Victor’s £1m a light amid utter insanity

1847

You want some good news? Around £1m of Tottenham’s money for Victor Wanyama will find its way to Celtic, which will offset some of the economic impact of this morning’s news. This aside, there is only bad news. If we want to buy footballers priced in euros (or anything other than GPB) they will cost more money. We will also have to pay higher wages to be competitive with European clubs.

Goods will cost more – it will start today with fuel and travel, then food, electrical goods and everything else. Wages will buy less (not just less-able footballers). Borrowing repayments will be higher. Business expenditure, wages and employment will drop, so will the tax take – and money available for welfare spend.  The poor always pay the highest penalty.

If you are rich enough and without a mortgage you can indulge in flag waving all day, happy in a delusion that self-determination even remotely exists in modern economies. Or that more self-determination over here, and a little less over there, is a panacea. It’s not, it’s just another economic crisis coming your way soon.

The entire political class have failed us. Calling a flag waving referendum was a grubby attempt to hold onto power by the prime minister; this mess is his making. Whoever succeeds him will have to successfully pander to the same party membership in order to get elected.

Jeremy Corbyn’s mealie-mouthed campaigning was an embarrassment. His “7 out of 10” backing for remain did what it was supposed to do: convince people he was going through the motions for something he didn’t believe in.

Who’s ever heard of a leader winning support for an issue he is prepared to back 7 out of 10 himself? He should go, but political ego will ensure he’ll hang around to make sure Johnson wins the next general election.

It took six days for the Greek government to abandon their own disastrous EU referendum mandate. Instead of attempting a rescue, all our political ‘leaders’ will give us is more populist power grabs. It’s already underway.

And as for Corbyn? He campaigned truthfully however, the media were more interested in “Blue on blue” arguments and the infighting of the Tories.

Absolute tripe. Why don’t you go the whole hog and encourage the younger generation to beat up the elderly.

I’m a pensioner. I’m devastated at yesterday’s vote to leave the EU precisely because it reduces the chances of my son, daughter and grandson to live and work abroad if they so choose to do so. This %age breakdown of who voted for what according to age is probably a lot of made up pish but even if it’s not people have a vote and are entitled to use it to vote for what the perceive will best suit their interests. That is democracy. That’s how it works.

With regard to the last Indy Ref,many people were put off voting for Indeprndence because of the aggressive, in your face campaigning of many YES voters, many of whom came from the younger generation. This blog was invaded by Billy Bhoy and others about 6 months before polling day and the campaigning reached a saturation point which divided the blog and bored the Arsenal of most of us.

If there is an Indy Ref 2, I will vote YES this time, but a wee bit of advice to you and others. Campaign in a more thoughtful, persuasive way rather than shouting down the opposition. Stop stamping your feet because people dared to defy you last time and vote in their own interests. How dare they! I don’t know any older person who will go into a secret ballot box and cast their vote in the interests of a baying mob who have tried to brow beat them into voting in a way that doesn’t suit their own interests.

  3. So that’s it, the lunatics are going to take over the asylum that is modern Britain. To all those cerebrally challenged all I can say is that you have just taken the biggest gamble with future generations prospects of all time. And for all those who voted on the immigration ticket prepare for a massive influx of third world country immigrants in even greater numbers than you could have imagined. All of those in work be prepared to lose a lot of your rights that have been built up over the years. And all of those on benefits be prepared to be hit the hardest, you just voted for an extreme right wing tory government that will hit you the hardest of the lot. So welcome to your new Utopia that you voted for, you are just about to reap all your rewards. This is a sad day for Britain.

My wife, who is a practice nurse, normally gets the wives of such poor individuals coming into see her. The usual request is “can you give the whinging bassa something to take away the pain but I would prefer to keep the swelling”

Good luck mate, 3 years is what I’ve been told and no nooky for 6 months to make sure you’re tadpole free ;-)

  5. Winning Captons, First off, you are one my favourate posters. I am sorry we are oppsite divides.

  6. The originalsadiesbhoy you have a good point and there were some cringeworthy Nats. It is not about Nationalism for me it’s about the well being of Scotland and making Scottish people voices heard, even Scottish Tories, when governed from Edinburgh. We were conned last time. More thoughtful campaigning and more truthful media will help. Hai hail.

Had it many years ago, I have no idea where all this two and more years comes from, a week or so of serious pain and it was fine, was encouraged to do the biz as soon as and had to give a sample once a month for three months to make sure, then another after six months just to make sure.

Best of and be sure to keep them supported, that’s where the pain comes from :-)

    Thank you for the reply.

The issues are certainly complex, and I doubt anyone has a scooby about what will happen next. Rest assured, however, Boris, Farage and IDS will relish the idea of it.

Living away from home for so long, I echo the sentiments of an excellent earlier post that stated he is shocked at the state of Scotland’s infrastructure and services when he returns home to visit. As a South Ayrshire Tim myself originally, I’m sure I don’t have to describe the state of dilapidation the villages and towns experience in this forgotten corner that once Rabbie Burns penned his finest work. Every social disease from obesity to teen pregnancy is evidenced by a local folk that seem content with their occasional scrap thrown their way by corrupt officials ensconced in plush Edinburgh and/or London offices.

My travels have taken me thus far to 91 countries on six continents, and the insight I have gleaned from looking into other cultures and attitudes is that the Scots mysteriously have settled into a back of the bus attitude when it comes to Westminster’s whim. The English centric rule is progressively impoverishing Scotland economically, politically and morally.

Crying foul over masonic influence and conspiracy doesn’t cut the mustard when self-determination is at stake. Perhaps being willing to take one step back for every two steps forward is a sacrifice worth taking for the sake of our children’s children?

This all in the light of someone who is supposed self-proclaimed anti politics…

  11. The complete lack of a sense of history is what really gets me with the EU migration angle.

All the complaints about the 2004 EU enlargement and all the people moving to the UK is one thing — how could we have got it so wrong?

Then we have the current military love in — current day and historical — where the less capable we become the more we fantasise about what we have left and deify what we had.

We as a society cannot join the dots to understand what we are dealing with.

My memory of 2004 was that the doors were opened in part as a thank you to the people and peoples who had supported the UK in 1938 and 1940. We owed the Poles, the Czechs and the Slovaks big time for both our betrayal of their national interest and their subsequent efforts to support our war effort when their countries had been lost.

To me that was worth something.

But now all that seems to have been forgotten and the Children’s Crusade want to take back their country.

The only thing is that their might not have been a country to take back if it had not been for the efforts of our East European allies in 1940 — but they view has been lost.
