Westminster MPs ready to accommodate Administrators

572

A group of Westminster MPs are set to accommodate administrators Rangers FC PLC in London tomorrow in the hope of using whatever influence they have to pull a deal together.  Political interference in distressed companies is not uncommon but on this occasion the risks of collateral damage are enormous.

Fifa strictly prohibits political interference in football matters and has banned national teams and their representative clubs from international competition for matters as trivial as politically motivated appointments, never mind overt political lobbying on behalf of a football club in tax delinquency.

Prime Minister, David Cameron, commented on Rangers situation last week, although unlike Scottish First Minister, Alex Salmond, he limited himself to a neutral comment, however, I hear that Treasury officials have already been lobbied to exert pressure on HM Revenue and Customs to agree to whatever necessary to prevent Rangers from suffering the consequences of not paying tax.

Ironically, it’s Celtic and the Scotland national team who are set to suffer.  Craig Levein hopes to take his Scotland team into the World Cup qualifying tournament in September while Neil Lennon will hope to give his Celtic team a chance to qualify for the Champions League.  Fifa would be delighted to take the British government and football associations down a notch or two after the accusations of bribery at the international body emanating from England when their bid to host the World Cup perished.

Duff and Phelps have nothing to lose from meeting the MPs but with so much at stake for Scotland, Celtic and our other European entrants next season, the Scottish and London politicians must rein-in their over political interference and the SFA must get off their backsides and remind everyone of Fifa rules.

hear ye. But not hearin exactly how we’re gonna rape this EPL cash cow in a post blue nuclear winter……….

  2. Talk is cheap. As long as there is no action I would hope no Fifa embargo. I do dispair that after the performance of fans this weekend that they would be helped out of self created mire.

  3. And another thing Bary Obama’s foreign policy may only be marginally less brutal than his predecessor however his domestic approach of public works and increased welfare has actually got the american econemy moving again and has brought down unemployment, if people are working for the state that will create more wealth for the country which can then be used to create further jobs in the private sector and the prosperity circle continues. The unemployment is now lower than it was when he took office for all our sakes I hope he is reelected and not one of those country bumpkin freaks of the Repugnant party.

  4. Labour voters out there, we need to demand that Donohue is expelled. He’s lucky he dosen’t bump into the rank and file because they will not be happy with him. Please write a petiton to your local Labour Party Officials. If enough of us complain we can achieve something great. Donohue is a rat, an evil, evil man. A disgrace and embarrassment to my party. I would love to hear the views of the SSP on the rangers tax evasion btw, I doubt it would be sympathetic.

My logical side hears you, my heart tells me if you are right I am fecked.

Celtic were wrong not to support their support, or at least not criticise them in public.

All we are witnessing, all the information being gathered and exposed is not the result of anything the board have done, its all the result of the tenacious interweb researchers.

Not convinced there is not a link – in a good way.

The Green Brigade deserved better and I believe the board know that now.

We don’t have to a thing. Sky monitor all views/hits. Celtic are world wide box office attraction.

If Sky decide they want us in SPL = done deal.

  8. Ok a question whats the difference between avoidance and evasion of taxes? And are they not both equally disgusting? Read to day that people are setting up fake companies to avoid paying income tax…. DISGUSTING. I commend Barry Obama cracking down on that in the states the same should happen hear. And at the risk of becoming repetitive, please lets oust Donohue from the Labour Party, he is destroying my party’s chance of being elected at the next Scottish elections and also defends morals and ethics incompatible with equality for all men and of fairness which I believe my party is meant to stand for.

  11. Hmm thanks canamalar but I would have thought a so called Labour Politician defending acts of illegality (EBT’s and non payment of NI and PAYE) would shock most Labour Voters?

I am still confident of bumping into a rangers fan (but perhaps not in this decade) somewhere who is disgusted with the way their club have behaved in regards taxation and also choice of songs.

A man who wants no special favours and who puts his socialism before his clubs welfare, I know what I seek is perhaps a mythical creature but I have to think that there must be one rangers fan that actually does have a little “dignity” and a little less “loyalty”.

    Paddy G..,

The board know nothing of the sort, they dont care what the existing supporters say, what the hell do they care, for they only know that theres going to be a show and only glasgow Celtic will be there.

Therefore only one scottish corporate hospitality

true, he does speak very highly of them, made up to a knight for all his trouble eh.

I expect he might have preferred no being sectreted to safe houses in the middle of the night last season.

I expect he might have preferred being backed by the full force of corporate protection last season.

Neither happened, so I expect he’s just greateful he’s still living the dream of managing the team we love.

If you remember correctly the threats made against Neil Lennon’s life, when made public on this very blog last year was greeted by silence, whe that silence was questioned, the reply was, shusshsshshshshshhshshs

  20. Thanks Paddy G you are a good man. I must have wrote about 5 posts about him, because he really annoyed me and shocked me with his actions, I really thought that ALL labour politicians where people to look up to, now I know that at least one of them isn’t.

sftb when are you going to forgive me for being a bit daft in talking about a subject I knew nothing about in all actuality? Paul Pot was not a great guy at all, dosen’t discard the fact that america where the ones responsible for him being there in the first place and america where the ones who put the idea in his head to brutalize people (with Hiroshima).

I admit that all I said about Paul pot was absolute nonsense but just trying to point out that america gave him the keys by installing an evil dictator whom he ended up killing and then making the last bugger look like a relative moderate….

Incidentally how do you feel about Hiroshima? Looking back it should never have been allowed to happen, we should have won the war without resorting to mass murder of innocent civilians. Or mabye you think america was right in everything she does? It would explain a lot SFTB.

That is a very good point.

My take on it at the time was that it was being treated as a crime and therefor both Neil and Celtic preferred a no response policy.

I might be wrong but Neil appeared to put his trust in the board as to how it should be handled.

The board seemed to put their trust in the security services.

Both the board and Neil seem to be comfortable with that decision.

  25. Neil canamalar Lennon hunskelper extrordinaire on

This sobriety does not feel good, I’m getting even angrier

especially with the people who were suppose to be on our side.

Too often recenly, have I heard about what a good job the board are doing.

From where I’m sitting they’ve done nothing, a few platitudes seem to be enough to set this crowd into convulsions of ecstacy, they have already told us what they think of us, our honor is not good enough to defend. Old firm is as old firm does.

  26. Paddy – at this unGaudly hour – I squint rather than see.

However, for what my glass half full mind see’s is (overall in a fitba sense) regression.
