We’re going to miss Dave King when he’s gone

294

There may be some glib and shameless laughter if Dave King is forced to relinquish control of Newco by the court after his hearing, which takes place today and tomorrow. The Takeover Panel ruled that he led a Concert Party in the period leading up to his takeover of the club in March 2015. As a consequence, King was instructed to make an offer for the entire shareholding, which he failed to do. The simultaneous effects of ‘Cold Shouldering’ leaves the club hampered in their abilities to raise money.

None of this is welcome. I will be genuinely sorry if King is forced to relinquish control of Ibrox. His interference at the club, which started within days of Sevco 5088 being awarded the rights to buy Rangers assets by administrators Duff & Phelps, has been malignant.

Within a week of the Sevco 5088 offer being accepted, owner (disputed) Charles Green was asked to step aside. Green was quickly forced to abandon his projections, instead he had to over-promise what he could deliver, and sell cheap tickets in order to get fans, who wanted others to control the club, on board. Ever since Newco has haemorrhaged money.

It managed three promotions in four years, but now seems doomed to forever perform the role of hapless cash cow for the rest of the Premiership. They are good box office, add valuable income to the coffers of every club they visit, but are unable to generate enough money to break even.

The really puzzling aspect of King’s failure to make a share offer, following the Takeover Panel’s ruling, it that I’m sure it would probably cost buttons. If every shareholder took up the offer, there is a potential £11m bill, but surely few, if any, would exit at this stage, for 20p a share? I cannot see this being any more than an exercise of going through the motions.

Irrespective of the likely uptake of an offer, King would need to show the means to make good for the entire £11m, just in case, before proceeding. You or I could to through the motions of a meaningless £11m offer, but few of us could demonstrate the follow through. Perhaps King is in the same quandary.

I know we mock King’s pantomime PR and general ridiculous-ness, but he is perfect for the job of controlling Newco. For most people, for most clubs, this week’s shenanigans would be humiliating, but Dave and his cronies are made of stronger stuff. Hang in there, Dave, we will miss you when you are gone.capture-20171009-120341

  2. okay bhoys. is tontinetim about or maybe blantyre tim. i can name the lions team back to front but as a kid in the early sixties the team i remember at primary school was fallon young and gemmell clark mcneil and kennedy then a blank wall cant remember the forward line but wasnt ian young a good right back and jim kennedy a robust defender hail hail.

  3. Who will be Scotland manager reminds me of the old conundrum, some men marry the wives they deserve, whilst others deserve the wives they marry. Apply that to Scottish football and you see my drift.

  4. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Big Packy , Bobby Carroll ?

As obvious as Dave King being a liar, the media will not put any blame on the SFA for the terrible state football and the Scotland team are in.

The SFA high heid yins over the last twenty years are those who should be getting criticised and investigated.

I’m surprised the media have not campaigned to install McInnes as Scotland manager. Levein was being a pain in the posterior to the SFA and developing the Dundee Utd team when he their manager.

Levein gets the Scotland job, he’s no longer a nusiance to the SFA plus it weakens United .

McInnes leaving Pittodrie would weaken them thus helping the Ibrox club to get a higher league position.

    I’m paranoid about my paranoia

  5. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

McLeish is a lowlife , touting himself for the job while a long term personal friend was the Scotland manager.

He was interviewed the other night saying he would be willing to take the job if offered.

  6. GERRYBHOY-I’m always reading back so just seen your good news, welcome to wee Innes. It goes without saying you have just joined the best wee club ever Gerrybhoy.:-)))Enjoy you visit on Friday

you have semi professional clubs with votes, the Junior FA and the Womens FA, how is this ever going to produce the improvements that football need, it will need people from outside Scotland to do this but they wont be allowed as the media will then attack them as they are not Scottish or upset the establishment and we know what that means.

*we already have to comedians from south of the border ruining the game.

    Big Packy,

The forward line to that team, according to my old memory, was Johnstone, Murdoch, Chalmers, Divers, Hughes.

*just as the song says “Jim Johnstone, Murdoch, Chalmers, John Divers and John Hughes and 60,000 Celtic fans who proudly claim the news”.

Ian Young incidentally was a fine full back who replaced former captain Dunky MacKay in the side. It was his dumping willie johnston on the running track early doors in the LC Final which IMHO was the catalyst for our honest and untainted NIAR and the Big Cup.

  14. Plenty of yes-men available for the Scotland job. It’s McLeish’s if he wants it. With Barry save-me-from-the-taxman as his assistant.

Loving the court case today… the GSL’s defence seemed to be:

“I didn’t know what I was doing, and I don’t have any money now to obey the law, so, gonna let me aff? WATP.”

  16. If Sevco don’t finish a good second or fail to win a trophy this year then they are going to need something to get the huns to buy tickets next season… A new chairman claiming a massive warchest might be the solution… Fool my once shame on you… fool me twice shame on you… fool me a third time it’s the unseen Fenian hand..

  17. Scotland- We need a root and branch clear out.

We need to start to improve kids facilities and training.

We need to sell Hamdump and play Scotland games at the best venue for the expected crowd.

We need proper refs that let skillful players flourish on pitches that are designed for football.

  18. TT

Yes they are , doesn’t make the proceedure wrong just who they appointed, i wonder who sets out the vision for the future strategy or if they even have one , how are they are going to progress it. Iceland is a tiny country and is developing players for their country , playing overseas and now qualifying for the final stages of tournaments, different sport but Sweden produces a huge amount of European tour Golfers some really top guys, they can probably play there 6 months of the year, so coaching, facilities and cost will all be part of their development. Scotland calls itself the home of Golf and has got lazy with the label, outwith the top courses clubs are struggling, with no help from the SGU. Football in my opinion also did this many years ago and countries have pased us by, i am glad we have BR who seems to be a thinker and up to speed with modern ideas . I do think the SFA have failed totally and I’m not surprised as its jobs for the boys.Football will not improve here until it modernises and has a clear idea of what it wants and how to get there.

Just read someone posting Moyes wants the job…..

    Listen… Bhoys and Ghirls.

Any choob with a half ounce of sense could do that job.

Pick 6/7 from the Great Glasgow Celtic.

A couple from the Hibernians fron Leith.

    A couple from Aberdeen…

and any wild cards you want.

I’d do it for free and donate my gree gages to Mary’s Meals…. hardly rocket science.

    To summarise.

Pick the best inform players and you’ll get the best results.

    Here Ends the lesson.

    Oh I forgot to add….

    it’s open to all…

Suppose its opinions as to who the best players are… but they are all north of the border for sure….

  20. normanstreet49 on

Name me one non Celtic player in the Scotland line up the other night you’d bust a gut to get at Celtic Park????? Just one…. please….

  21. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Bada Bing, I used to have a grudging respect for McLeish but like a lot of people who were employed as a player or manager at Ibrox , they seem to lose any self awareness.
