Wee Oscar 4 Life

1150

If you have been in Celtic Quick News or several other places online in recent months you will be aware of Oscar Knox’ battle against Neuroblastoma.  The CQN community has never been slow to react for those in need.  On this occasion Bundoran Bhoy and Celticrollercoaster have taken the initiative and have launched the Wee Oscar 4 Life campaign.  This is what they plan:

Today we are launching the ‘Wee Oscar 4 Life’ campaign focusing once again on the generosity of the Celtic family and the Celtic Internet community. In the past your generosity has helped better the life of Kano & Vanessa to name but two. Now Wee Oscar needs you 4 life.

Over the next few months, with the full support and endorsement of Wee Oscar’s family, we will be holding a number of events where we will all be able to come together to raise money that will go to helping provide Wee Oscar the immunotherapy treatment he desperately needs to help his young body fight of further attacks of Neuroblastoma (an aggressive form of childhood cancer).

So please look out for confirmation of dates that will be posted over the next couple of weeks, book your tickets for the events, bring your wallets and were possible help us promote the following events:

Wee Oscar 4 Life Celtic Quiz Night (based roughly on the Friday night CQN footie quiz)
Wee Oscar 4 Life Bucket Collection
Wee Oscar 4 Life Race & Auction night

We are also planning a cycle from Glasgow to Belfast for St Patrick’s weekend in March 2013 and will be looking for cyclists to take part in this event to raise funds for the Wee Oscar 4 Life appeal. If you are not from Glasgow there is no reason to stop you organising/participating in a cycle (or maybe even a run or walk) from your local town to Belfast on the same weekend.

Around £80,000.00 pounds has already been donated to the Wee Oscar Appeal and we hope that the ‘Wee Oscar 4 Life’ events detailed above will take Wee Oscar closer to the target of £250,000.00 the family require to raise.

As ever our thoughts and prayers are with Wee Oscar Knox, his Dad Stephen (CQN’s very own Knoxy2000), his Mum Leona and Wee Oscar’s sister and best friend Izzie.

We welcome your continued support and look forward to seeing you over the coming months.

  18. If Celtic are spending way over what they bring in then surely the next two seasons is the ideal time to reign in financially and put the club on a strong financial footing for the real battle in two years time.

Of the players we have allowed to go how many have made an impact for us in Europe?

    Answer: none.

I’ve said for years the size of our squad was ridiculous and needed reduced drastically. This has been done very well with the strength of the squad maintained.

I for one would be quite pleased if out of all this we can promote two or three young players and give them a real chance that they wouldn’t get if rangers were in the SPL.

This is a great opportunity for Celtic. I’m not PL biggest fan due to the massive mistakes he made in Jan 09 and Jan 10 but thanks to Lennon’s Celtic he is starting to recover from those awful years.

Apart from that, nothing to add to what I said this afternoon.

Selling Ki-esp for the sums reported-is a huge mistake.

It looks as though, once again, money received in transfers will be kept from the manager.

And yet we are continually expected to improve on the pitch by fans who are continually asked to put their hands in their pockets.

It’s kinda reminiscent of the old board,if you ask me.

  20. I wonder what Mr. Lawwell thinks of the 12-15 million pounds being quoted for Fletcher these days. Opportunity missed.

While Helsingborg invest in an attempt to reach the group stages of the Champions League (acquiring Bedoya and immediately use the funds gained by selling their Icelandic striker in buying Djurdjic), we do nothing with the Ki incoming funds, gambling that our depleted resources will succeed. A contrast in philosophy.

We are going to look pretty stupid if our gamble fails.

  21. Top 10% pay 50% of tax………well that’s pretty damning. Pesky 90% are obviously not pulling their blinkin weight…….except, I wonder how much disposable income each group is left with. I wonder what percentage of income/wealth is actually paid in tax, and most of all I wonder what % of total income is actually going through the accounts of the top 10%.

I think if you look at those figures you will find a significant difference; But hey ho you’ll probably ignore those as well because your mind is set in aspic on anything that suggests there may be a class/money/power set who ensure that their position is not threatened and who wield that power in a never ending vice ring (as opposed to virtuous circle) to ensure that ultimately their own power base is maintained.

That is not a conspiracy theory. That is what is happening every day in front of our eyes, that is what some expound as the morality free market forces led system. Those supporters need to be pitied more than condemned, after all they can throw all conspiracy theory accusations, but it is they who have been fooled. I mean anyone that publishes relative percentage figures and think they support some ephemeral grasp of a mighty order imposed by ‘devil take the hindmost’ economics and childish scaremongering, is obviously needing a refresher course in arithmetic, statistics, logic and most of all understanding humanity.

I sadly can’t be bothered anymore in trying to even discuss other options. Their thinking processes are tied to the ambitions of the dinosaur who didn’t look up at the sky, see something potentially more ambitions and inspiring, and at the very least see the approaching meteor that was about to wipe out any real trace that they had ever existed.

Charred, crushed, drowned and compacted slivers of fossilised lifeforms is all we have now.

So it will be with the Tory concept of ‘bell the bus, I’m on’.

Remember all of that when you consider that a similar amount of talent and objective analysis will have been applied in their hate and antipathy of the possibility that the Scottish people may chose not to have an allegiance within a nations block where the oath that is presented to ‘new passport holders’ states that their loyalty does not lie with the nation, the people, the constitution, or even justice, law or conscience but with ‘Queen Elizabeth and all her heirs and successors’.

No thanks, I would hope that my children and theirs will make a better job of a future and the responsibilities that go with it than a semi-archaic state who have a system that only North Korea rivals in the ‘obsequious demi-god’ pretend worship.

I’ll take my chances with an independent Scotland and the chance to put a thousand things right at a stroke. And if doesn’t come in 2014, who cares……2024, 2034. It will come and history will mention in passing the lack of vision of those who tried everything to stop it.

The heroes ….they are still to live….but they will live forever. We are a small nation, but in the vastness of an African desert occasionally you will find a very small, sparkling, hard as feck diamond.

Has Scottish Football had a humour bypass of late?

Since football was invented we have had songs and chants that are in good humour, those that take the mickey, those that have cut to the bone and those that have crossed the line, in Scotland we now have a government bill that targets those who sing offensive chants and songs. But does that mean Scottish football has had a humour bypass?

Sadly recent events seem to back up the stance that humour and banter has no place in Scottish football, as news broke that Falkirk had suspended their match day announcer, Dave McIntosh, following announcements he made at the Bairns’ home game with Raith Rovers at the weekend.

During the half time break, McIntosh was reportedly to have included ‘the Sevco franchise 2, East Stirling 1′ followed later by ‘the final score from Castle Greyskull was Sevco franchise 5, East Stirling 1′.

Now what was illegal, bigoted, offensive about those statements? Well nothing from what I can see obviously but it seems that numerous Rangers fans had a problem with being labelled Sevco franchise rather than Rangers football club. Even the issue of Ibrox being labelled Castle Greyskull was deemed offensive and yet it was the fortress of cartoon character He-Man – the good character who fought the evil Skeletor. So being labelled good is now offensive? Would they prefer Mordor or Snake Mountain instead?

Of course the humour bypass is now in full swing, with Rangers fans on their forums discussing boycotting the games against Falkirk to hit them in the pocket both in the Ramsdens Cup tonight and the Scottish Communities League Cup tie at Ibrox at the end of the month.

So the decision to suspend McIntosh by the club could be seen as the club taking a stance to protect their financial gain rather than actually suspending an employee for a breach of disciplinary rules. I wonder if the decision was taken after the club took legal advice or if they just looked at the bank balance? The lawyer’s office will certainly be the first port of call for McIntosh if the club decide to turn his suspension into a sacking that is for sure.

The club published an official statement on their website from chairman Martin Ritchie, stating: “It has been brought to our attention that our PA announcer made some inappropriate comments about Rangers at half-time on Saturday. We have already apologised to Rangers and would now like to apologise to the many Rangers supporters that have been in contact with the club.

“Falkirk FC are treating this incident very seriously and the individual concerned has been suspended from his duties, pending a full investigation by the club.”

‘It has been brought to our attention….’ that is a very misleading comment from Mr Ritchie. Was he not at the game against Raith Rovers? Do the board members attend the games? So they had to rely on the emails from disgruntled and angry Rangers fans who weren’t even at the Falkirk game to take action against a club employee when they were at the game themselves and heard the announcements themselves.

Even Rangers club employee Andrew Dickson – one that is not free from controversy himself – hit out at McIntosh by stating on his twitter page on the 18th August:

“It’s one thing having cheap digs at people who aren’t there. I suspect he won’t be so bold to our faces three days from now #actingthebigman”

He then replied to Guardian journalist Ewan Murray by stating: “I thought it was a bit pathetic of him, yes. I’d hardly say I’m losing sleep over it.

“Just thought it was a cheap shot from a guy nobody has heard of….”

When Murray replied: “….he probably doesn’t know who you are either! ”

Dickson finished by saying: “Yeah, he probably doesn’t so I’m sure he’s not losing any sleep either. Difference being I’d say what I thought to his face.”

I guess Dickson forgot his #actingthebigman jibe earlier in his tweets as he acts the big man saying that he would have said something to McIntoshs’ face. I wonder what he would have said? I wonder if he has marked Mr McIntoshs’ cards also? Dickson has a history of doing that also and then commenting on his twitter feed so that his followers then target said individuals who he has an issue with or who do not brown nose. And all this from a Rangers employee – where is the dignity in that? Has he lost his pair of club-issued brown brogues and replaced them with a pair of trainers that neds sport on a night out and in court?

Also it is a bit rich that oor Andrew states that McIntosh is an unknown, given the fact that outwith those following oor Andrew or those at Rangers football club, how many actually know him? Dickson is certainly not famous nor is an individual that is well-known outwith certain circles. I would envisage many-an-SFL fan know Mr McIntosh than they do oor Andrew. But hey at least he doesn’t lose sleep over it, he just sends his angry followers to do his biding like good lil sheep.

Now I do have to state though there are some sensible Rangers fans who have seen the comments from McIntosh for what they are – jokes.

One poster on Follow Follow stated:

Oh, come on guys….seriously? Are we at this level? Fans will wind up other fans. That’s part of the game and if it’s done with some degree of humour it’s fine. The problem is when it is ‘impartial’ organisations like media outlets doing it. But if we can’t let opposition fans have a laugh at us at the game then we abdicate all freedom to do the same back. It should annoy us and we should retaliate with songs and chants, not by complaining to the authorities unless he says something genuinely offensive.

Before I get a lot of abuse, I’m not happy that he’s saying it and will happily join in any (good-natured) abuse of Falkirk. But I’m sure that the Sheep don’t like being called the Sheep; that Nakamura didn’t actually slice or dice many things in his wok; and that Dundonians don’t like being reminded that they live in Dundee.

Our support is unfairly targeted to prevent us singing normal football banter but doesn’t mean we should respond in kind to something as relatively innocuous as this.

    While another stated:

A slap on the wrists is about right, hardly the crime of the century. People wanting him sacked need to lighten up a bit.

So while those at Sevco franchise, Sevco FC, THE Rangers Football Club or Rangers Football Club round on anyone who has a joke at their expense after losing their sense of humour at the same time as their credibility and dignity over liquidation, the rest of us can hopefully get on with singing those ditties, those chants that do not breach any laws in this country and are seen as jokes or banter between fans.

The same Rangers fans who complained about being labelled Sevco franchise supporters could invariably be the same fans who said that singing The Famine Song is okay because it’s just banter or those that wasted police time when making a complaint against Celtic manager Neil Lennon for racially abusing El Hadji Diouf – and then rounded on Diouf for actually telling the truth which cleared Lennon.

They can dish it out when they want too, but they certainly can’t take it. Time these Rangers fans check in at the Southern General and ask the surgeons to give them a bypass or at least remove the broom handle that is stuck up their orifice.

Hopefully Falkirk see some sense and reinstate Mr McIntosh, certainly he will get a lot of support up and down the country as well as from this site. #FreetheFalkirkOne

  23. If the Swedish authorities were extraditing Julian Assagne for something like tax evasion or fraud or even burglary, they know that the British people would not have much interest in the extradition process, which might well have eventually drowned in a sea of public and media apathy. It is so obvious that the allegations of sexual assault were engineered because of the emotive nature of such crimes, in an attempt to clear the way for a smooth and uncomplicated extradition on the back of much moral outrage, until the nasty man decided to hide within the confines of a foreign embassy.

Does anyoine seriously believe that Ecuador would have given him the time of day if they thought the allegations of sexual assaults were genuine?

There is no way the US could extradite anyone on such a flimsy charge as publishing state secrets on the internet, so they decided to dream up new, trumped-up charges, in concert with a compliant ally.

The whole thing is a blatant stitch-up, and there can be no doubt that if Assagne is extradited to Sweden, he will find himself under US jurisdiction before you can say . . . bomb ra lot a thum!

It’s just typical of Australian mainstream politics. It is so banal and downright amateurish.

Someone on here a few months ago posted a youtube clip of Dennis “The Beast of Bolsover” Skinner strutting his stuff in the House. It was electrifying stuff and brought home to me how much I miss the intellectual cut and thrust of the good old House of Commons.

I have a lot of time for Gillard and the pathetic attempts to smear her with a 17 year-old piece of tittle-tattle just says it all really.
