Wee Oscar

613

It’s two and a half years since Oscar’s dad, Stephen ‘Knoxy’ shared the news he’d just received that his three-year-old son had been diagnosed with neuroblastoma, an apparently rare form of childhood cancer.  All the pains and fears of that day, and the years since, came to the fore over the last eight weeks as the disease took hold.  Oscar’s battle ended yesterday.

On this day we should acknowledge the enormous work by so many people to get Oscar the treatment he needed, many of whom would never meet him.  The treatment cost hundreds of thousands of pounds, a daunting figure, but one which was soon met.  Without this fundraising, Oscar would have died in 2012.  Instead, he lived, played and inspired many with his enthusiasm until recent weeks.  His fantastic “Happy Birthday CQN” video message was recorded just two months ago; a gift to this community.

For now, there are no meaningful words for Stephen, Oscar’s mum Leona, sister Izzie and their family and friends, but we will be there for them in the months and years to come.

This disease, in all its forms, is a curse on humanity.  We need more fundraising, more research, more education on its dangers.

Before Sunday’s game against Dundee United you will be able to buy a Celtic FC Foundation badge, to aid work with homelessness in the Glasgow area. Badges cost a minimum donation of £1, a price we can all afford to help our neighbours in most need.

Well said my friend. You have put into words the pain we all feel right now.

The pain his family feel right now is almost unimaginable. The wee Mhan with his great courage was an inspiration to us all.

Sincere condolences to the Knox family this evening, the wee man was an inspiration for so many of us, he kept us entranced with all of his tweets and photographs as we hoped for a miracle to happen. Tonight he will be among the other greats of our Celtic family.

  3. Hopefully time will heal the pain for Oscar’s parents. His spirit will live on with so many who witnessed his remarkable life.

  4. I’ve been travelling most of the week and haven’t had much time to lurk.

Just logged on to find out a wee guy,who punched above his weight for his short time on this earth, and that I knew very little about(as a relative newcomer to this wonderful blog) has passed away.

Tears are blinding me…..he was some wee guy….regardless of clinical analysis that it was a hopeless cause from the initial diagnosis.

Like many on here I have been affected by infant mortality in my family(in my case siblings) and it never leaves you even 40 odd years on.It is not the natural order of life for children to die before their parents.

Oscar wee hero……Rest in Paradise little fighter.

Your parents and your sister……May God Bless You for the rest of your lives.

I’m struggling with my God at the minute…..Angry with him….

Wee Man you were an inspiration.

CQN community…..take a bow……The Wee Fighter’s life was better for knowing you guys really cared.

    Sleep tight wee man…….

An example to every last one of us.

My thoughts tonight are with the family of Oscar Knox. You may be gone wee man but as long as we live you will never be forgoten and will forever be in our hearts.

  28. People who have a better way with words than me have already expressed the thoughts and feelings of us all for Wee Oscar and his family, it is at times like this that the true value of family is shown.

We all cannot begin to know how his immediate family will be feeling but I hope in some small way the strength of the emotion shown on these pages will help them cope a bit better by knowing the impact this small child had on us all.

May he rest in peace in the arms of the Angels

  29. Ghod Bless Oscar and his family, May they gain strength from the courage and love of life their child showed. YNWA

  30. God bless you Oscar.

And God bless all of you out there in CQN land your tributes have kept my tears flowing all day.

Not posted in a while, but have to add my condolences, thoughts and prayers for Stephen, Leona and Izzie. No one should be put through what they have endured, never mind what that inspiring little boy had to contend with. There have been so many wonderful posts today that are a testament to just how many people worldwide were reached by Oscar’s bravest of battles.

May be he rest in peace and he will always remain a hero to so many.
