Wee Oscar 4 Life

1150

If you have been in Celtic Quick News or several other places online in recent months you will be aware of Oscar Knox’ battle against Neuroblastoma.  The CQN community has never been slow to react for those in need.  On this occasion Bundoran Bhoy and Celticrollercoaster have taken the initiative and have launched the Wee Oscar 4 Life campaign.  This is what they plan:

Today we are launching the ‘Wee Oscar 4 Life’ campaign focusing once again on the generosity of the Celtic family and the Celtic Internet community. In the past your generosity has helped better the life of Kano & Vanessa to name but two. Now Wee Oscar needs you 4 life.

Over the next few months, with the full support and endorsement of Wee Oscar’s family, we will be holding a number of events where we will all be able to come together to raise money that will go to helping provide Wee Oscar the immunotherapy treatment he desperately needs to help his young body fight of further attacks of Neuroblastoma (an aggressive form of childhood cancer).

So please look out for confirmation of dates that will be posted over the next couple of weeks, book your tickets for the events, bring your wallets and were possible help us promote the following events:

Wee Oscar 4 Life Celtic Quiz Night (based roughly on the Friday night CQN footie quiz)
Wee Oscar 4 Life Bucket Collection
Wee Oscar 4 Life Race & Auction night

We are also planning a cycle from Glasgow to Belfast for St Patrick’s weekend in March 2013 and will be looking for cyclists to take part in this event to raise funds for the Wee Oscar 4 Life appeal. If you are not from Glasgow there is no reason to stop you organising/participating in a cycle (or maybe even a run or walk) from your local town to Belfast on the same weekend.

Around £80,000.00 pounds has already been donated to the Wee Oscar Appeal and we hope that the ‘Wee Oscar 4 Life’ events detailed above will take Wee Oscar closer to the target of £250,000.00 the family require to raise.

As ever our thoughts and prayers are with Wee Oscar Knox, his Dad Stephen (CQN’s very own Knoxy2000), his Mum Leona and Wee Oscar’s sister and best friend Izzie.

We welcome your continued support and look forward to seeing you over the coming months.

Paul67, thanks for highlighting wee Oscar’s appeal, I know many CQNr’s are already involved or have donated, I myself got to know about Oscar around the 1 nil JL victory over the former club known as Rangers just after Christmas, reason being we were both minding our 3 yr old sons in hospital north & south of the Irish ‘border’, my little man – Conor – didn’t get dealt a good card, with DS, multiple heart defects and an imperforate anus, however despite being told on many occasions he wouldn’t make it thro the night, he has after 10 operations now pulled thro and his cardiologist is talking future again, he’s trying his damnedt to walk now and his sign language is amazing. I know what it’s like for Knoxy and his family but still we knew Conor would make it and he has, although we still have to deal with the DS side of things, I’m sure with all the support of the Celtic family wee Oscar will pull thro this and himself and Conor will get to CP together as I’ve promised Stephen, hope you all help out such a good cause,

Would have posted earlier but there was a bit of mentalism going on by a poster whom I usually quite like but hay Ho

The leader of the Green Party in Scotland. I believe he’s the only MP/MSP to openly state that part of their manifesto would include the closure of faith schools.

A horrible, wee reptile of a man.

  5. For those who think we will pull a few rabbits from the hat, forget it.

The best we will see might be a couple of loans or a cheap and cheerful signing.

Ki will be sold to balance the books not generate funds for new players.

The only way we will spend is if someone else goes for a decent fee.

We’ve been disappointed so many times when we had both cmpetition and money to spend, we shouldn’t get our hopes up now.

“No problem with (rational) negative comments”

thats just a bare faced lie

you attack anyone with any negative comment

you support the board more than you support the team on the park, I find that suspicious

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

just as you attack anyone with a positve comment ……!!!! LOL……but, at least, you don’t become disgustingly abusive when challenged etc …….. As you must have noted, I love the banter / robust debate , but I won’t apologise for robust aggression (not abuse) towards those who seem to ‘make a career’ of criticising our Board……with no balanced approach …….

I find it a bit silly (suspicious) to say anyone supports the Board more than the team when you don’t know that person………I am confident you would NEVER find one word of criticism from me against any Celtic team / player….how could anyone criticise a team which has given that person such happiness for 56 years …….since the age of 6 my excitement on approaching Celtic Park has never dimished……l bought about 5 times the amount of shares I could afford at each of the 3 share issues ……. I have been a member of the Investor Club since the outset .etc etc…….just like a great many Celtic fans, I love EVERYTHING Celtic, including the current Board, whom I have, in fact, criticised in the past on CQN………. If you want me to apologise for that, please don’t hold your breath….!!………and if you ever meet me, you can ‘kick my erse’ for being a naturally positive, happy chappie ……(I promise I’ll then visit you in hospital ……LOL….)

Now, if you want some negativity from me, start a conversation about the oo ……. They are a vile / hate-filled organisation who love, and live, to hate ……in the name of religion…..!!! ….astounding…..!!!!

you mention the main stand facade. At least that was done up for the centenary year. The actual main stand was, I think, constructed in the 1920’s. It was re-roofed and reseated in 1971, but its the same old wooden structure underneath. The dressings rooms and hospitality areas may be modern but the interior concourse is well out of date. When you visit some other big grounds, even Hampden, it shows our main stand up. I’d love to see it flattened and rebuilt to the same height as the rest of the ground. I was at the Dortmund stadium two weeks ago and, apart from its 5000 capacity corporate facilities, is not that much bigger than CP.

From what I can tell, the SNP’s proposed legislation is based on the view “Eff you, voters. We’ll do what we want”.

Two lady friends had one each a few christmas’s back at my place. As I had earlier filled the Turkey with my special herb stuffing everybody was unusually jolly. I nearly gave the game away by asking to go easy on the second round of stuffing. Kids loved it. Especially being allowed to stay up so late as their beds had been commandeered by a bunch of adults exhausted by laughter.

  20. Some thoughts…

    1) If Dave Ki had announced today he was fed up with football, was retiring immediately & entering a monastery I would have been disappointed but not devastated. Nice player, MAY become a good player but rarely a major influence with us. Never aware of anyone round me being terribly upset when Dave wasn’t in the starting 11.

    2) Thought £7m would have been likely fee only because of monies paid to Swansea for Allan & to Everton for Rodwell. Ki doesn’t have EPL experience but does have by way of compensation European club experience & significant International caps. If we’ve got £6m (+ sell on clause?) then fair enough but stll a bit shallow IMO.

    3) Joint sponsorship with them…NEVER AGAIN…always has been my view.

    4) Neither pro or anti DD/PL. Over the piece we have had a balance of playing success & financial security, although some poor decision making at crucial times should haunt PL. However I do think CFC PLC needs some fresh blood, new thinking & innovative management. I think DD should be actively seeking to divest his shareholding to someone who can bring these attributes on board. Merely saying it is an emotional investment, to ‘prove’ he’s not in it for profit is totally beside the point. We want someone MORE active, MORE obviously concerned and with a determination to ALAYS strive to make the next year better than the last.

  21. Marrakesh Express

  23. Awe Naw

I think defensively we are far from strong enough to go with what we have. I pine for Roddy Mc Donald.

-> I totally agree. I believe we actually have zero (ZERO) recognised quality centre backs at the Club (sorry, but holding midfielders, and converted tall fullbacks don’t count..) The night before we take on a side in the final CL qualifier. Is this acceptable to a club of our size? For me, it is negligent.

Yes – we are favourites to go through, but should kayal and ledley both pick up injuries tomorrow, and we end up losing 1-0, then selling Ki prior to this tie would be shown up as amateurish – the behaviour of a club on a par with hibs, falkirk orgerminal beerschot, etc .

I am NOT saying Ki shouldn’t be sold, but why before such a crucial tie?? why is he not with the squad, on the bench tomorrow to help out if needed? th stakes are very high for us in europe, so why are the Club not doing everything they can to ensure qualification?? QPR, swansea, atletico… whoever, will still want Ki in 10 days time.

  24. philvisreturns on

ToneLoc – I don’t think she meant to use Scotland as a guinea pig, at least, not in a bad way.

Almost everybody at the time agreed that the existing system of local rates was unfair. The Poll Tax was supposed to be a remedy to that.

The Scottish Conservatives demanded that the legislation to implement the Poll Tax be accelerated in Scotland, not because they were evil people who somehow wished for electoral annihilation, or to make life hard for pensioners, or whatever, but because they believed fixing the broken system of local government finance would make them more popular.

They got it badly wrong. The devil was in the detail, and the Poll Tax turned out to be riddled with practical problems in its implementation. The Tories paid a terrible price for it in Scotland and the wider UK. Their share of the vote in Scotland has never recovered.

Since then, Council Tax rates have grown to levels that would have been regarded as monstrous even in the darkest days of the Poll Tax protests. Few people protest it. (thumbsup)
