When playing for your livelihood counts for more

180

After the rest of the world has enjoyed a two-week international football break, Scotland gets back to real business tonight when Celtic visit Kilmarnock. A win would see the champions move level with their three nearest challengers on 12 games played, but 13 points clear of second placed Aberdeen.

Brendan Rodgers will welcome the Friday night kick-off as it allows for extra recovery time before the visit of Barcelona on Wednesday, so Kilmarnock can expect to face a full strength team.

The contrast between our earlier games this season against Kilmarnock and Barcelona could not be more stark. Killie looked like the worst team we’ve faced this season (Red Imps included) when they lost six at Celtic Park, while Barcelona blew us away at the Camp Nou.

My expectation for Celtic on Wednesday is that we will see a react to that painful defeat. I don’t know if we have enough in our tank to repeat our previous recent wins against Barca, but we should be vastly more solid in all areas of the park.

Kilmarnock will have similar feelings about tonight. They have lost only six goals in their last five games, so can legitimately tell each other they are a much improved team. They are also nip-and-tuck with Inverness, Partick, Hamilton, Motherwell, Dundee and Ross County, all of whom are within three points of bottom of the table or a top six spot.

In other words, unlike Celtic, who are playing with the incentive to increase their already daunting advantage, Kilmarnock are playing for their livelihoods, a scenario which should never be underestimated.

What’s that wae his heid ? What’s that all about, he canny keep it still, looking to the floor or the side at something that ain’t there !

Like you I was glad to see the back of him but had it been done on a dishonesty basis he would not be in a positon at UEFA to promote Scottish referees and it would have sent out the message dishonesty doesn’t pay.

The parallel with Regan is the same. Outing him without changing the process means

    dishonesty not tackled.

If it’s not tackled what is to stop more with Celtic on the receiving end?

The post was actually directed to KEVJ, however, I don’t disagree that the best way to have gotten rid of Dougie Douigie and Dallas would have been to sack both of them immediately. However, I didn’t see that happening, mores the pity!

  12. Based on the league table on BBC, Celtic would actually go 14 points clear tonight. 34 points from 12 games with Aberdeen having 21 from 12.

This would mean that Celtic have 62% more points than the next best team at this stage.

    How you lads doing today?

I tend to side with Auld on this one ….. Celtic should be naming and shaming …. Dallas … Reagan … etc…. it does seem like when the baddies are caught, they are quietly moved up without any real consequence….

If, as VFR suggests, Celtic may be have been working behind doors on some of these things to secure a result … (i) the results haven’t been very good, and (ii) to the degree that Celtic has accomplished some things in this sphere, their silence on many matters undoes whatever good work they might have done .and the good will they may have bullt up with the fans …

As was said in the Sussex case (admittedly, very different circumstances, but I think the principle still applies) ‘It is not enough for justice to be done, it must be seen to be done’

If CelticPLC are, in fact, standing up for the club and the fans (which I doubt, but if that were the case), (why) shouldn’t the fans know that?

Time for the Board to stop treating supporters like mushrooms….

Hope you are doing well on Black Friday; like you, I won’t catch the game tonight as I am doing my MC at the Race Night. I will record it, do my level best to avoid the score, and then watch it (con Amaraone) when I get home.

These assumptions are based purely on my own speculation – no inside knowledge.

It all just seemed to convenient and coincidental at the time. The whole scenario at that time was one where the SFA couldn’t come out of it with any good grace and I felt at the time Dougie Dougie and Dallas were the succulentsacrificial lambs.

Both being sacked for the debacle at Tanandice was the best option but I never saw that happening Craven was sacrificed for that.

  19. SETTING FREE THE BEARS FOR RES. 12 & OSCAR KNOX on 18TH NOVEMBER 2016 8:58 AM

Part of our opposition to OBaF has been around letting people offend and be offended. We cannot legislate that away without losing valued freedoms.

Now, singing about being “up to your knees in blood”- that’s a different level of banter altogether.

*hmmmm interesting slant, what about the child abuse chants that I mentioned yesterday, this is weans we’re talking about and yet they look upon it as point scoring.

This type of abuse has been going on for years whenever and wherever adults and weans mix. I coach minor soccer and have to have police clearance including being finger printed in order to do so as do other adults coaching minors in baseball, hockey, lacrosse etc., even crossing guards do as well, and quite right tae as this is taken highly serious over here.

I mentioned Crewe Alex who have had an excellent youth system for years yesterday, over here we have an ongoing case where an employee of a major sporting organisation has been charged with numerous such like offences, he even had his own ring of creeps, they are not alone either and some former players including at least one star have come forward to say their lives have been tainted and in some cases ruined by this type of assault.

Around 20 year ago the first victim to come forward actually took his own life at the shame he carried while his perpetrators got off with meagre sentences, this however became the catalyst for tougher laws and Canada is now in the forefront of child abuse investigations.

The beast was found guilty and sentenced but more victims keep coming forward hence the continuing court cases.

But nowhere, nowhere I repeat do fans of opposing teams chant slogans like “The former owner knew” or “you’re just a bunch of jimmy s’s”.

And yet not is all lost in Scotland as I read about a beast in my local paper who got done for offences committed 40+ year ago, he’s now an OAP but so what he is now supping porridge, the effer lived roon the corner fae me when I was growing up tae.

But still no one dares to take to task a horrible support who think its funny tae raise this subject even when the game is broadcast tae millions worldwide, mibbees it’s because it’s against a club with Irish Catholic ties.

Where’s yer shame SMSM, SFA and Sevco, do you have none.

The POPPY – an absolute annual godsend for the Scottish chip-wrappers and their on-line counter parts.

There are a number of very serious issues (that are by no means recent…) regarding Old RFC, the SFA and UEFA that are beginning to rumble – and stink – very loudly.

Distractions like the POPPY and the “international” Scottish set-up are a godsend (let’s face it Scotland are crap no matter who’s in charge – the SFA and SDM seen to that…).

Auldheid and others, really good posts about Dallas and his dismissal from his SFA position.

It still amazes me six years on that Dallas knew what happened on the Sunday night of the Dougie Dougie game but lied through his teeth about it the following night.

When Steven Craven broke ranks, I can not recall any of our media demanding Dallas be sacked for his and Dougiec Dougie’s dishonesty.

Steven Craven suffered because he told the truth and and I would not be surprised Dallas still has influence unfortunately
