What did Juve learn from Celtic on Tuesday?

1080

On watching Celtic on Tuesday I wondered, ‘What will Juventus learn from this performance?’  Their scout will have left with a few notes.

Celtic can break quickly and effectively.  Both Hooper goals came as a result of moving the ball the length of the field, mostly on the deck, at pace.

Their threat from corner kicks was re-emphasised.  Charlie Mulgrew delivers the ball with sufficient pace to benefit from unpredictable movement, beyond the anticipated swerve.  This will be difficult for defenders, keeper and attackers to meet, but Celtic players clearly put a lot of work into practicing getting onto the end of these crosses.

Hopefully the scout will have learned nothing about how we will defend against Juventus as we were somewhat erratic early on against United and were not pressed thereafter.

Juventus are rightly favourites but this this is a thankless tie for them, especially when the first message delivered is ‘Don’t concede corners or free kicks in wide positions’.

They will also be alert to the dangers of being caught forward when Celtic can break effectively.  Celtic conceded through this mistake against Spartak last month but I wouldn’t expect us to leave as much empty space in defence at any point against Juventus.

My main worry about Celtic is over how much practice they are putting into penalty kicks….

  1. Awesome decision making by Andy.

Imagine what Victor will be like in 2 years. ;)

Neil Lennon is no liar, £25 Mill IS indeed the starting price. ;))

I remember his first game against Inter. WOW.

Tie John Park down that he isnae allowed to leave Celtic. ;)) And that he is allowed to give advice to Neil anytime he feels like, even in the future Champions League final that Celtic will contest. ;)

Coming to a critical part of this fame IMO. Federer has on many occasions been able to read the game so well and when he sees some doubt coming back into Murrays game then he just progresses through to quietly play his superb game. Obviously there is some doubt for Murray when he wins such a fantastic rally in that last game then loses the next two points. He is up against probably the most successful and coolest tennis player in the history of the game.

livibhoy, lamont tried to throw the ryder cup ‘jolly’ at salmond recently, on the back of that ‘jolly’ a number of large business deals occurred, most notably the deal with NBC to televise the Scottish .Open at Castle Stuart. This is the first US tv deal for a (non major/open) european tour event. Scunnered with this parochial attitude displayed by the likes of lamont and you that our first minister should not be attending international events and overseeing good business in the background.

Presumably to be replaced by one that will do what fat eck tells them.

There’s something rather intolerant and authoritarian about the SNP.

Intolerant, authoritarian nationalists. What could possibly go wrong.

“BBC Scotland travelled all the way to czech republic to interview some czech minister who was willing to say to camera that Scotland wouldnt automatically get into the EU, they suddenly stopped this push when Cameron came out with his EU referendum speech!! ”

Are you referring to a BBC Scotland radio interview with a Slovak Minister here?

If so I think you have traduced the sentiments expressed by said guy, who was scrupulously neutral on the issue of Scotland and Independence; he only outlined what the experience of the Velvet revolution was for Slovaks and he was incredibly positive about that. If anything, it was a piece in praise of independence.

I’m happy to take Lenny’s word on Andy Murray’s talent.

There is little separating him, Federer and Djokovic on any given day, but having beaten them both in major finals lately, Murray knows he has the tools.

Fed holds btw, 6-5 on serve, 2nd set.

I did not hear that one but, rest assured, there was a lengthy BBC radio morning piece from Slovakia, where this “Unionist” broadcasting corporation, produced a balanced piece thanks, mainly, to the political sensitivity of the Slovak politician interviewed, Nonetheless, BBC Scotland broadcast it and that needs to be factored into your evidence of contrary behaviour.

I have no time for Salmond. He didn’t cover himself in glory after the shame game and summit and then where did all those documents go with the stats regarding crimes against Catholics in Scotland?

The guy has no challenge in the Scottish parliament and is breezing through his tenure.

Sevo demand apology – Exclusive by Parlane Ferguson

Sevco owner Charles Green has threatened legal action against the BBC and accused the organization of “unrelenting bias” against the Ibrox club.

Green has made his comments two-days after a meeting with supporters groups over the proposed renaming of the club’s stadium.

Baffled by details regarding the club’s financial situation, fans started discussing possible options to take the club forward during the meeting with the no nonsense, straight-talking, colourful Sevco owner – the suggestions included marching Orange bands as half-time entertainment, forming links with a team on the Falkland Islands to tap into a conveyor belt of talent where the British flag still flies proudly, and demanding Dundee United are ejected from Scottish Football because they are unable to control their fans.

Amid the brain-storming session Green discovered the BBC had indulged in negative and selective reporting regarding his club last October when Sevco’s 1-0 defeat by Stirling Albion was announced live on air during the classified football results.

Green said: “It really beggars belief that the BBC can stoop to these levels. It’s almost like they are itching to relay any bad news about the club as quickly as possible. For a national broadcaster to announce our defeat at Stirling live on air, while at the same time failing to mention the 75,000 sell-out we had at Ibrox the week before, is just petty.

“I can confirm our lawyers are looking into this situation. This is nowt more than unrelenting bias towards our club and our wonderful fans – and how we managed to cram them all into one room for that meeting was a miracle, erm … I mean a wonder of science.”

H-NRG icon Divine Dingwall, who makes a living fleecing gullible Zombies, said: “This is just another example of people sticking the boot into the club while we are down.

“The Sevco Supporters Trust demands an apology from Artur Boruc.”

And Sevco media spokesman Jabba Traynor said: “We will not tolerate negativity from our enemies. It appears there is one rule for Celtic and one rule for everyone else.”

Brilliant stuff but I bet you wouldn’t see Federer needing to jump about like that.

Murray loses second set, through a very close tie break.
