Why Hearts should buy Ibrox

943

Vladimir Romanov has grown bored of his Hearts experiment as an investment of tens of millions of pounds failed to change the side from mid-table strugglers into a team capable of something Motherwell seem able to do on significantly less.

Romanov wanted to transform Hearts into the biggest club in Scotland but failed to address the structural limitations of the club.  While Hearts may be the biggest team in Edinburgh, Edinburgh is a net exporter of football fans, Tynecastle is squeezed into a cramped corner of the city and provides very little opportunity to harvest corporate income, and, in case you haven’t noticed, there were two well-established competitors in a larger, net-import city with ample corporate income opportunities.

Various Hearts boards have looked to relocate the club or extend facilities at Tynecastle without much headway being made.  A bid of £22m was received from a house builder for the stadium some years ago but without a viable alternative the deal stalled.

A viable alternative could come onto the market soon.

If Rangers go out of business Romanov is in a unique position to take advantage.  Craig Whyte holds a floating charge on Ibrox and Murray Park but any bid in excess of his liability, which would be considerably less than the value of the properties, which have a book value of £139m, would secure both pieces of real estate.

Hearts could sell Tynecastle and Hearts training ground, raising enough funds to considerably offset what they would need to pay to secure Ibrox, if not provide a surplus, and establish foothold in the Glasgow market to complement their historical Edinburgh fan base.  One club would have a pull on a huge proportion of Scotland’s two largest cities.

At a stroke Romanov would ensure his club were for all time, at the very least, the second largest team in Scotland, and, eventually, could push Celtic for top spot.

It would be a ballsy move, but if you want to create a super-club you need to think a little creatively.

McCoist comments about having a fly kick and looking up at the performer is interesting and brings back memories

Back in 1998 my title winning celebrations for us were somewhat spolied when i got attacked waiting for a taxi home by some huns. I recall saying ” kick away ya bazza’s because we won the league” whilst fending off the size 10’s until i was saved by some kind woman

Thanks. Is it a given that Wallace should go back to Hearts -or can he like the others sign for whoever?

  4. Poor old Sone Aluko. Released tomorrow and he still has 3 payments outstanding to Aberdeen on his own transfer fee.

If that wasn’t bad enough, he’s been hit with a bill for his own severance pay.

  6. Important update to the Hurl Burley campaign.

According to http://www.live-footballontv.com/ I can see only one game Sat 7th Apr Kilmarnock V Celtic of any consequence so there is little excuse for not chucking ESPN now, but complain anyway.

I have a reasonably successful stream link to cover the game which I won’t post but will make available on request.

I make no apologies for reposting this link again and again whilst thanking the increasing number of supporters who are taking a few minutes to support Lenny who was as angry as I’ve seen him in an interview yesterday due to this fud Burley

Well done, was encouraging complaints and cancellations during the night shift last night, need to keep this rolling.

The media need to realise the tide’s turning, Burley needs sorting.

Also, has there been some sort of controvery surrounding James Forrest’s brilliant article ridiculing McCoist? Has it been pulled? Surely not. What was the problem?

McLean was trying to get Fenlon to agree it shouldnt have been a penalty to Minis but Fenlon was like “Goian isnt even facing the ball and wrestles with minis player, deffo penalty according to him”

Loved it made me chuckle, almost as good as huns cheering McGregors save to almost immediately fall silent when Hearts score the rebound

  12. hamiltontim,

McClean was asking if the off the field stuff is affecting players, he said that takes away from the good play by the opposition.

He was then trying to get him to say that hearts pen was harsh on the huns, stonewaller says Pat.

More from McClean, asking if huns were harshly done at the elbows pen claim, no penalty says Pat, hearts player pushed other hearts player into elbows.

McClean had that proper beeling face on :0

Good to see you back. Missed your humour.

I was speaking to a players agent last week in Belfast and he says that they are free to sign for another club immediately. Agents will look at the Rangers situation as an “opportunity to do a bit of business”.

I too am astonished at the Rangers supporters arrogance. As Forrest said the other night, they are the main reason for their club’s demise. You really have to wonder what this arrogance is founded on. I would suggest it only manifests itself in the football arena but having said that, it could also be down to the fact that they do hold priveleged positions throughout Scottish society, whether it be by Masonic or nepotistic means. One thing that is certain, their arrogance is false, based on no virtues other than being transfused with this ‘superiority complex’ I always talk about.

For me, its mostly noticeable in a football. RFC, whether we like it or not, are THE iconic symbol of Protestantism in this country, and by extension THE highest profile establishment. How else can any organisation get away with a blatant sectarian policy for over 100 years, directly in the face of almost 1 million Roman Catholics, with full backing of Government and Football governing bodies.

When you consider decades of refereeing decisions which favoured the ‘establishment club’, not to mention SFA conspiracies (latest ones to come out soon), its understandable that this arrogance has been bred into them, and became a dangerous complacency. They saw themselves as having a divine right to lord it over Celtic, calling us paranoid as the standard get out of jail card. Funny how we have’nt heard that word for a while.

As far as I’m concerned, Arrogance is the rock the huns are just about to perish on.

  24. there was absolutely nothing WRONG with James Forrest’s post, taken in the correct way it was a laugh, who but an idiot would find it upsetting, ohhh wait a minute it might just might have upset the large number of lurking ORCS who read this web blog, so feckin what would some one tell me this,

  26. the true measure of a boss is how they react when times are tough, not when things are hunky dory.

“‘coisty” not wanting to tell players they are being let go isn’t in keeping with the role he is supposed to play.

Head in sand from the man in the most important position in the club.

However, I don’t suppose the tabloids will be lining up to give him a kicking over this. Perhaps the tabloids will probably as Lenny if he thinks Sally is right not to be directly involved and then give Lenny a kicking for answering the question.

Perhaps the administrators should question whether he is actually worth the money he is taking from the club.
