What did Juve learn from Celtic on Tuesday?

1080

On watching Celtic on Tuesday I wondered, ‘What will Juventus learn from this performance?’  Their scout will have left with a few notes.

Celtic can break quickly and effectively.  Both Hooper goals came as a result of moving the ball the length of the field, mostly on the deck, at pace.

Their threat from corner kicks was re-emphasised.  Charlie Mulgrew delivers the ball with sufficient pace to benefit from unpredictable movement, beyond the anticipated swerve.  This will be difficult for defenders, keeper and attackers to meet, but Celtic players clearly put a lot of work into practicing getting onto the end of these crosses.

Hopefully the scout will have learned nothing about how we will defend against Juventus as we were somewhat erratic early on against United and were not pressed thereafter.

Juventus are rightly favourites but this this is a thankless tie for them, especially when the first message delivered is ‘Don’t concede corners or free kicks in wide positions’.

They will also be alert to the dangers of being caught forward when Celtic can break effectively.  Celtic conceded through this mistake against Spartak last month but I wouldn’t expect us to leave as much empty space in defence at any point against Juventus.

My main worry about Celtic is over how much practice they are putting into penalty kicks….

Ivan Lendl watching on from the stand looks so disinterested he might be in the queue at the passport office.

Bit of pressure on the Fed serve in the 1st game of the 2nd set, with a couple of duesces in amongst some terrific tennis. Sees it out though.

    Where’s the snaw !

Murray looking great, however as Fed has prfoven in the past he is able to recover from a poor start.

Andy Murray needs to really dig deep to keep a strong steely approach to Fed.

    C’mon the Hibee

  7. Oor Andy has morphed from a gangly lad over the last few years into a formidable specimen of a man.

Federer (at the tender age of 31) will not be able to deal with Murray’s all-round game, coached to the nth. degree by Lendl.

Anybody seen hide or hair of Alex samond since the Algerian hostages were taken, it’s amazing that oil slick disappears at the first hint of having to represent scots in a sensitive situation, suddenly it’s a British problem, suddenly the Scottish hostages need the British govt to represent them.

    Potential for bad news ?

  9. The thing about Federer is that he is so experienced in what he does, he oozes confidence because he is so good, he might look like he is not working as hard as his opponent, that is probably true because he is so precise with his controlling shots.

There is a new kid on the Block and he is from Scotland. Sheer determination and a bloody minded attitude has taken this young guy to the top of one of the hardest Sports to achieve in.

Celtic dinnae need to go anywhere else to achieve what we all want to achieve.

Now the vermin are deid, let us all build Celtic up and also Scottish Football as a whole.

When the Hierarchy realise that Celtic, as a collective, isn’t about money, we will do so many good things, off and also on the park.

    Fill the Stadium again!!!!

Capitalise on the big games, don’t look at Celtic supporters as customers.

I’ve always liked the way Kenny Shields has conducted himself, there is something of the maverick about him though and he strikes me as an honest man.

He could just blow the SFA and Dallas out of the water by publishing his video evidence but I suspect the SFA have tied him in to an agreement to not publish as part of yesterday’s lenient sentence.

  11. canamalar,

I loved the interview where Salmond was so concerned about the Scots involved. He then went on to say that some might have family in Scotland so that was a worry too. I was just waiting for him to claim a guy who came to Glasgow for a conference once as an honorary Scots victim.

Neil canamalar Lennon hunskelper extrordinaire – I have worked alongside many of Protestant Calvinists, and i have found the majority of them to be lazy b@stards.

The old “good”,Protestant,Calvinist work ethic is a myth…believe you me.

    You need to research

The values which belong to the Protestant Calvinistic work ethic are in Ferguson’s view those which underpinned both the British empire in the nineteenth century and America in the 20th century, indeed one of the episodes of his documentary he quotes statististics on protestant churches in America

  14. Mountain_Bhoy is Neil Lennon on

Neil canamalar Lennon hunskelper extrordinaire, I have seen Salmond talking about algeria and africa on the daytime scottish parliament show. Its quite obvious really, neither BBC scotland or STV do anything to promote the Yes campaign or indeed Salmond during peak times and programs, so they dont bother their erse showing his statements. I am absolutely scunnered with the blatant lack of impartiality being shown at the unionist bbc scotland.

BBC Scotland travelled all the way to czech republic to interview some czech minister who was willing to say to camera that Scotland wouldnt automatically get into the EU, they suddenly stopped this push when Cameron came out with his EU referendum speech!! they are rattled, the better together mob have no idea how to spin anything anymore.. so they basically just dont bother talking about it! shocking, BBC Scotland you are the first organisation to be broken up once we get independence!

  15. It seems we are interested in this wee striker..

Eliran Atar (born 17 February 1987) is an Israeli professional footballer currently playing for Maccabi Tel Aviv F.C..

On February 7, 2009, when playing for Bnei Yehuda, Atar scored from an overhead kick that was a candidate for the 2009 Puskás Award, though finishing fourth (i.e., the fourth most beautiful goal of that year).[1][2][3] He became the top scorer of the 2008–09 Israeli Premier League season with 14 goals.

On 23 May 2010 he moved to Maccabi Tel Aviv for $1.2 million and signed a four-year contract with the club.[4]

On 26 August 2010 he was selected to the Player Of The Match with 2 amazing goals on the win 4–3 on PSG in the Europa League. Atar completed his first season with Maccabi as club’s Top Goalscorer with 18 league goals and 22 overall (all competitions) season goals. He attracts interest from VfL Wolfsburg , 1. FC Nuremberg , Parma and Betis.
