What we are up against and why we cannot submit

245

It is not making a murderous gesture that is the greatest affront; it is the normalisation of it by opinion makers and influencers.  We are asked to believe that it is acceptable for our footballers to make a throat cutting gesture when leaving the field.  It is not, never has been, and at no time in Scottish football’s often disreputable history has there ever been such a low point.

There have always been some low-life footballers and there most probably always will be.  They are worth our pity as well as our condemnation.  Trying to normalise the despicable is new.

I don’t believe any of those who are defending murderous gestures honestly want to live in a society where this is the norm.  What they want, is to stop Celtic winning nine-in-a-row, and they are prepared to subvert every ethical value to achieve this.

This is what we are up against – and why we cannot submit.

In my view told porkies about the Club Sevco, dragging Celtic fans into the ones spreading this, in his words untruth

    So calling Celtic fans liars

I do accept this, and our board who gave said nothing, other than a quip by PL at an AGM

Which in turn brings me to Paul67 comment

    Fans do not Submit

Is that unlike our board Paul, why do you expect the fans to be different from the board

    Oh yes, we care

  2. Just for clarity

It is AJ claiming only Celtic fans claim Sevco are a new club, therefor telling porkies

Could this not be proven by challenging AJ no Surrender directly in court ???

  3. Norriem.

That was the bit that irked me, that he only mentioned Celtic fans.

Hearts fans, view from Gorgie, have already said on Twitter, what about us A.J. It’s not just Celtic fans that think you are a new club and they are correct.

  4. Norriem

I think he mentioned fans of other Clubs as well.

Regardless, he is talking nonsense but I don`t think he is doing anything illegal.

Incidentally, have any of you golfers on here ever walked off the course and thought: That was as good as I can play.

  5. Sorry, it was not AJ who mentioned other fans; it was just this bit from the relevant article that made me think that

If sevco claim to be the same club , produce their exit from administration certificate as Hearts fan Matt Leslie tells sevs on Twitter when he tells them they are a new club. He has told them over the past few years if they produce an exit from administration certificate he will stop calling them a new club.

Tonight Matt has retweeted a tweet from Tom English and I quote Rangers pay a handsome retainer to a person who previously wrote “ Rangers FC as we know them are dead. It’s all over”.

Jimmynotpaul, I dislike the the way the majority of the Hearts behave toward us but there are Hearts fans , as Auldheid has previously pointed out from the Scottish Football Monitor , who similar to us us , want the truth told about the first Ibrox club and the current one.

  13. BROGAN ROGAN TREVINO AND HOGAN on

    Good Evening All,

And a Happy New Year to you.

I am sorry but all this bollocks about racism, Morelos, etc etc is all just bullshit and spin which distracts from the real matter in hand.

So let me recap quickly on what we should really be focusing on.

Here we are at the start of a new year having just been beaten at home by our nearest title challengers.

Those challengers strengthened their pool with ridiculous numbers of players, and ridiculous wages, just so that they could be better than everyone else in the league (bar Celtic) and so that they could cope with suspensions and injuries without being seriously affected.

Just like the EBT years only legitimate — or at least more legitimate.

With regard to Celtic, the challengers could only hope for a couple of good results and for Celtic to slip up somewhere – which we did against Livingstone.

If the honours are even between Celtic and Rangers in terms of league games, and we slip up and they don’t – then Rangers are champions, there will be no 9 in a row, and the celebrations down Ibrox way will be gargantuan.

And there will be no one to blame but Celtic themselves.

At the start of this season we started with an unprecedented amount of cash in the bank.

We were going for the Champion’s league but failed to strengthen the spine of the team to the necessary standard (certainly before the qualifier with Cluj) and we paid the consequences.

Our rate of progression in CL qualifiers is nowhere near the 3 out of 5 ratio that used to be our target and we are losing out in the mini league that is the CL qualifiers to clubs who we should be able to beat and who have far smaller resources.

However, European progression is not the issue here although that progression, or the real desire to progress as far as we can, is a useful guide and barometer to the current malaise within the business thinking within the club.

At the start of the season, when discussing the domestic season to come, I was told that Peter Lawwell (no less) posed this question:

“Never mind 10 in a row — imagine there was no 9 in a row?”

Those in charge at Celtic Park have been aware from the very start of the season that those at Ibrox would go hell for leather to stop Celtic reaching 9 in a row — even if that lead to a further insolvency of an Ibrox based club.

They knew that there was a real challenge coming and that it would not be too difficult for RFC to be able to beat the rest and so get closer to Celtic.

This being so, it was incumbent upon the board to have a recruitment policy in place which saw the team strengthen as best it could to withstand that challenge and to prepare for Europe.

Yet I am told that certain transfer negotiations were conducted with some players on the basis of “we will sign you if we qualify for the Champions League” rather than signing the same player to so qualify.

One of the targets was a “battering ram” centre forward in the £15 Million bracket as well as a play maker who would be a cut above what we have at the minute.

As well as some young players who we could bring on, we were going to bring in players who would command a first team place right away.

That has not happened and we have apparently downgraded the intended level of investment in the centre forward department.

There is a real sense of failing to prepare as we enter this window as things are no longer in our hands when in fact they should have been.

Let me give you an example or two.

First, there is a report this evening that Man Utd want Odsonne Edouard in this window.

Now, I doubt that will happen but Man U are rich enough to offer some kind of eye watering deal to take the player at the start of next season which Celtic might be keen to accept.

The player would prefer to go to PSG however, and so might not be keen.

Irrespective of whether any of this does or does not happen, could such discussions upset the player, distract him from his game etc etc?

And if it does, do Celtic have a back up striker of equal ability and reliability?

    The answer is no.

Next, some say that Celtic tend to stretch their legs and open up a gap after Christmas. Well , have a look at the fixture list and tell me who has the easier run of games over the next 12 weeks?

    The answer isn’t Celtic.

Each leg of a race has to be managed and in this phase of the season we do not have the inside lane.

Accordingly, if we are to put on the afterburners and fire on all cylinders then we need to refresh and strengthen our squad in a fashion that we have not done in previous winter windows.

We have cash in the bank, and in the past we were told that we would not risk insolvency by spending too much money, which I agree with.

However, there is no risk of insolvency but there is a risk of succumbing to a larger but less talented Ibrox side who are reasonably well managed on the field at least.

With our available resources we should be a club that is out of sight, but the resources are kept in the bank and not on the substitutes bench and that is no way to give yourself the best chance to win a football league.

Part of the art of management in any business is to manage risk, and one of the ways to manage risk is to anticipate future risk and potential risk.

In my opinion, Celtic have not accurately assessed the risk coming from Ibrox, nor acted appropriately to counter their management strategy.

In certain seasons, such as this one and possibly next year, it be necessary to spend more than you otherwise would achieve specific landmark business targets.

However, if you don’t do that, if you don’t take control of the situation and run the race to your own greatest strengths, then you risk defeat.

Forget all talk of the money being kept for a hotel or whatever (anyone who knows how you finance an hotel knows the landowner never does that) as that is nonsense.

If the Celtic board do not use their cash and liquidity assets to put the best possible team on the park with a view to achieving landmark results then they will have betrayed ordinary shareholders, a massive customer and fan base, and they will have damaged the reputation of Celtic football Club in the eyes of their own fans.

One of the Key Management Indicators of any management team is how successfully they utilise their asset base.

To my knowledge, a large bank balance has never scored a goal or won any competitive sporting competition.

Of Course, the board are to be congratulated in relation to the domestic success achieved in recent seasons, and the improvement in the financial fortunes of the club overall. However, each year brings new challenges, and the club starts from a new financial base at the start of each term.

Last seasons results are of no help this season and the current task for the board is the management of the here and now.

The here and now is immediate, is upon us, and demands our attention.

The Ibrox club will push on if at all possible.

The question is will we, and to what extent?

The answer should be that we will to the extent that we extinguish, or mitigate as far as possible, all risk.

    Everything else is secondary.

  25. A few thoughts…

I’m lucky enough to live overseas and as such can easily avoid almost every anti-Celtic headline, story, and mud-slinging rumour. However, there is no doubt we are in the middle of a dirty propaganda media war and getting trampled all over by our city rivals, and their ugly media darlings.

Celtic’s board need to grow a set… and fast!

As a first off, I’d ban the repeat media offenders from Celtic Park, preferably sine die. The filth at the Daily Record would be the first to go, and I’d make a significant example of them.

All media communications should be available for free to Celtic fans worldwide via Celtic TV, with Celtic FC controlling the questions asked (and answered).

Almost every open press conference sees agenda-laden questions from the Hun media to our manager and/or younger and foreign players. Answers invariably get twisted out of context and presented with as negative a spin as possible on the club and the players.

Secondly, I’d ban the 800 neanderthals from our stadium immediately.

We don’t need them and their filthy songbook. They need us way more than we need them… ditch them immediately, and tell the world exactly why we’re banning them.

Thirdly, call out the Huns on financial doping… formal complaints to SFA; SPL; and UEFA.
