What now from HMRC after New £9m tax delinquency

1073

Contrary to our earlier understanding, Rangers did not win a ruling from the Court of Session on who was to be appointed administrator, HMRC and Rangers came to agreement on the appointment of Duff and Phelps, who acted for Whyte during his takeover of the club.

The admission by Duff and Phelps that today’s court action by HM Revenue and Customs was in connection to circa £9m unpaid tax accrued since the takeover in May last year will come as a surprise no one in the Celtic Quick News community.  This is why Rangers are now in administration, it’s nothing to do with the big tax case, or indeed, the wee tax case.

Key question is, what will HMRC do now?  They’re not going away/. Rangers continued to sign football players despite being delinquent with taxes, and briefed journalists that they rejected a £9m offer for a player on 31 August 2011.

The fact that the business is in administration due to activity carried out under Craig Whyte’s tenure may also interest the Insolvency Service, who are already investigating Whyte’s takeover of the club following information passed by former chairman, Alastair Johnston.

One final push (this week) for the Vanessa Riddle Appeal. We have a Celtic top signed by the first team squad available to auction on eBay. You can bid on the auction and help send Vanessa for the treatment she needs by clicking here. Thanks to Penfold for the donation and to Taggsybhoy for organising (yet again).

  7. This coverage reminds me of the first few days after Dougiegate.

The genuine voice of Celtic is kept absent while the rest of Scottish fitba gets free voice.

Just as they got together to pin the narrative as “Lenny brings it on himself”, they are now desperate to fix the view that “Scottish Football needs the cheats”

Hope Paul can reverse the early impetus on 5Live

    On radio you might get away with saying something like;

    I scream-ed when I heard R@ngers still owed £1.2m for Jelly-vic.

Go on, you know you want to.

  10. Ok, not read back so I suspect this is old hat…

I think that because the HMRC are so huge a creditor they will, uniquely, have a veto over any pence in the pound that the hun’s administrator may wish to suggest. I also contend that HMRC reconise the significance of their position and are determined that the huns will pay up or shut up; a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for HMRC to impose its will on a club that has not taken its tax revenue seriously. Net result the huns are gonna be liquidated.

If that is accepted as a prediction we move to the possibilities that ensue post-liquidation. I believe the best case scenario (Celtic fan’s perspective) is the guns disappearing forever. This is, sadly, unlikely. The worst case scenario is that Rangers lose their entire history; no more stars on the shirt, and are catapulted straight back into the SPL (as Rangsrs 2012 or similar) and that this club (despite being brought by a sugar (hun) daddy, cannot compete in Europe for 3 years. The best case scenario is the unlikely one that ‘old’ Huns die and they are no more. This is unlikely. A newco should be expected. The issue at hand will be whether they willbecrequired to (re)start in div 3 or whether they will be catapulted back into the SPL. If that does happen then extra penalties could and likely would be added.

    Fight the newco catapult CSC

  11. I think we can safely say that CP on 22nd for Dunfermline game ( our first home game since the Valentine’s day massacre) will be a sell out. The party of all parties. So glad I have my seat.

  12. Hamilton Tim, I’m with you, flights booked, my mate has got 3 of us from the Emerald Isle a nice wee corporate deal and me a wee old Cardonald bhoy of old, happy days that it could be a title winning day

Not in Scotland BB, rat’s like Jabba and the rest of them will jump from the Gravy Train and try and re-invent themselves with mock outrage and unfounded facts and figures, they will hide behind any door as the wave of Celtic Success washes away any trace of credibility they ever had.

I for one cannot wait to see the dawn and revel in their demise.

Cultsbhoy, I also thought that way back in the day. In fact, I thought his scribblings at the time of Celts For Change were excellent.

Alas, his stock plummeted a long, long time ago.

Would love to know why Jabba the journalist could not tell us this since we have been reading this on RTC for some months now.
