The good people running the weeoscar4life campaign have been in touch and asked me to pass on information regarding the appeal and forthcoming quiz night in Glasgow later this month:
“As many of you will be aware the weeoscar4life campaign team have recently been involved in raising the profile of a wee 3 year old boy from Belfast called Oscar. Many of you have kindly supported this initiative by purchasing CQN badges and wee Oscar wristbands and taking part in the “Small Change for US, Big Change for Oscar campaign”, with the money raised all going towards getting Oscar the treatment that he so desperately needs.
The next event that we have organised to help raise the £250,000 required for Oscar’s treatment is a quiz night. This will take place on the 29th September in The Phoenix (Previously Eastenders) on the Gallowgate with a 7pm start.
The quiz will be made up of a variety of questions, 50% Celtic related and 50% general knowledge. There will be raffle prizes and we also hope to have some live music after the quiz has finished.
Tickets are priced at £5 and you can buy as many as you wish for friends and family so long as they are over 18. Don’t worry if you aren’t able to make up a team of 4/5 as we will arrange you into teams before the event. We hope to be able to offer a ‘print at home’ ticket service so that you would be able to simply bring your tickets on the night.

I remember big Jock being quizzed by a hack at the start of season 67/68 on the eve of the first “Glasgow Derby” of the season (league cup game). It went something like:
“So, Jock, apprehensive about the game tomorrow at Ibrox?”
“Listen. Recently we have played Inter Milan in the European Cup final in Lisbon and beaten them.
We have also been to the Bernabeu stadium and beaten Real Madrid.
Eh, I don’t think WE should be apprehensive about tomorrow.”

Former Germany international Andreas Hinkel has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 30.
Hinkel, who won 21 caps between 2003 and 2009, played for Freiburg last season having previously spent three seasons at Celtic, winning the Scottish Premier League title and two cups during his time at Parkhead
The full-back, having started his professional career with Stuttgart, also spent two years with Sevilla in Spain and was part of the squad that won the 2007 UEFA Cup as well as the Copa del Rey, Spanish Supercopa and UEFA Super Cup.
Hinkel announced his decision to hang up his boots on his blog while also confirming his intention to stay in football in some capacity in the future.
He said: “There’s something important I need to tell you. I decided to end my career as football pro. It was not a snap decision, but a step that has been planned for some time. I’ve even been busy with my new career for a few weeks already.
“I know many may think that 30 is no age to quit. But in my case I have a different opinion. I played football at a very high level for 12 years – 12 wonderful intensive years with amazing experiences, first class clubs and overwhelming supporters.
“Of course, I had opportunities to carry on. There were a lot of offers in recent months, especially from abroad. But together with my family I decided that this would not have been the right thing for us anymore. I have two kids – and no desire to sign a contract somewhere just to prolong my career for a little while. That’s not my way.”
Regarding his future plans, Hinkel added: “I am thrilled to begin a new chapter in my life and full of energy to start it. It goes without saying that this chapter will also be in football, this is the best sport in the world.
“I have several ideas, but before I can start to implement them, I want to improve my skills and knowledge in all respective areas. Right now I’m working to get a coaching licence

I attended both games .My recollection was that in the first game we pummelled the Huns and were desperately unlucky not to win by a 4 or 5 but it was one those days when they just wouldnt go in. The replay was a much more even game and the Huns scored a bit of a flukey goal with a 40 yard daisycutter from Kai Johansen with Simpson somewhat at fault. I also recall the bitter disappointment of that defeat. Little did I know what lay ahead. It would be 4 years before the Huns would win another trophy the League Cup in 1970, a further 9 years in the league and 7 before the would win the SC again.

I was sitting reading through today’s posts & suddenly thought of one particular poster whose submissions I always enjoyed, but have not been aware of recently. He was the good face of our suffering neighbours, Edward Ursus.
I think CQN is a poorer place without this decent & knowledgeable guy.

When I first started reading these pages and the responses to Edward, they were always good natured, amusing and respectful. I think that this was because many realised that he was a Rangers’ supporter and not a hun.
Sadly, the last few times that he’s ventured on to CQN he has been treated shabbily, to say the least, by one or two on here.
I’m not surprised that his absences will be longer than before. A real shame.

We hammered them during the game, but couldn’t get the ball in the net.
Late on, Johannson ran on to a ball, whilst John stood looking at him and planted an unsaveabe shot into the not.
Not sure if the Big Man fully trusted Yogi after that.
A story going at the time was that after the game, Jock called Yogi and Jinky together and got them to show their legs.
After checking Jinky, he said to Yogi, “now, show us your bruises”.

In Scotland today 2012 there is a book so shocking that thousands of people are trying to get it banned, the books subject matter is so disgraceful that it can’t be sold from a display stand and in most Glasgow book shops it’s sold under the counter, the author has had many death threats to himself and his family…
That book is called Downfall and it’s subject is the death of a football team, Rangers FC. Tell me again why that club is worth saving, it’s seems to me their support has moved to a new level of stupidity.
