What now from HMRC after New £9m tax delinquency

1073

Contrary to our earlier understanding, Rangers did not win a ruling from the Court of Session on who was to be appointed administrator, HMRC and Rangers came to agreement on the appointment of Duff and Phelps, who acted for Whyte during his takeover of the club.

The admission by Duff and Phelps that today’s court action by HM Revenue and Customs was in connection to circa £9m unpaid tax accrued since the takeover in May last year will come as a surprise no one in the Celtic Quick News community.  This is why Rangers are now in administration, it’s nothing to do with the big tax case, or indeed, the wee tax case.

Key question is, what will HMRC do now?  They’re not going away/. Rangers continued to sign football players despite being delinquent with taxes, and briefed journalists that they rejected a £9m offer for a player on 31 August 2011.

The fact that the business is in administration due to activity carried out under Craig Whyte’s tenure may also interest the Insolvency Service, who are already investigating Whyte’s takeover of the club following information passed by former chairman, Alastair Johnston.

One final push (this week) for the Vanessa Riddle Appeal. We have a Celtic top signed by the first team squad available to auction on eBay. You can bid on the auction and help send Vanessa for the treatment she needs by clicking here. Thanks to Penfold for the donation and to Taggsybhoy for organising (yet again).

    Might just be me..BUT

anybody else think this whole story is rapidly turning into ‘tomorrow’s chip paper’? I think there is a sense of paying lip service but ultimately an acceptance that the game is over.

Key to that is the absolute lack of credibility of both SDM and MBT…

I do feel a degree of sympathy for decent, ordinary Huns but I suspect they are so sickened that they won’t follow NEWCO huns when formed…these guys may seek another team. Unthinkable that I could choose another team other than Celtic but maybe if I had been lied to and taken for a ride in the way the Hun fans have – I would be so scunnered that I’d be unable to support a Celtic Newco….I mean, we support the team but a BIG part of it is the History, my da, my Granda, his da..etc. Would I feel the same attachment to a NewCo….? I don’t think so.

I can see this all just becoming ‘Accepted’ – quicker than maybe I imagined possible not so long ago..

    It now just feels INEVITABLE?

Is it possible that cw deliberately avoided paying the £9m to HMRC to ‘force’ administration BEFORE the gig bill is decided..?…..since, if liquidation follows quickly enough (for him) HMRC won’t have anyone to charge the bill to…?……just a thought

Anyway, no matter what, we can now concentrate on ‘enjoying’ supporting our team, devoid of the Old Firm ‘imposed’ tag……Hail Hail to all, on this most glorious day…

  7. Thanks guys. Much appreciated!

Paul67… im sure the lines were broken!!?? Apologies if not.

My 9 year old is football daft, Celtic daft and virtually the only Celtic supporter in his year at Cults Primary School – he always wears the Hoops whenever he can…He’s taking a great interest in Hun demise as i suspect he’s had a lot of ‘banter’ to contend with over the last 4 years…he’s very much one of the football kids..

Following on from my previous post – I wonder how much he’ll remember of RFC when he’s 18?

Traynor was feeble, he looked like he was trying to remember facts and opinions cribbed from RTC without consulting his notes.

Not sure mate. Celtic being successful is just magic but it’s costing me a fortune in ticket money right now :-)

    You and the brother going?

  14. Well done Paul. Keep fighting the good fight. Looking forward over the coming weeks for the truth to come out. Perhaps once the result of the tax case has come through a more forceful arguement can be presented to the mainstream press regarding tax evasion and the moral implications of this.

At last, my thoughts turn to Celtic, remember us? The only down side of this is a tainted first league

    win for Lennon.

He deserves to feel the elation all our league winning have felt when they win their first.

  20. Has Craig Whyte passed the SFA Unfit and Improper Persons Test yet? Not paying taxes since May was clearly seeking to gain an unfair advantage over the competition. Relegate them, then liquidate them.

    Chris

  21. on radio tonight, said that we need to play THREE qualifying rounds to enter in CL groups !

    i mean, sure, TAX etc

a difficult wee subject, TAX and that

but these folk are PAID to know and talk about Scottish fitba !!

and they don’t even realise that, for the premier club competition in our continent, we need to qualify via TWO rounds in order to get to the groups…..

the third-qualifying round and the play-off round

    i.e. TWO rounds !

    pathetic half-witts !!

Keevins, Speirs, and Sheelagh McLaren !

    sad !

    i mean, yes, EBT’s, CVA’s, SPA’s, etc

    a wee bit complicated

    but qualification for the CL

i mean, come on tae !!

    another disgrace !

  22. Bundoran

I’ll give it some thought and let you know then buddy if it’s going to be as good as you say :-)))

  23. Now that we are one step closer to the event, is it possible to get the SPL to state definitively what their procedure is for dealing with an application by a newco huns for entry to the SPL?
