What your money did

1537

In recent weeks hundreds of you have contributed to our Mary’s Meals project to build a school kitchen in Malawi for the 1221 pupils who are enrolled at the Kholoni Primary School in Mchinii, and then for the 746 pupils at St Joseph’s Primary in Kasungu.

The £7000 required for the first school reached Mary’s Meals some weeks ago and the building was opened and serving meals yesterday.

Here it is:

We have a lot to do today but there is an excellent chance that the £7000 required for St Joseph’s will be raised and in Mary’s Meals account before 470 of us sit down in the Kerrydale Suite for the CQteN St Patrick’s Day dinner tonight.

Here’s what you’ve done.  You have funded two facilities which between them will feed 1967 children, all of whom live below the UN measure of absolute poverty, in the 17th poorest country in the world.

Most days, for almost all children, this will be their main meal, it will often be their only meal.  As a result, they will attend school in greater numbers, 30% greater, if they are an average Mary’s Meals, Malawi, school.  They will gain a better education and have better opportunities in life.  They will build stronger bodies, more able to resist infection.  Child mortality will fall.

The spirit of Brother Walfrid, of Celtic, is alive within you.  You can get involved here.

See you at the party!

Seville, The Celtic Movement, launches tonight.

“CNN reported that on the day before the game 3% of the earth’s flying population were all headed for Seville and were sporting a Celtic scarf – a statistic that no sector of industry could ignore and which would change the policy of many airlines as a result.”

Feet fine but can’t say same about head. Voice lost (a bit too late some might say) but old and new friends found.

Honour and a privilege to be in the company of so many brilliant people and Celtic legends.

Speechless (literally!) at the great good we do as a family with Celtic in our hearts.

Now where did I leave my head ….

  3. Not met Sannabhoy yet but he sounds a good ‘un and I respect what he has done for the weans.

    Look forward to the footage.

    Catch U soon bud, hopefully.

  4. Good morning friends from a grey, drizzly and rather desolate looking East Kilbride.

What an absolutely fantastic night last night at CQteN. Special company around my own table – EC67, DBBIA and BSR you are wonderful human beings – and great to meet so many great Celtic men, old faces and new, during my long mingling session!

    More than just a blog.

Good morning CQN. As Frankie Valli would say ” Oh what a night”.

A big thanks to Lennybhoy for organising the table for me and Mrs P, whom I must apologise for as she actually cheered Kris’s ‘goal’ being disallowed due to her having predicted the correct time and goalscorer for the last goal, until he popped up again with the third.

It was good meeting CQN’rs old and new and in no particular order:

Lennybhoy, MurdochAuldandHay, Leftclick, Sannabhoy, Mouldy67, DBBIA, Tully57, JimTim, HT, BT, Cowiebhoy, Doc, Richie, PFayr, Minx1888 and TheToken Tim to name but a few, the head is still cloudy, also OldTim I hope you feel better soon.

I also managed to have a brief word with wee Oscar’s dad as I was leaving, a special couple with a very special son.

A special thanks to HT for helping me down the stairs, not due to the drink may I add, and also (outside) to the younger members of the CQN family who were determined that I should get the next Taxi when it came, speaks volumes about their upbringing and a credit to their parents!

  6. Such a good night. Thanks to all who made it happen. It was a great family/friendly atmosphere. I spoke with Archie McPherson and he was very complementary towards Celtic fans saying there was a marked difference in our fans compared to the huns (he said rangers fans) that we are outgoing and inclusive.

Big thanks to all at table 9 real characters and gentlemen, two lovely ladies as well.

  7. What a great night at CQteN. Big thanks to everyone involved on putting such a tremendous event together. Over 400 CQN posters, lurkers and long suffering partners in one room – no wonder the debates went on long into the night.

I talked to so many people I know well, those I’ve met at past events and so any others. As always it was great to put some more faces to blog names and to share a story or two. What an amazing bunch of people.

And as always a great sum was raised for a very worthy cause. I don’t know if anyone has ever added up all of the sums raised from the various events and campaigns over the years of CQN – it’s definitely a six figure sum.

  8. Embramike

Glad you made it home. After walking all that way we get a taxi at Glasgow cross and the driver didn’t know where he was going because it was his first night. We should have just walked. Me and Fi dropped off our sombreros and wen out to revolution for another couple as if we needed them.

Got to agree with you re the charitable side of the Celtic fans everyone I spoke to last night was a gem.

My raffle prize of 2 x Full Scottish Breakfasts before every Celtic home game next season @ Tiffanys is still out there. WC is going to arrange something.

Good meeting you and bazzabhoy last night good company the pair of you. Have you still got your beanie hat as well as the sombrero?

  13. It was such a good night at CQteN that I’d almost forgotten there was a game on too.

Kris Commons gets the headlines for his hat trick, but I thought young Liam Henderson made an outstanding debut. Calm and composed, he kept it simple most of the time, but also showed he has a good range of passing. The bhoy has a bright future.

Too many friends met and too high points last night but the fact that the total number off pupils being fed at the two marys meals school kitchens funded by CQN is 1967 was just fantastic.

    Morning all,

Can I just say a big BIG thankyou to all who came and said hello last night.

I am sorry I only managed a few words here and there and over the course of the coming days I will mention a few of the comments and points made and the people I spoke to.

It is a real source of regret that I didn’t get longer to chat and on another occasion I am going to make sure I get a chance to be in the body of the Kirk so that I can talk and listen.

There are so many that I never got the chance to speak to at all — some of whom I have never met but want to.

Anyway two things to say just now.

Vmhan — editor@cqnmagazine.com — I heard all that you said last night and I agree that story needs telling and repeating. Pleasure speaking to you and your son.

El Diego Boy — Can I make an observation. Those two lovely young woman in your family are just a knockout! There is a really great bond between you all and it speaks volumes that they are happy to come to an event like last night with their dad — and put up with the Tour de Force that is Malorbhoy. I hope they enjoyed themselves.

Sipsini — Nice chatting to you about my cousin George who I don’t see often enough. He is a lovely lovely man — if you see Thomas on Monday say hello from me.

CQN is packed to the brim with really good good people who I want to get to know better.

Winning Captains is forever saying I am a people person — well I am a big BIG fan of many of the people I met last night and I will get a night out with Paddybhoy88, and another with the Battered Bunnet, and a lunch or something with PF Ayr, and God knows who else.

Anyway I hope everyone enjoyed it and came away with an idea of what we can do as a group. It was very very clear from speaking to Chris and Connie Riddle ( Vanessa’s parents ) and Stephen and Leona Knox ( Oscar’s mum and Dad ) just how much we can change someone’s life by showing a little kindness and doing things the Walfrid way — the Celtic way — the CQN way.

We can make a difference here at home and in Malawi and elsewhere.

That is something to make you feel proud.

  21. Kilmarnock announces deal to clear its £9M debt:

“The deal which has been agreed with the club’s bankers, Bank of Scotland, includes three key steps:

. The arm’s length sale of The Park Hotel for full market value with the proceeds going towards reducing the club’s debt with the bank

    · Billy Bowie purchasing the balance of the bank’s debt and turning this debt into equity in the club, resulting in the chairman’s 87% stake being reduced to below 50% – so no single investor has a controlling interest in the club

    · The permanent write off by former Chairman Jamie Moffat of the balance of his loans to the Club, which originally totalled £1.8m.”

    Sevcomedians turn puce:

    “This makes me sick.

    Corrupt to the core.”

    ——

” Are the bank not getting paid?”

    ——

“Here’s more proof of the hatred against us. .All we asked was a level playing field. ”

    ——

“A club [company Sammy…company] that goes into admin and pays back a % of debt gets punished.

A club that walks away from every penny it owes then gets congratulated?”

    ——

“Corruption in Scottish football is rife. Every finger points back to the SFA.”

    ——

“Financial doping. Run up a debt that you can’t pay back then bail on it.

    Sound familiar?

    Only we didn’t bail”

    ——

“All I can say is it makes me sick. Considering we only owed the taxman 9million and we’ve paid off most of the other debt even though we had no legal obligation too, how much did we really end up not paying? Less than 20mil I’d guess.”

    ——

“I will believe anything is possible in Scottish football now. Why are we still entertaining the Scottish leagues with our presence?”

  25. Thoughts about the Killie game.

Liam Henderson looks really like the real deal .

Efe shows that our strong defense is not all about VVD.

Chris Commons was our least effective player until out of the blue he hits a hat-trick.

Baldie an unused sub -again ,while big flop Boerigter who has shown nothing in the hoops comes on -again. Not fair.
