What now from HMRC after New £9m tax delinquency

1073

Contrary to our earlier understanding, Rangers did not win a ruling from the Court of Session on who was to be appointed administrator, HMRC and Rangers came to agreement on the appointment of Duff and Phelps, who acted for Whyte during his takeover of the club.

The admission by Duff and Phelps that today’s court action by HM Revenue and Customs was in connection to circa £9m unpaid tax accrued since the takeover in May last year will come as a surprise no one in the Celtic Quick News community.  This is why Rangers are now in administration, it’s nothing to do with the big tax case, or indeed, the wee tax case.

Key question is, what will HMRC do now?  They’re not going away/. Rangers continued to sign football players despite being delinquent with taxes, and briefed journalists that they rejected a £9m offer for a player on 31 August 2011.

The fact that the business is in administration due to activity carried out under Craig Whyte’s tenure may also interest the Insolvency Service, who are already investigating Whyte’s takeover of the club following information passed by former chairman, Alastair Johnston.

One final push (this week) for the Vanessa Riddle Appeal. We have a Celtic top signed by the first team squad available to auction on eBay. You can bid on the auction and help send Vanessa for the treatment she needs by clicking here. Thanks to Penfold for the donation and to Taggsybhoy for organising (yet again).

You know that feeling you get when you wake in the morning and wonder why you feel so good and then remember we thumped rangers the day before?

You know that feeling you get when you’re leaning back on a chair and youre just about to fall over but you catch the table at the last minute to save yourself?

Well I feel like that ALL the time right now.

    A FANTASTIC POST

  2. ArdMacha,

I thought of pablophanque this last two days, among many others who would have appreciated these times all the more for having suffered so much (for me and those of my generation, the end days of the Kelly-White, the huns 9iar, the desperate days of Tommy Burns…).

I thought pablo might have played this (although he might not have wanted to associate Radiohead with the huns in any way…)

  3. Poor Philvis has been staying up too late the past couple of schoolnights, but I can’t help myself. I’ve been giggling like a fat kid who’s just won a lifetime’s supply of ice cream and jelly.

It must be incredibly painful to be a loyal bear just now, so much so I’ve almost been tempted to feel sorry for Rangers.

    Almost.

    But then I remember.

Remember things like the bombs, bullets, and death threats against Neil Lennon.

Their song, scarves, banners, and graffiti about Jock Stein.

    The Famine Song.

for reasons outlined above – I think any move to Div 3 is just prolonging the inevitable

Their honest, decent fans will not follow a NewCo…I think they’ve had enough.

Anyone who doubts this should ask themselves what did Thirdlanark Queenspark fans do when their clubs died? Presumably chucked football or found a new team at a different level.

Personally, If Celtic had done what the Huns have done and treated me like the Hun fans have been treated – I’d rather follow Highland league or a Junior Team than follow a diluted NewCo Celtic in the 3rd Divison..

    Doesn’t surprise me…

Not a popular thing to admit – but I was struck by the Hun on BBC News tonight outside who said something along the lines of

‘some of these guys are missing shifts to be here, some are still paying up season tickets and some need to tap folk to come here…and this is how they treat us?’

    I don’t see guys like him following a Newco…and I can understand why…

I have a very good friend whos dad was the principal mover for the Celtic View, and indeed became the Celtic Chairman for a difficult while.

His Uncle Peter , the chairmans older brother, was an old man, by the time I ever met him. But this ould scotstoun gentelman was great company anytime I was near him at any games.

Particular memory being us winning 3-2 at Pittodrie one time and he smoked his pipe all through the game.

I was told the story that the day the huns lost to hamilton in the Scottish cup, old Peter made his wat to Partick underground.

and as the subway loyal came up the escalator, he asked the question “whats the score for the gers today lads?”

    we got beat 1-0 mister.

no way that souness is an imposter thats a disgrace.

me and my pal shared a joke today.

old Peter is up there, at the gates of heaven, which has two escaltors one going up to heaven, and one going doon to hell ,

maybe with Pablo on the decks giving some tunes in the background.

as the huns are rolling up to go doon the doon ramp, old Peter says

“hey lads, how did the tax case go today ?”

well i found it funny anyways for all the tims in heaven, or wherever they thought they might go.

yesterday I was a lover not a fighter

    to-day I am a ranter not a Ranker

Really disappointed in BBC S Newsnights Gordon the highlander, no mention of the immoral approach that the Huns have taken to all of this business.

The BBC progress to being a weak and ineffective bunch of sycophants on their flagship Scottish intellectual news programme.

For Gordone Brewer to allow himself to be bullied by the alfa alfa male Traynor is an embarrassment. I am totally disgusted with the BBC, who, two nights ago were strong and forthright in condemning Rangers for the loss to the economy of 40 to 50 £M, condemning them as shysters and low life criminals, who would make sure that their granny and orphaned daughter was alright but cast the needy of humanity to the swirling waters beyond the River Stycks.

Why oh why, do the otherwise intelligent people of Scotland, who pride themselves in being upright and true, put up with such shallow condemnation of a NATIONAL scandal. Rangers are all the worst of an old and inward looking society that needs to grow up. Its really easy follow the advice that is 2000 years old.

“for reasons outlined above – I think any move to Div 3 is just prolonging the inevitable”

    Not my problem Jack!

Fk them. Let them do what they like, as long as it isn;t attacking us – which is a big concern for me in the short-term btw.

If they go to Div 3 and on merit work their way back to the SPL, I could live with that.

If they lose some of their support along the way, good.

If some of their support break off in an FC United (or more likely, given the fans and playing style, Wimbledon AFC), good for them. Divide and ignore.

If they en masse jump out the windows, well I hope it’s multi-storeys…spiky railings (greenspiky railings)

I feel kind of scared stating it as fact, but there is no way back for them now. I think we still need to be vigilant to prevent any immediate readmittance to the SPL, but I think that scenario may not arise; it won’t (can’t?) if they’re liquidated, which is looking all bar inevitable.

We have videophones in my office and for the past couple of days I’ve been trying – in vain – to reach some of my poor benighted colleagues in Scotland for a little face-to-face chat. I hope they are still alive and well.

It’s like the best Christmas ever, all the better for being in the unexpected month of February.

And I never thought the Christmas I got a ZX Spectrum +2 would be surpassed. (thumbsup)

  16. When they won their tainted trophies their vile songs were the same.

Don’t feel sorry for any of them, they never tried to change their rancid club.

Not one protest did the “decent fans” make.

  17. To me they’re like the KKK without the pointy pillow cases.

Would you settle for the huns being embarrassingly and infuriatingly gash for 25 years, living in the shadow of their successful, rich, and fashionable neighbours; getting an occasional memorable derby win, and then maybe winning the league in 2037 (for the first time since 2011 [if their titles weren’t stripped])?

My point isn’t that I feel sympathy for any Hun fans – my point is that I don’t think they will follow (follow) Rangers Newco…therefore if Liquidation occurs it is over forever

  22. TAL, thanks for that, nearly70% think we can do without the,m, I am sure we can improve on that.. hail hail

  23. Just watching that link to Craig Whyte on Rangers TV

The po-faced announcer says ” Administration is a frightening word. Now we can hear from a spokesman from the company responsible for this situation

And, instead of David Murray or Craig Whyte appearing, we get Paul Clark from Duff & Phelps.

  26. It’s funny they love their supposed “superiority” yet it is that “superiority” that has doomed them. If only they had listened to the numerous warnings they were given. But alas it was all a fantasy of Celtic supporters, it was never going to happen and administration was a dream for some.
