Well done, Celtic

310

Sunday was a huge test of Celtic’s apparent return to form.  Aberdeen had the luxury of training and preparing for their semi-final, while Celtic travelled to France to play on-form Lille; an exhausting occasion.

Apart from a couple of ominous looking early cross balls, the game was completely controlled by the holders, as they secured yet another domestic cup win: 35 without reply.  100 years from now fans will look back on this period in their record books and wonder at the incessant adulation the Celtic players and manager must surely have received……

Ryan Christie comes in for his fair share of criticism for shooting from distances that beggar belief.  When offered inviting space 26 yards from goal he was always going to have a pop; it evaded the despairing lunge of Joe Lewis and found the top right corner of the ‘keeper’s net.  It was a symmetrical strike to Mohamed Elyounoussi’s first in Lille.

By this stage, Odsonne Edouard, on his first start since recovering from Covid, passed up a double chance and, as manager Derek McInnes would later observe, the Aberdeen defence were “spooked” by his presence.  Tom Rogic crafted the second and final goal of the game when he crossed from an unlikely angle, pitching the ball over Lewis to drop at the far post, where Elyounoussi  committed to the cause, and the post*, to score.

There were many tired legs and minds in green and white in the second half but Neil Lennon chose to defend what he had.  Aberdeen were given plenty of the ball but were unable to trouble Scott Bain.  I was happy to see us play like this, there will be many occasions this season when we will need to shut up shop.

Hearts will attempt to be the first team to win the Scottish Cup in the ‘season’ they were relegated.  It will be an historic final either way, as Celtic can become the first club to win four consecutive Scottish Cups, moving clear of the record they share with Aberdeen, Rangers and Queen’s Park.

We have become accustomed to setting records.  The Invincible Treble was delicious and the first back-to-back treble historically special in its own right.  That it was more of the same, did not make the last Scottish Cup final, also against Hearts, any less tense or celebrated.  It is as though each additional achievement makes the next trophy all the more important, to Celtic and to everyone else.

Well done, Celtic.

I would like to hope our custodians will ask the Scottish Government for clarity over Sevco players breaking covid – 19 protocol.

Although I wont hold out any hopes of it.

So let’s keep the momentum gathering pace and get a good result on Thursday and hammer the hammer throwers of Murderwell on Sunday.

I can’t remember the name of it but the lyrics were; I’m looking for a looking for a job wae a sky high pay, a 3 day week and a two hour day, maybe it’s because I’m inclined that way, but I never did like being idle.

It’s no surprise to see how Celtic get treated differently. It’s par for the course.

Like some others, the biggest surprise for me today was finding out that Rocky is not a dog. Who knew!

    ……………………….

I have to fess up that like several others on here, I too thought that Rocky was a dog. Totally shocked to discover that he is, in fact, a puddy cat. 🤣

    ……………………….

To ALL who thought that wee Rocky Bhoy was a Dug….

That was MOSTLY my fault as when I first Posted about him being very unwell, I dont think I mentioned what kind of animal he was…He could have been a hippo or a Snake for example LOL ?

Some Posters ( NOT DAVID66…as he was/is fully aware that Rockys is a CAT)), said some kind words about Rocky in a couple of Posts. and I thank them all for that, however I decided just to ” let” the Posters assume whatever they wanted, because at the end of the Day…it surely does NOT matter whether he is a Cat or a Dog…He’s been my wee Bhoy for over 14 years…my BEST Pal for all that time.

No harm meant by me 100%

    Explain yourself BIG JIMMY 🤷‍♀️

    …………………..

    ” Rocky” was/is a good a name as any ?

Mrs Browns DUG was called ” SPARTACUS”….I did consider that name for Rocky when I got him as a tiny kitten….LOL ?

    HH.

Someone else asked ” How do you get a Urine Sample from a Cat” ?

Its very simple actually, and I will need to take another one later this week and hand in to the Vet.

You buy a ” Kit” from the Vet ( around £4.00). The ” Kit” is a Syringe and a packet of some sort of Crystals that you put in the litter tray ..after removing and cleaning any ” usual” litter out.

These ” Crystals” do NOT absorb any Urine like the usual litter would do, so you can clearly see the Urine.

Hold the Litter Tray at a small angle and allow the Urine to run into a corner of the Tray, and then simply use the Syringe to gather some Urine, and then apply the Urine into a Sample Bottle which is also part of the ” Kit”.

    Simples

    LOL.

  6. If I remember correctly wee Rocky as a very small Kitten, would LITERALLY put up a good fight when I first tried to get a Collar on him…

He was obviously a “Fighter” ! His first Vet advised me that he had a ” Murmer” in his wee heart….I just knew he would fight against that dis advantage…and I have been proved right.

I have tried it again a few years ago but he STILL wouldnt let me put a Collar on him and would pull it off in two minutes.

He was a great ” Hunter” bringing back Mice and Birds…Dead or Alive, to show me. Sadly in recent years Ive had to turn him into a House Cat due to moving home a few times and not being able to allow him out, as I havent had a garden since 2012.

I used to complain to my then Wife…” Why is Rocky allowed to bring Burds back to the hoose…and Im not” ?

    LOL

Big Jimmy,s tongue in cheek reply to one of the bhoys pretending Rocky wasn’t a dog certainly caught a few out on here. Well done big Jimmy I’m now picturing Jimmy trying to get a urine sample from a cat.HH

    ………..

Sorry PAPAJOESS, but Rocky is a CAT.

I never said what kind of animal he is…some Posters just assumed that he is a Dug, and to me it didnt matter as he is MY Pet/PAL who is going thru a very tough time right now with his poor health…and its also been rather upsetting for me also, but my Priority is to make sure the Rocky Bhoy isnt suffering.

NO deception was intended… I just allowed some Posters to assume whatever they wanted.

    No harm meant.

    ……………………….

Ive ( Hopefully ?) still got that Single in the hoose somewhere /

It was by the late great Matt McGinn.

The ” A” side is a fanastic Celtic song celebrating our win in Lisbon.

Its called… ” The Bhoys from Libson”.

The ” B” side is Matt also singing ” I’m Looking for a Job”.

I have sang BOTH Songs at Parties and travelling to and from Celtic games for many many years. My old mates would always coax me into singing ” The Bhoys from Lisbon” in particular whilst heading to celtic games.

The CHORUS…” We’re the Bhoys who shook up Lisbon, we should Inter some of our Tricks,

In the year of ’67…sure of Trophy number six,

Home and Away, we always paly a game thats neat an clean,

With a thousand Cheers for Celtic and their good old manager Stein”.

I know BOTH songs ..Off by Heart.

    Hope the above helps ?

    @Melbourne Mick

    I think I can help.

It was called “An Irishman’s Dream”

We got a copy from a record shop at the bottom of Sauchiehall St around the time that he Empire was being demolished. It was before we had a record player!

  13. US Presidential Election

Just looked at the bios of the two candidates as presented by the BBC website. Interestingly in Joe Biden’s bio it mentions that he is from an IRISH American CATHOLIC family but mentions nothing about Trump’s GERMAN/SCOTTISH American PROTESTANT background. Why do you think the BBC feel the need in 2020 to mention this? If he was the first CATHOLIC presidential candidate or possible President (Kennedy beat him to it 60 years ago!) then fair enough. While some on here are worried about what sort of independent Scotland there would be and worry that it would be ‘wan kultur’ as opposed to a multi faith (and none) multi ethnic/diverse country. It seems that the BBC both in London and possibly for some Americans this is a big deal. It seems at times that ethnicity or religion etc. matters nought except when you add Catholic and/or Irish!

  14. Big Jimmy

A laugh is always a good way to start a day and this provided one for me:

    `He could have been a hippo or a Snake`

Had you said , for example, `a hampster or a tortoise`, it would not have been so funny but your choices were perfect :-)))))

‘Why do you think the BBC feel the need in 2020 to mention this?’

    ###

    1. They are reflecting the candidates’ own presentaion of their ancestral heritage. Biden makes more of an issue of his than Trump does.

    2. They favour Biden over Trump. They don’t construe mentioning Biden’s Irish roots as a negative thing.

  22. Winninggemmell, you asked the other night about the gent who sold flags , hats on scarves on London Road along from the Real McCoy pub. He is originally from Drumchapel, I’m sure his name is Gordon. He was a few years older than me. I met him a few times years ago. Gordon started selling scarves at our games in his late teens if my memory serves me well.
