Victor’s £1m a light amid utter insanity

1847

You want some good news? Around £1m of Tottenham’s money for Victor Wanyama will find its way to Celtic, which will offset some of the economic impact of this morning’s news. This aside, there is only bad news. If we want to buy footballers priced in euros (or anything other than GPB) they will cost more money. We will also have to pay higher wages to be competitive with European clubs.

Goods will cost more – it will start today with fuel and travel, then food, electrical goods and everything else. Wages will buy less (not just less-able footballers). Borrowing repayments will be higher. Business expenditure, wages and employment will drop, so will the tax take – and money available for welfare spend.  The poor always pay the highest penalty.

If you are rich enough and without a mortgage you can indulge in flag waving all day, happy in a delusion that self-determination even remotely exists in modern economies. Or that more self-determination over here, and a little less over there, is a panacea. It’s not, it’s just another economic crisis coming your way soon.

The entire political class have failed us. Calling a flag waving referendum was a grubby attempt to hold onto power by the prime minister; this mess is his making. Whoever succeeds him will have to successfully pander to the same party membership in order to get elected.

Jeremy Corbyn’s mealie-mouthed campaigning was an embarrassment. His “7 out of 10” backing for remain did what it was supposed to do: convince people he was going through the motions for something he didn’t believe in.

Who’s ever heard of a leader winning support for an issue he is prepared to back 7 out of 10 himself? He should go, but political ego will ensure he’ll hang around to make sure Johnson wins the next general election.

It took six days for the Greek government to abandon their own disastrous EU referendum mandate. Instead of attempting a rescue, all our political ‘leaders’ will give us is more populist power grabs. It’s already underway.

It’s a whole can of worms.

Little England fell for the ‘we can control our own borders and stop immigration from EU’.

No one asked for detailed explanation of how immigration from outwith EU was to be contained.

Going to be lot of head of head scratching when hangover clears and there are still a lot of swarthy faces on the street.

Make no mistake. Vote was heavily racist.

  2. And all because Cameron won an election outright when he did not expect to.

See the tangled web we weave.

There are nearly 300K brits living in the Republic, give or take, I have no idea what it is the other way round, best leave things as they are will be the order of the day me thinks, the carnage otherwise will be carnage.

The other 5 million brits living in europe might not be so lucky.

  4. I can only get Sky News here, can’t get the BBC or ITV, dish is too small to pick up the signal since they moved the sat, so I tend to watch other news outlets, not that I would watch the BBC or ITV anyways, far too bias imo, anyways, according to French and Russian TV, the French are already pulling out their police and patrols in Calais and other ports allowing those who are intent on entering britland free access.

I wonder how Boris and co are going to cope ?

Not posted for a long long time but – outstanding article!!

My business had 3 major projects cancelled today – one £25m in Scotland – more to follow.

The xenophobic ill-informed Little Englanders are about to get a serious shock when a right wing Tory government turns its back once again on the mindlands and the north. They’ll be working till they’re 80 – it’s tragic.

The lack of meaningful debate and facts was an absolute disgrace – for example did anyone know that there are in excess of 30,000 Brits on benefits in European countries outside the UK?

We’re going to see British 500,000 pensioners in Europe coming back to the UK due to lack of health cover and swamping the NHS who will be knackered due to the 50,000 migrants working in hospitals being sent home by the Tories.

The turkeys have truly voted for Christmas.

    H! H!

I will send a bunch of stuff over for the raffle, lots of Celtic stuff, bracelets, belts, dog collars and the like.

Where I will send it no idea as yet

  8. Several Italian friends took great delight today in taking the piss by telling me that I was now an illegal immigrant in their country, and would shortly be deported.

I retorted by saying that I hoped their team would be pumped by Spain on Monday.

    We were joking of course.

I was born in Scotland to Italian parents, and have had UK citizenship since birth. In 1986 I attained Italian citizenship (and a passport) while resident in Scotland. I have had dual-nationality since then.

I lived in Italy between 1990-93, before returning to Scotland to get married.

Since 2006, for a variety of reasons, I have divided my time between the two countries spending 4/5 months of the year in Scotland, and 7/8 months in Italy.

Several months ago I decided that I would return to Scotland permanently, while still keeping a house over here.

Spoke to the wife this morning who advised me to stay where I was, while she and daughter would come over to Italy to live!

She is not enamoured at the prospect of a Boris Johnson led UK government, and all that entails.

    Worrying times.

As long as the Italians don’t decide to leave I will still have a EU passport. Wife and daughter want to apply for one as well now!

    HH!!

  9. What surprised me was the way the vote went in Wales, that is not England, many areas some of whom have benefitted from multi millions in regional aid for infrastucture projects voted out, now they want more money from London to compensate them for that, good luck with that idea, they have absolutely no chance.

  10. i'vehadtochangemyname on

I emailed the Irish embassy in london to get Irish passports for my kids (so should have done it before). Fingers crossed !

The Welsh think people from Eton are going to give them billions of pounds for making up for voting today not to receive billions of free money . How fuppin thick is that?

How fuppin thick am I to join the labour party – 3 months ago – ashamed of Corbyn ! Somebody somewhere is going have to try to reach out and look out for the low income, low education, low mobility millions in the North cos they sure as fupp can’t look out for themselves

cameron the bassa vetoed a tariff on Chinese steel, depth charging Redcar industry and jobs then sends Heseltine in to say it’s alright we’ll start tourism here ! Fuppin Teeside Tourism Fuppin tory bassas. I’m afraid the NE will reap what it’s sown today.

Thanks for being there cqn – rant over. Worried for my kids – they’re going to learn a european language, I’ll make sure of that so they can gtf oot.

  11. With 1 million leave votes in Scotland, you wonder about the point of indyref2.

These folks hands are tied, they need to vote ‘No’

How’s this all going to pan out?

Seems a waste of time as no matter what Scotland’s predicament, no matter how bad things get, there is a large section will vote for the Union no matter what.

  12. QUONNO…

We can abolish it here but if you want to trade in Europe now, it’ll be their rules, VAT will most likely apply, maybe at a reduced rate…maybe not.

    No prisoners will be taken.

    Hande hoch, Graciios.

  13. News just in:

If you voted for Brexit you can have the new Independent British Passport, which replaces the EU British Passport, free gratis and for nothing.

If you voted Remain, well you feckers can pay £145 each to cover the cost of your passport and those of the brave Brexiteers.

The new EU Scottish Passport will be available at a cost of £1,000.00 to those daft feckers who think that there will be a border control with barbed wire, gun-toting Carabinieri, rabid Alsatians and an English equivalent of the Calais Jungle between Engerlundshire and Alba.

  15. Interesting piece on Channel 4 news, an interview with a Polish MEP. After he’d answered the questions, but with the camera still running, he said something to the effect that Britain shouldn’t ever expect Polish airmen to help them again.

Obviously felt very angry and betrayed.

    Sad.

There’s a poll showing that 1 in 3 SNP voters voted to leave.

  17. Delaneys Dunky on

I am devastated by the leave vote. Terrified what the future here holds for my kids and grandkids. Numbed by the consequences of this vote. Want out UK.

  18. Haven’t posted since before the beginning of lent – reading some of the comments on the referendum result i have a confession to make.

Bless me CQN for I have sinned – yesterday i voted to leave the EU – imagine not realising that it automatically made me a xenophobe, little englander and farage supporter.

I really thought i was doing the right thing the EU being a busted flush run by non elected bureaucrats, can’t decide where the parliament should be based so why not have 2, and have never had their accounts signed off.

If only i could turn back the clock.

Won’t be back – obviously my sort not wanted or judgement respected

    Hail Hail

Very telling comments, spoke to two of my Tory voting freinds in England today, they are utterly shocked at what has happened. They made the mistake of trusting Cameron and Osborne, what a mess all of their own making.

The political elite are paying the price but what concerned me is that this affair still shows the power/influence that the Mail and Sun still hold over voters. Maybe this internet stuff is not as good as we think it is?

  20. Triacetate. Kirk’s word to beat Norris in Corrie. Brill. Bit like Leave beating the Remainders.

  21. Gene, You are being silly, if you are a Celt you have a place here. There was pure murder here during Indy debate with all kinds of barbs & slurs thrown but the same people are still here talking about the ‘tic amongst other things.

    TET,

Sorry for the delay in coming back. Dad’s taxi:)

    Re your post at 8.03pm

Re-problem is the government here won’t be able to leave things is the are in a Doomsday type scenario. British Citizens will no longer be EU Citizens and will be subject to the same criteria as anyone else looking to live and work here from outside the EU (they think).

There are special conditions here such as the 6 Counties and the relationship between here and Britain. All of these they think would have not be negotiated.

I had a quick look at the situation in Cyprus re the 6 Counties?

    Who knows?

If you don’t mind the weight of your post calls for mutual silence suspension.

Can you bring first or second name of the MEP,please?

I might be wrong but I suppose you misundertood MEP’s words, his words were taken out of the context, or MEP’s English was wrong, or it was wrong translation. Why I say that?

I think that close to 90% Poles are pro EC. They would not understand why Great Britain voted “Leave” but I’m pretty sure they all would say: it’s not Poland bussines to say what is the best interest of Great Britain.

I would not imagine, one of us would say- “Britain shouldn’t ever expect Polish airmen to help them again”.

WWII is history and we moved on since then.

  27. On the eve of the Independence Referendum the CQN leader article implored us to vote no. Some dubious logic that it would mean Celtic would be more likely to be invited to join the bloated riches of the EPL.

You reap what you sow. No point in crying over spilt milk now. You cannot have your cake and eat it . No more cliches from me.

Actually disappointed that CQN has resorted to political headers.

  28. JmcCormick…

As soon as the sun backed brexit I feared the worse, even though the bookies went the other way!

That bastard paper gave us Thatcher, the power they still wield on the working masses swung it with their scaremongering on Turkey having access to our borders.

  29. I don’t know if it’s true scenario, but I hear that 200 000 up to 400 000 Poles may be back from Great Britain to Poland.

  30. mullet and co 2 on

Changing the subject. But has anyone else had the snip?

As if last night was not bad enough, I am on the couch feeling ok but there’s a slight feeling of having been kicked in the nads not long ago.

How long did it take other folk to get back to normal?
