Why Hearts should buy Ibrox

943

Vladimir Romanov has grown bored of his Hearts experiment as an investment of tens of millions of pounds failed to change the side from mid-table strugglers into a team capable of something Motherwell seem able to do on significantly less.

Romanov wanted to transform Hearts into the biggest club in Scotland but failed to address the structural limitations of the club.  While Hearts may be the biggest team in Edinburgh, Edinburgh is a net exporter of football fans, Tynecastle is squeezed into a cramped corner of the city and provides very little opportunity to harvest corporate income, and, in case you haven’t noticed, there were two well-established competitors in a larger, net-import city with ample corporate income opportunities.

Various Hearts boards have looked to relocate the club or extend facilities at Tynecastle without much headway being made.  A bid of £22m was received from a house builder for the stadium some years ago but without a viable alternative the deal stalled.

A viable alternative could come onto the market soon.

If Rangers go out of business Romanov is in a unique position to take advantage.  Craig Whyte holds a floating charge on Ibrox and Murray Park but any bid in excess of his liability, which would be considerably less than the value of the properties, which have a book value of £139m, would secure both pieces of real estate.

Hearts could sell Tynecastle and Hearts training ground, raising enough funds to considerably offset what they would need to pay to secure Ibrox, if not provide a surplus, and establish foothold in the Glasgow market to complement their historical Edinburgh fan base.  One club would have a pull on a huge proportion of Scotland’s two largest cities.

At a stroke Romanov would ensure his club were for all time, at the very least, the second largest team in Scotland, and, eventually, could push Celtic for top spot.

It would be a ballsy move, but if you want to create a super-club you need to think a little creatively.

  1. Just watched that pash prog on BBC2. Celtic last game on….again!

Robby the jobby clearly calls the two incidents in the Murderwell game as diving.

I actually agree that it was simulation but Sheridan’s was not as clear cut.

Rewind a couple of weeks when Aluko does a Tom Daley it’s `clear contact’ with no diving mentioned. Utter pash Robby – i see your pain!

    Hope all’s well with you.

I think you enjoy your rugby. I noticed some exchanges on that subject today suggesting that it is rare for a catholic to be selected for the Scottish NT. Very surprised to read that. Is that a fact?

  4. Guys,

I am surprised at the well…..surprise on the blog tonight.

No-one responded to a post recently asking if Whyte had covered himself by owning (at least in part) 3 Rangers players……

And….the question was raised as to what the world would look like, if the offshore trust showed payments to people not officially employed by Rangers…….

    Just saying….

When approx did he make the Blackman comment? , I have the game recorded but can’t find it.

  6. Burnley….did burley make the comment about Blackman during the game?

If so, approximately when? We don’t get pre game or half time programming here, but I have the game taped.

    Thanks.

    Ref rugby and the SRU

Yip to my knowledge only 5 catholics have ever played for Scotland at rugby and only 1 black person.

This is in stark contrast to England who have a very high number of catholics due to the strength of the game in jesuit and other catholic schools down there.

For many years St Aloysius had a very competitive team who regularly (5 times) won the schools cup (although not any more) yet only one of these kids made it into the national set up.

Maybe demographics or maybe more sinister…..national trials for the under 16s are in the next 2 weeks so I will keep you informed on how they progress for our lads. Especially those who support the hoops….

UEFA put the banner enquiry back. Was it because they knew some serious stuff wd be coming their way re the SFA enquiry?

  12. May have missed the bus on this one, but anyone filing a complaint over negative Nelly Burley should CC the ESPN in the USA. They are very sensitive over any criticisms. If enough of us mention him to the USA head office, it will be investigated by corporate. Bye Bye walloper.

Jude2005, most of us don’t but the DR. However, a lot of Tims subscribe to ESPN.

HATEly’s comments could probably pass as the Editors Opinion.

Big difference for me is that H is a h*n and Curley-Wurley used to play for us.

For any North American folks….ESPN Corporate would be more sensitive to the comment about Andre Blackman, than they would about burley’s other comments.

    Email them……

  18. On a serious note, the sudden demise of Paul, our esteemed (Q.C.) defender of Celtic, and many other ‘put-a-upon’ defendants, may i say that he was a true ‘Knight’ in every sense of the word! He slew the ‘worst of dragons’, the ones from the ‘Human Race’! What a clever young man, his family must be devasted, may the good god be kind to them, and may they ever more remember a son who always put others before himself, and them, in the quest for fairness!!!

God be good to him !

    I believe!!!,so did paul!

  19. RE Rugby:

I played the game for a few years at competitive level in Ayrshire. Not sure about the number of Catholics having been selected for Hootsmon XI, but there were quite a few on my team. Used to enjoy the panic in a hun’s eye just before my 6’3 bulk used to move him back ten feet at full speed…

In Discussing.. whit Ah Thought of Commons’,Performance.

    In Ma Opinion…

.. Ah must declare ,Contrary…. tae whit his bin the judgmental Consensus oan this here, Forum.. concerning, the Performance of the Bhoy,Commons..

That Mr. Commons Team Performance, Yesterday.. tae be a most.. “EFFECTIVE” wan..

while the Preponderance of opinon ,oan Here..

Declared it tae be .. An Unacceptable One.

Actually, gie me a Guy, who turns in an “Effective Performance”.

over a Guy, who flatters tae Deceive.. by turning in a Brilliant Individual Performance..

For the full Ninety Minutes…WITHOOT producing one single effort , which produced a Dividend.

    By .. The Term…”Effective Performance”

    I am meaning

A Player displaying a single Moment of Brilliance.Howevah,Isolated ,it may be.. as in Mr. Commons case

Assuredly,”AFFECTED”, the FINAL OOTCOME of the Game.

This is in stark contrast to a Player..whose Over all Efforts,

    in the game..

could be viewed as Being Brilliant..to a Fault..

But ,the Fault being, of course.. that His INDIVIDUAL Efforts,

Brilliant, though they were.. Produced NOT . One ,solitary

    Dividend..over the full Ninety Minutes.

    Again,in Ma Opinion..

Ah am convinced that Mr. Commons is The Type o’ Player who can

CONSISTENTLY . deliver.at least WAN moment of Brilliance,

which wull pay an INSTANT DIVIDEND.. in a Game in which he is A STARTER.

He is.. In Ma Opinion. anywey..

    An “EFFECTIVE” Player.

    Again.. in MA opinion..

The Presence of Commons in Yesterday’s Line-up. was of the

    Utmost Imporance.

    Fur Ah propound … that..

If he had NOT,t bin included in Lenny’s Starting Eleven.. we..may well….have Floundered tae Defeat at the Hauns o’

the Lucky as Larry , Dons.

Ah hope Mr.Lennon, sees things in the same light as Ah did. concerning his selection of Mr. Commons.

    Boatum Line…

Ah am gled that Lenny, included Commons in his starting selection.. and Ah wid Confidently Include.. The Commons Name..in Ma Starting Line-up fur the upcoming. Dundee Jampots. Confronto.

May Ah add..the Names o’ .. Stokesy, Hooper.. Forrest.. and.. Sammi.. as Players who would Equally qualify , as tae being

    called. an “EFFECTIVE PERFORMER”

RIP Paul McBride. I knew him many years ago at Uni in the early 80s. A great personality and extremely quick witted even then. In those days as a young student he could easily play the clown but as soon as any serious discussion or debate ensued he would wipe the floor with you. Had a wee nostalgic look through all the old photies. Haven’t seen him since my sisters wedding over 20 years ago. A great friend of Celtic and will be sadly missed.
