When playing for your livelihood counts for more

180

After the rest of the world has enjoyed a two-week international football break, Scotland gets back to real business tonight when Celtic visit Kilmarnock. A win would see the champions move level with their three nearest challengers on 12 games played, but 13 points clear of second placed Aberdeen.

Brendan Rodgers will welcome the Friday night kick-off as it allows for extra recovery time before the visit of Barcelona on Wednesday, so Kilmarnock can expect to face a full strength team.

The contrast between our earlier games this season against Kilmarnock and Barcelona could not be more stark. Killie looked like the worst team we’ve faced this season (Red Imps included) when they lost six at Celtic Park, while Barcelona blew us away at the Camp Nou.

My expectation for Celtic on Wednesday is that we will see a react to that painful defeat. I don’t know if we have enough in our tank to repeat our previous recent wins against Barca, but we should be vastly more solid in all areas of the park.

Kilmarnock will have similar feelings about tonight. They have lost only six goals in their last five games, so can legitimately tell each other they are a much improved team. They are also nip-and-tuck with Inverness, Partick, Hamilton, Motherwell, Dundee and Ross County, all of whom are within three points of bottom of the table or a top six spot.

In other words, unlike Celtic, who are playing with the incentive to increase their already daunting advantage, Kilmarnock are playing for their livelihoods, a scenario which should never be underestimated.

Just to get you in the mood

Our beloved team, our ancient ground,

Has been rebuilt, a club reborn.

With a four leaf clover on my breast,

And the things he brought will long remain,

A phoenix rising, a house of steel,

    And 60,000 Celtic dreams.

The work is done and the stage is set,

The Celtic dream can now be met,

In a sea of dreams, we’re here today,

`… but, I dont keep my clients in the dark, `

I agree. The recently set up Q & A with JPT is meant to address the problem of a lack of communication between the Plc and supporters and to throw some light on matters such as those raised by your good self.

VFR, I’m officially rubbish at gambling so if my dobbin does by some miracle win one of your races, please donate said winnings to MM or another of your choice.

Might stick a tenner on Celtic to beat Barca next week, it worked for me in 2012, not so much in our games v them since:_(

I see Waggy Waghorn had to endure the level of abuse that Neil Lennon got on the streets of Glasgow.

  5. A very heart felt congrats to JJ and Phil.

Great work also from The Clump, your day will come young man.

Looking in Hun media, the best they came up with was that JJ has now been ” outed” ??????

They then did their usual stuff about Jakey Celts, unwashed Celts, Thick Micks ( I’ve never met one ), having a go at JJ suit.

It’s always the same, when morons have no argument against what other people say or write etc, then it’s just the typical playground name calling ! If such a thing exists as an intelligent , level headed, Sevco fan, even they must cringe with embarrassment whenever his fellow fans of ” them” open their mouths of take to a keyboard ?

I have known very decent oldco fans in my life who have been very good friends , and I know that they completely disassociate themselves from the racist, bigot and moronic element if their support. Don’t get me wrong, those same oldco friends will attempt to indulge in friendly banter over a beer if they beat Celtic ?

That’s what it is, friendly banter . The way it should be but alas…….

It does provide me with some comic moments if course, especially when I too find myself indulging in some playground banter like,

    ” Can you see a handsome Hun ” ?

” We don’t care what the animals say”……..( they really hate that wan) !

Killie ( the only home team on the planet who indulge in time wasting when getting gubbed 4-0 v Celtic) – 0 v The Champions- 3.

COYBIG…….sorry COYBIp ? Help maboab. I can’t even bring myself to type a Capital p for you know what !

I must see my doc, I’m suffering from possible pinkophobia !

    I blame the SFA.

Hearing that, due to injuries that they picked up on international duty, Chelsea could be without Costa and Hazard for this weekend’s game ….. all of a sudden I’m feeling less confident about my LMS pick …. :(

Hot Smoked … I salute your indefatigability ….I have lost all faith in this Board … but, if your endeavour proves me wrong, there will be no one more happy than me.

  7. thomthethim for Oscar OK on

    Big Jimmy,

We have all come across “decent” Oldco supporters, who disassociate themselves from the mindless bigots of their club.

However, how come those same chaps couldn’t disassociate themselves from the mindless bigotry of their club ?

I could never get my head around that conundrum.

  8. mike in toronto on

also hearing that, having left LA, Robbie Keane may be making a return to Celtic …..

just joking …. we haven’t had a good Robbie Keane rumor in a while, and I was kind of missing them…

    :)

    The Board can’t win.

As well as trying to keep shareholders happy, their priority is to the paying customers.

As far as fixtures are concerned, the clamour for tickets and packed stands at both Hampden and Celtic Park, would more than suggest that the paying public are desperate to attend games versus them.

I have posted, ad nauseum, of Celtic’s only honourable course of action, re the SFA/Sevco fiasco, was either to shut up shop or move to another league. Neither really feasible.

    BC or DC.

This was ignored by many, refuted by none.

  10. THOMTHETHIM,

The decent oldco friends I speak of have no interest whatsoever in the orange disorder, masonic disorders , public disorder ( Manchester, toilets etc, etc).

They also distance themselves from all violent behaviour that their fellow fans resort to. I know from experience that some of my oldco friends over the years don’t and would not hesitate to give me ” honners”, if and when required against their scum support !

CIYBIp….oh no Ive defo got a case of pinkophobia…nurse the screens !

  11. Have a feeling we’re going to give the ole 3-5-2 another airing tonight. Especially as our only recognised left back, Izzy, can’t be that long back from Honduras.

  12. Oh my God! Celtic are playing again tonight. I’m counting the minutes to kick-off. I hate these bloomin’ International breaks (enjoyed the Republic gubbing Austria though!). It seems to bring out the worst in many of us on the blog. Withdrawal symptoms? I hope our Bhoys play well tonight and rack up another three points.

Hail! Hail! to everyone and I hope you all enjoy your Friday evening – and the rest of the weekend.

  13. See this pink Jersey ? Don’t get me wrong if or when do the business against any team whikst wearing that strip I won’t give a toss. I’ll be jumping aboot in celebration even though we’ll have 10 ” dale winton lookalikes” on the pitch !

I take it Craig won’t be wearing pink ?

I really must have this pinkophobia seen too asap ?

Maybe 3 or 4 Celtic goals tonight will cure me instantly ?

    Three points will cure me…..mibbies.

  14. Res 12, your crap Sevco signings, your racism and bigotry, your moronic rantings from both your club and support, there’s only wan thing to say,

” We don’t care what the animals say, ” !

    COYBI……..p

See I’ve still goat it, it’s getting worse and worserer

3 points tonight and I might just decide that I’m colour blind.

    Big Jimmy,

You never addressed this part of my post. The Conundrum.

“However, how come those same chaps couldn’t disassociate themselves from the mindless bigotry of their club ?”

    PS.

I am not personalising this towards your buddies.

We can carry on our discussion another time … for now, I have to run to a meeting, and you guys have a game to enjoy.

    BJ

I guess it does look like I am personalising my point.

Actually, I’m referring to ALL those “good” Sevco men, who tut tut at their morons, but by their support, endorse what that evil organisation stood for.

Can’t get my head round that one at all.

  18. Plastic park tonight is a big disadvantage for us, it also appears very slippy,3pts would be very welcome without any injuries.

  19. ‘Good’ huns who said they only supported their football team were two-faced. In my experience from years in Clydebank pubs they held their ‘we are the people’ attitude and were members of the lodge and marched on July 12. But they were not bigotted in any way.
