear the consequences, know that those responsible are no longer in control of the game and have been banned for life from future involvement, there can be no talk of expedient change.

STV’s revelation that the SFA have imposed a 30 November deadline is the greatest illustration yet why “heavily conflicted” Campbell Ogilvie should have been on garden leave months ago. All those who carried out the duties which led to this shambles, and who have legal responsibility for it, should receive the life ban from the game that was promptly applied to Craig Whyte.

A swift rebuttal of this nonsense with a clearing of the decks is required. There can be no discussions on these matters while inquiries are on-going and those responsible for recent events are still running the game.

    praecepta,

I dont thnk Vlad is mad enought to liquidate unless he was on real trouble, the administration\liquidation process is very very expensive and from what we’ve seen those millions can be better used :o)

Yep, he’s using opportunities to claw in as much money as he can, at the moment moral blackmail is the scottish way, innit, so he’s just doing his best to intigrate :o)

Folk can read into Celtic’s response what they want to. If the default position is that whatever the support want the Board will oppose it, then whatever the Board say will be met from that default position with no real thought applied to what the consequences of such a decision might cause. I think that reason has to play a part.

On an emotional level I would be quite happy if Celtic never had to have any contact at any level with Rangers as presently constituted, but at a business level I would not want the club or indeed myself to be tied into taking a commercial decision that reduced income without the support as a whole giving them/me the mandate that accepted the onfield performance might reduce because of this policy and absolving the Board/me from blame as they/I were only carrying out the supports wishes.

The CST resolution certainly reflects the emotional wishes of the support but the consequences on the business and so performance of it being accepted as policy need also to be thought about.

Unlikely as it is, say Sevco make a comeback and get a deal with say Nike that would tip the income balance and so results Sevcos way? Who would get the blame for turning their nose up at an attractive income stream? The supporters who tied the clubs hands or the Board?.

I have no problem with the resolution being passed, but the consequences have to be weighed in the balance before passing judgement on the Board’s motivations as custodians of the club.

Principles are only strong if those holding them accept they are the ones who will be taking the consequences.

The beauty of the resolution is that if passed it would mean the support/shareholders have directed the Board to act in a way that might harm performance but no one can moan or blame the Board if it does.

If it fails it means that on field success, which is important to the Board is as important to the support even if it means unwanted bedfellows. (With luck we will never have to go to bed with them again)

    Let the democratic dice roll.

  4. I am really sick of our radio talk programmes telling us that many Celtic men miss the Rangers game & want it restored.

Why don’t we have a vote on site as to whether or not we EVER AGAIN want to see Rangers at Celtic Park.

    YES NO

According to SSB, Scottish Football is in crisis…….and everyone from Stewart Regan to the paying fans is to blame, but NOT the poor old zombies’ or the media (including SSB)…… Pathetic small-minded bigots who have had their heads deep in the sand for years……hello keevins / dalziel & Co, the zombies brought their demise upon themselves, and you want them back in the form of this new club in SFL3 ……. They CHEATED to a criminal level, and we are well rid of their violent, vile support …….. You are only worried about your own jobs, and you contribute nothing but biased negativity to Scottish Football …….. And you SHOULD worry since, like the zombies, you are reaping the fruits of your small-minded bias over many years……….hell mend you, and Hail Hail to all the clubs in Scotland who are trying to work within their means, while concentrating on SPORT………

Calamitous chuck is sensing a victory in this league reconstruction debate. Disappointed with the St Mirrens chairmans reaction. He will be ‘ very open ‘ to it ( league reconstruction)

This will be classified by the orcs and Chuck as a victory for them given his proclamation that newco will not be part if the SPL. The SPL under this proposal will not exist .

This move must be resisted at all costs for that reason alone.

This maniac must not be given any encouragement!!!!

    —-

Bang on mate. Why do you think he was confident enough to state that they would never play in the SPL, he was already peddling the reconstruction with the sevconian bretheren in the SFL /A in the background. Guy is only in Scottish football for 2 minutes and he is organising reconstruction, how humble of him.

Ps re hot water bottle for CP, don’t like idea of Celtic providing the hot water ( excluding the tea bag) I couldn’t afford the £5 charge :))

  7. southside @ 18:54

That did cross my mind, but if money can be made from selling the hot water then the hot water bottle might no longer be regarded as a republican marxist emblem that must be smashed.

On your kind advice chaps (thanks again), my weans and me managed to get a wee drinky (juice for the weans!) in the Merchant Square Beer Cafe in advance of the Barca game.

Epic planning failure by the management though, as they ran out of draft beer at around 6:00pm – missed opporchancity that evening, methinks ;-)

Seats were nice and warm, though.

Could we have one of you guys who is more computer literate set up a way of displaying what I think is our thoughts on bringing back Zombie FC ?

  10. Kilbowie Kelt

Definitely No as Yes for me is fundamental acceptance that sectarianism is the driving force underpinning our game and without it our game is not attractive enough.

  11. Neil canamalar Lennon hunskelper extrordinaire on

    auldheid,

    theres nothing democratic about it.

I understand the boards response is worded to appear that they would be closing an income stream and that would be bad for the club however I dont buy into that.

To me reads, they are too lazy and unimaginitive to be bothered investing time developing alternatives, this is another great chance IMO to lead, offering people the opportunity to buy into our clubs good name carries responsibilty. However, our board dont think like us sponsorship from any quarter regardless of practices, Nike and the child sweatshops being probably the most obvious.

  12. TheOriginalSadiesBhoy on

Regret doing it but listened to part of SSB while making the dinner. Show on full ‘let’s repatriate TRFC to SPL to save Scottish football which is dying on its feet’ mode.

They don’t learn easily do they. A couple of token Tims: ‘Ah’ve hud tae pay the full amount for ma ST but there’s no Rangers games’ and another supposed Tim, ‘Ah hope the first thing they dae is put Rangers back in the Spl. Ah miss the banter and windin’ each other up.’

God preserve us. Let’s promote a club who cheated Scottish football for years just because the Epsilon misses the banter. Will it be exciting watching games v Them again know that they have cheated us in the past and that they would probably be doing it again while you are actually watching – and that you actually went on a radio programme to help facilitate it.

    What an absolute bloody clown.

  13. Kilbowie Kelt @ 19:22

Doubt you will even need to quantify such a vote. I don’t think a single one here will post a “yes” .

I came across a Scotsman poll just last week – “are they missed by the SPL”. 80% No. The other 20% was by Chico Green running around the Ipox and Hampden corridors using whatever PC’s he could find with password “kingbilly” or “1690”, as part of an elaborate multiple posting IP scam.

  14. No to any association or cooperation with newco including games, I wonder how the tickets would be priced should we draw them in the Scottish cup, they wouldn’t would they?

  15. Big Georges Fan Club on

    NO

Not for me, and more importantly, not for my children – I want them to see Celtic’s opponents as sporting rivals – I don’t want my children to be exposed to their bile and bigotry.

I think football has been, generally, quite nice this year so far :-)

Oh, also broke my rule and turned on Clyde for 10 minutes earlier – the succession of “Celtic” supporters – went beyond parody. Good for the children’s education, as, it just gave me a chance to explain a wee bit about media manipulation, 1984, etc.

‘The material we put into our stomachs is

enough to have killed most of us sitting here years ago.. Red meat is

awful. Soft drinks corrode your stomach lining. Chinese food

is loaded with MSG. High fat diets can be disastrous, and not one of

us realises the long-term harm caused by the germs in our drinking

water. However, there is one thing that is the most dangerous of

all and we all have eaten, or will eat it.

Can anyone here tell me what food it is that causes

    softly said, ‘Wedding Cake’
