Re my earlier post on Clydebank and the related bombing of Dresden — The raids on Dresden on 13th and 14th February 1945 is and was one of the most barbaric acts I have ever heard of.
The war was almost over, The Nazi’s were on the retreat on all front and the common perception is that the bombing served no military purpose whatsoever.
Officially, 25,000 people died — some say more.
The city was largely wooden and essentially countless thousand literally burned to death.
Maybe, it is because of my Clydebank background (and indeed my father’s Clydebank background ) but mention of the Dresden bombing in our house was always met with sheer outrage and anger at such a shameful and disgraceful act.
It was so outrageous and disgusting that even Winston Churchill ( a man for whom I have little time ) distanced himself from the whole escapade.
Right back to CQ10 stuff.
Sorry — remember Clydebank.
