Westminster MPs ready to accommodate Administrators

572

A group of Westminster MPs are set to accommodate administrators Rangers FC PLC in London tomorrow in the hope of using whatever influence they have to pull a deal together.  Political interference in distressed companies is not uncommon but on this occasion the risks of collateral damage are enormous.

Fifa strictly prohibits political interference in football matters and has banned national teams and their representative clubs from international competition for matters as trivial as politically motivated appointments, never mind overt political lobbying on behalf of a football club in tax delinquency.

Prime Minister, David Cameron, commented on Rangers situation last week, although unlike Scottish First Minister, Alex Salmond, he limited himself to a neutral comment, however, I hear that Treasury officials have already been lobbied to exert pressure on HM Revenue and Customs to agree to whatever necessary to prevent Rangers from suffering the consequences of not paying tax.

Ironically, it’s Celtic and the Scotland national team who are set to suffer.  Craig Levein hopes to take his Scotland team into the World Cup qualifying tournament in September while Neil Lennon will hope to give his Celtic team a chance to qualify for the Champions League.  Fifa would be delighted to take the British government and football associations down a notch or two after the accusations of bribery at the international body emanating from England when their bid to host the World Cup perished.

Duff and Phelps have nothing to lose from meeting the MPs but with so much at stake for Scotland, Celtic and our other European entrants next season, the Scottish and London politicians must rein-in their over political interference and the SFA must get off their backsides and remind everyone of Fifa rules.

I hear you. Back when we had some darks days at the end of last year I’ll admit I was beginning to wonder. We are on the verge of something if we keep going. Forget Castle greyskull, they’ll take care of themselves but we may well be about to embark on a beautiful journey again.

Everything comes back to what quality of football can be delivered for a football wage bill of £10mill pa?

Good youth set and a top wage of £5K per week would get you to £5mill pa.

Consequently would another £5mill spent on prospects like GH / BK / EI / VW / AS get you to the top of the SPL?

Could we beat that squad every season?

Could Hertz / Aberdeen aim for that level of T/O in a TFOD free SPL?

Any re-building of the TFOD would need to include Ticketus.

Pay them off and the basic business stacks up to repay £10mill pa.

Looking at a £30mill business as a floor.

Three way split – HMRC / Running costs / wages.

The alternative is a split – property deal for Ibrox and a lump sum payment to part pay off the HMRC and a deal with Ticketus.

    £5mill rent and £5millto HMRC?

Sorry if this question has been asked before

what if the huns agree a deal with creditors, and ticketus are still looking for the money that they are owed

as i understand it they have bought sections of season tickets for the next 3/4 years

what if the huns said right we will not buy season books, we will just pay at the gate

    where does that leave ticketus?

would they still be entitled to gate receipts

Dingwall was talkinig about the club meeting its corportae responsibilities and if Donuhue was not on the same song sheet The Treasury AND HMRC will quickly put him there.

Without informed estimates of the income of a strapped Rangers it is diffucult to know if an annual repayment rate that would satisfy the tax payer as a good deal could be arrived at but if Dundee Utd can put a competitiuve team out (that won the Scottish Cup) on around £4M then so can Rangers.

Say for arguments sake Rangers income was around £13M pa based on 25000 SBs at £450 plus TV deals etc (but no UEFA income) then after allowing £3M for wages and say £2M for other costs they could pay £8M a year to HMRC ovber 7 years.

The key to general public acceptance would be a strictly enforced wage ceiling on par with the likes of Dundee Utd and as hefty a repayment scheduke over as short a period as the business case would allow.

That is certainly the only basis on which The Treasury/HMRC would advise Ministers to play it.

Jabba did try to claim credit for the story

GS admitted ‘taking him (CW) at his word and giving him the benefit’

    programmes should have taken place

Why did Jabba et al not question CW’s bona fides?

Why are commentators punting the line that Murray left the club with almost no debt

and that the £83M spend was all Advocaat’s fault?

These programmes should have taken place 3 years ago.

Incidentally, were I an MP I would not have a lot to drink before going on the TV

I picked out Dundee Utd because they have played to a decent standard, sometimes above, sometimes below and at a wage bill much less than £10M.

There is no reason why a distressed Rangers should not follow that path. They’ll get used to it.

Some guy at HMRC Teasury will be charged with coming up with an annual repayment that is high enough over short enough time frame to sell the deal and set out the conditions on a wage ceiling and installation of a proper governing Board with HMRC representation on it as conditions to get such a deal passed if the estimated income can bear the repayment schedule and controlled wages.
