When the wealthy borrow from the poor

1829

Sell fans a ticket, you owe them a game of football.  Whether the standard or result it good or bad, it’s a relatively easy commitment to keep.  That’s what fans get in return for spending money on a ticket.

Sell people shares, you owe them a share certificate.  That’s what shareholders get in return for coughing up for shares.

Borrow money from fans and you owe them much more than a game of football or a share certificate.  In many instances that money will have come from people who had to forgo things to provide you with the loan.  You owe them a duty of care that their loan will be repaid, or converted with their agreement.

It beggars belief that an unsecured loan has been offered to Rangers International by fans group, Rangers First.  If, as claimed, the obligations to Sports Direct have been met, the club will have both the ability and the incentive to pass the securities previously held by Sports Direct to the fans group.  The club’s IP, training ground and ancillary assets should now be unencumbered, who better to have security over these critical parts of the club than a fans group?

Unless, of course, the obligations to Sports Direct have not been met.  Or someone else has their eye on the assets.

The claim that Dave King would match Rangers First’s loan took me by surprise.  This was counter to everything I knew and expected of him.  His swift denial was more consistent with expectations.

There is an axiom in football: Any club who has enriched a PR individual to the tune of £500k in the last year is making a serious attempt to divert it’s fans attention.  Celtic’s PR machine deals with the efficient communication of football information and financial reports.  Nothing whatsoever is spend attempting to lead the news agenda.  This often leaves us on the receiving end of that agenda, but we have nothing to hide.  Which is the way it should be.

Few sights in business or football can be more alarming than when purportedly wealthy people borrow money from poorer people.  The warning signs are writ as tall as the Ibrox stands.  This time there is no hidden Ticketus deal people can claim they didn’t know about.

Still enjoying my birthday buddy and will start work late 2morra since I have no intention to stop drinking :-)

  2. Getting dragged in here as I have no idea why my favourite supermarket, Lidl, is being chastised.

For chastisement , I would suggest we get Sky and their OF agenda at the top of the list, they spent the best part of 4 hours flogging a dead horse. I only watche our part , for the last hour on Sky Sports News the Orcs game has been very prominent, why? Oh, hang on , I know why…coming soon the OF cup clash…wait and see.

What a sorry lot, speaking of sorry lots I see our brave flare throwers were in place today. Can anyone tell me what this does to help our team?e

I really enjoy what the GB bring to the game, I am a big fan. However whoever is involved in this petulance and acts of wannabe ultra support can go and fuck off to Germany , Italy or wherever this is seen as a good thing. Please excuse my swearing, I just cannot see what point they are trying to make?

If they are part of the GB then I will be pretty disappointed, as a supporters group the GB are first class. As a political activist society they are pretty poor.

As for the performance today, fairly happy. Everything went to plan and to my eyes McGregor was easily better than the diminishing Commons, Carlton Cole still looks like a seriously limited footballer. As for the Sky coverage, plus ca change….Tanner an odious little shit and poor Stubbs trapped between Tanner and the wee nyaff McC who looked uncomfortable adjusting his strides after getting all excited at watching his heroes.

    Hail! Hail!

Sorry for the late reply, was dining. Good news re a fine, I presume it is only EUFA that can fine us for that. Hope you’re well, as well as the rest of the family, of course. Indeed, a good, professional performance today. Really enjoyed the whole spectacle. Take care kiddo and hopefully, 2016 will be massive for you and yours. Incidentally, we have a lake (seriously) surrounding the cottage. Not flooded yet, but, thankfully, the rain appears to have eased. The issue now, melting snow and plenty of it. Country life is fantastic, well, attention getting at best. Lol. HH

Once again Sky reporting of sectarian singing from Twitter of all places. So glad Ihave dumped the movies and sports package with the rest to follow in April. Since the demise of the Rxxxxxs they are an utter disgrace as a balanced Scottish football reporting media outlet and I will be glad to see the back of them.

  7. I think the SKY pushing the OF nonsense is all about money: what will come to them in having us play the deid team. They see it as a right little earner. I wouldn’t be surprised if they have been quietly putting money the way of the team that plays out of Govan, hoping to benefit Murdoch in the long term. I don’t think it is because of the bias of the likes of Tanner, McCann and White. They are employed precisely because they say what SKY sees as their biggest demographic wants to hear. Much the same as the SMSM. It’s all a question of money, to them. You won’t see any questions raised on SKY about the deid team’s liquidation and the like. Too much money involved- for them.

  8. Good result Celtic, Leigh Griff fair bangin them in. Disappointed to hear that a few wee neds in the away support are not accountable. Will be mana from heaven for the establishment as they manipulate an ipox away trip for us next round. Bad as each other getting a sound airing to make sure the hordes song book will be ignored. Treble still on, mon the hoops. Hail Hail.

I agree the witching hour approaches for Scottish football, but have my doubts there will be any collective club group response.

Celtic supporters will be left to figure it out for themselves.

5th Round of Scottish Cup is played weekend of 6th Feb, so any new signings would be eligible plus our suspended players and any returning from injury (Boyata, Christie etc).

Brian Laudrup, Gary Anderson to make fifth round draw

Ex-Rangers, Bayern Munich, AC Milan and Chelsea star Brian Laudrup and William Hill World Darts champion Gary Anderson will help make the William Hill Scottish Cup fifth round draw on Monday evening (11th Jan) at Hampden Park.

Scottish FA President Alan McRae will conduct the draw which starts at 6.15pm and is live on Sky Sports News and Clyde 1 Superscoreboard.

  16. Pogmathonyahun aka Laird of the Smiles on

Just to add some spice to the SC draw it will take place from a Lidl bag that was found at today’s game in Stranraer. This will apparently make all the balls feel hot and sticky.

“the full IRA repertoire belted out” at the game today”

So the LIDL incident was a dirty protest?

Anyway – the reporter has it all wrong – 90 minutes is never enough time for the full repertoire. For example, they missed Fenian Record Player…

    :-))

  18. When the speculate to accumulate brigade get going, Boardroom responds along line of we must do our best to protect shareholders’ interest.

Wonder how they will twist that one if it all pans out that shareholders were unlawfully deprived of millions.

    Ah! Well! But you see.

    BSR,

Fans will ultimately make up their individual minds and the acid test will be ST sales.

However, when groups go into the business of making joint statements, who decides when and on which subjects to issue those statements?

Individual clubs have less room to manoeuvre than unrestricted ,cash spending, ST buying supporters.

    Cash is king (not Dave).

***Fat Bhoys Slim 2016 update ***

So with 18 fatbhoys and 1 fatghirl already weighed in, we are ready to go. Already we have a wee sneaky weight loss already of 13 ibs for the early starters and are just waiting for the last minute stragglers.

Currently our combined weight is heavier than an average male giraffe. With the 19 on board so far, our target loss by cup final day is to lose 470 lbs, which is equivalent to 2 average fatbhoys
