What price Dundee game in US?

459

What price an SPFL game against Celtic in America? £2m? More? You can’t blame Dundee for being enterprising but I can’t see this initiative happening.

Celtic are the Great Gravy Train of Scottish football. We defy the status of our league to reach European Nirvana, which enriches us but also pays a healthy dividend to our supportive (cough) domestic competitors. The Caravan of Celtic arrives once or twice a year at each location, bringing paying fans and TV cameras. Therein lies the business model of many Scottish football clubs.

This is fair enough, but there are limits beyond which it’s inappropriate to spread the Gravy.

Don’t think I’m being sentimental here. Dundee can play their home games wherever they like as far as I’m concerned. They can move them to the US, in fact, if they convince the residents of Dingwall to do likewise, I’d have no problem with the ideal. Just so long as it’s consistent with a significant growth strategy for Celtic. The odd £1m here or there isn’t worth it for us otherwise.

  2. Evening

First off to Kitalba- I hope for the best. Your post last night fair stopped me in my tracks.

To Aw Naw- Happy Birthday and keep the scoops coming.

Welcome to Celtic Kouassi Eboue- hopefully a star in the making and not a project

As for Kiernan’s ‘Not Proven’ I have to admit to being bemused at this. I am not always a subscriber to the conspiracy theory that the SFA et al are ridiculously biased in favour of the clubs which have played out of Ibrox but this just seems plain wrong. As others have pointed out that Tonev was found guilty two years ago when no solid evidence was produced whereas in this instance there actually is clear visible evidence that an assault was committed- this is not one man’s word against an other’s as was the case two years ago.

    Have a good evening.

IF Trump gets Alzheimers the IQ of the presidency will go up.

Not amusing; Alzheimers Disease isn’t something to joke about. If in doubt, ask any family member of someone suffering from it.

*Fully concur here, as much as I have no time for the trumpet and make it known I have had a few family members who suffered from both Alzheimer’s and Dementia, also the B move Hollywood actor was twice, no make that a hunner times, the man than the misogynist is.

The response to a listener, who on hearing a story feels that they must interject with a similar comment, or an inference that they are also subjected to a similar environmental variable. Usually this will be more intense the original commentator. The meaning originates from the Punch and Judy shows which have their root in 16th-century Italian commedia dell’arte. The reference being that without the responder, the show cannot go on.

  23. Bada Bing, when was the last time you saw kids playing football on a street or on a bit of grass with jumpers as posts? It is sad but just doesn’t happen much. It seems they play when it’s organised but not so much just out on the street.

    It is sad.

  24. Doc – nearly every school has an astroturf pitch, they lie empty every night and all summer.Pretty sure Councils have put lots of guys through SFA badges, get them out there training kids, not difficult to try and fix some issues.HH

How you doing? I hope you had a nice holiday.

Sorry for not responding earlier …. sometimes, this work stuff gets in the way.

I had seen the Alzheimer’s stuff previously …. but, more recently, there was at least one study that showed significant and immediate cognitive impairment after a game …. the numbers were shocking (something like a 50% memory loss! Although they stated that the effects seemed to be short lived, one has to think that if you are doing something that causes that kind of cognitive impairment, there are bound to be long term, cumulative effects ….

scary to think about the stuff we did as a kid!

Re Alzeimhers , my 80 year old brother suffering from vascular Dementia long term memory quite good at the moment but he can’t remember what he had to eat today or who visited him. He was Scottish international middleweight boxer in early sixties, and also a very good centre forward , heading the lace up leather balls you wonder if this had some contribution to his current condition. He once scored two goals in a friendly against a young Celtic team in the early sixties , the team included John Cushley and one of the Brogans (Frank I think ) it finished in a 3-3 draw with one of my other brothers also scored , sorry for the vague recollection as I was only 6 when the game was played.
