When an asset becomes a daunting liability

1665

With Ukio Bankas bankrupt there is an acceptance that Hearts, who owe the bank in the region of £15m, will go into administration shortly after the end of the season.  This might not be the case.

Hearts major problem is their major asset, Tynecastle Stadium, which occupies a valuable patch of land in Edinburgh.  If administrators acting on behalf of Ukio have free access to the stadium they may shut it and look to recoup their loans by selling the land.  There is a possibility Hearts could be a football club without a stadium, but that does not necessarily mean they will go into administration.  Without a stadium to use the club would be liquidated but there is a possibility they would be able ground-share.

Hearts tested the land value before the property crash and received an offer of £22m from a house builder.

Alternatively the bank’s administrators could use their considerable influence over how the club is managed to sell their shares or come to some other arrangement (Ticketus, anyone?). When the major creditor has this much control of the company without administration, going through the formal process could actually harm their chances of getting their money back.

    Absolutely hilarious situation….

  2. Morning all.

Beautiful day here on the ole Italian Riviera.

Giro d’Italia starts today in Naples – if anyone is interested!

BMCUW – safe journey. Hope you don’t end up sitting next to ‘John Candy!’

    HH!!

  3. The penny drops for Sherlock McCoist………

ALLY MCCOIST last night admitted he doesn’t believe the £10million transfer windfall Charles Green promised him at Ibrox actually exists.

The chief executive who made that pledge has now gone – and the Rangers manager thinks the promise went with him.

McCoist soon expects to announce pre-contract signings – and Queen of the South striker Nicky Clark could be among them.

But he doesn’t think he will be given a fortune to spend in the transfer market when the club’s embargo is lifted in September.

McCoist said: “Maybe I’m turning into an old cynic but I’m not sure that £10 million is there.

“It’s terrible how football does this to you but I was promised all sorts of money to spend when I took this job and now I’ve been promised money to spend again.

“I will ask the question but I would imagine the budget won’t involve the 10 million.”

But McCoist does want money to provide job security in a results-driven business – after a leaked blueprint revealed he was targeted for the axe before Green’s departure.

He said: “I have to spend to get out of whichever division we’re in and keep me, Ian Durrant and Kenny McDowall – as well as the rest of the staff – in a job.

“If we don’t then we won’t be in work.”

It’s dry in G72. Things are looking up or they will be when Mrs BT gets up to make me a coffee.

  5. Sally really is a moron.

Did he seriously believe there was 10 million to spend to get the Tribute Act out of Division 2?

And that he’d be given it given his record so far?

Spiers is a mind reader, who would have thought it. From today’s Herald.

‘But the fact remains – and please take it as fact – that Lennon is frequently thinking over his future, as well he might, and as is his perfect right.’

The other day he was saying the “majority” of fans were missing the Old Firm (sic) game as 6,000 (some majority!) had turned up to the youth final.

The Scottish game must be in pretty good shape if that’s the sort of money the clubs in that league are spending!

  13. Morning all. Beautiful cold day here in North Ayrshire.

I take it the rags are full of thon deid team must be part of the SPL 2. Surely, we and Aberdeen will deny that faint possibility? Mind you, the rags may be waking up to the fact that they are for the scrap heap again shortly.

    Not just Aldershot, Newport too:

County, in their original incarnation, were relegated from the Football League in 1988 and liquidation a year later led to the formation of Newport AFC.

Now Newport County’s honorary president, Hando recalls how a new club rose from the ashes and began a journey which they hope will culminate in a return to the Football League.

“We were all firm, loyal supporters of the old Newport County even though it was up and down. But it finally went out of existence. We’d lost our club,” Hando said.

He missed out the bit where the FA begged them to go into the Premier League (for the good of the game), but they turned down the opportunity as they wanted to abide by fair play!

These Enlglish league teams just don’t seem to understand the concept of holding companies!

  15. If we win the cup I’d send Billy McNeill up to collect it alone, just like Lisbon. That would give them an image to remember.

  21. ASonofDan,

While I am happy to hear of Platini’s concern for that blatant foul being missed, surely he should have had something to say about Juventus’ gropings in the penalty box at Celtic Park. For every official to miss their behaviour once might be explicable but at every corner??? No, Platini is as corrupt as the rest of them, imo. UEFA have certain teams they want to win at any cost, just like the SFA.

  24. Italiabhoy @8.05,

Keep telling it like it is. Our manager, like MON before him, is their worst nightmare. If he is not allowed to lead the team out for the Final or cannot be among the team to receive the trophy, if we win, then no Celtic player should cooperate with the SFA in any way whatsoever and the media, like SKY, should be informed of exactly why.
