You did this in 2013

1233

Yet again during 2013 we asked you to put your hand in your pocket and you responded as only Celtic fans do.  You raised £6000 before and during the focus of our summer fundraising activity, the annual golf day.  £4500 of this went towards the 1254125 Appeal, which during the year did an enormous amount to anchor the club and support right back to where we came from.  Clic Sargent, who help children with cancer, also benefited at that time.

Thanks also to those who sponsored my 10k at the Great Scottish Run in October to the tune of £1552.  Times remain tight for many, so I the value of your support.

Perhaps the biggest response all year came from the commitment we made to Mary’s Meals to build and kit a kitchen at the Kholoni Primary School in Malawi.  1200 kids are registered at the school but there are no catering facilities, so students go hungry, or simply don’t go to school at all.  Pablophanque’s family sent on the £4500 support they received in 2011 to the appeal, while 470 people booked a seat at the CQteN St Patrick’s Day dinner, with more on the waiting list.  The work we’ll achieve in 2014 will be incredible.

This place can stress and annoy sometimes but it has become a great window into the soul of the Celtic support.

Have a great Christmas and thank you for all your support.

Wallace is a decent player, he’s made good money out of sevco so good luck to him needs to play at a higher level though and the Huns won’t get anywhere near £3m for him HH

  2. Best wishes to all posters, lurkers and to Paul for a wonderful blog. Hope you all have a happy Christmas and a peaceful New Year

My biggest non-Celtic wish is for 2014 is for something to be done about foodbanks.

An aboslute disgrace that good people in our so called ‘developed’ country have to organise and distribute food to people who cannot afford basic necessities.

I’m still unsure of who will get my vote for independence but I will put a tick in the box for the party who addresses what Andreas Whittam Smith wrote in the i newspaper on the 13th December. ‘Poverty is the scourge of the age and that good neighbours are almost certainly doing more to aleviate the problem than the Government

Foodbanks in 2013 – what a legacy to have. I would be ashamed.

  20. Remember these two young men in your prayers tonight. A loss heightened by the timing. May they both rest in peace.

THE bosses of Hearts and Hibs were united in grief last night as they mourned the tragic deaths of two footie starlets.

Devastated Gary Locke and Terry Butcher paid tribute to Tynecastle FC’s Jamie Skinner and Hibs youngster David Paul.

We told yesterday how Jamie, 13, collapsed during a match on Sunday in Edinburgh, while 18-year-old David was found dead in bed earlier that day.

Stunned Gary said: “It’s devastating for both sides of the city.

“The thoughts of everyone at Heart of Midlothian go out to the families of both boys.

“We have lost two talented young footballers and that is tragic.

“In Jamie we lost a young lad who was doing what he loved by playing football.”

Hibs gaffer Terry added: “There’s a lot of very upset people. David had been at the club since he was ten. We had high hopes for his future, so he’s going to be sorely missed.”

Jamie, who’d switched to Tynecastle from the Jambos, slumped on the pitch during a game against Spartans FC in Saughton, Edinburgh.

Frantic parents tried to revive him before he was rushed by paramedics to the city’s Royal Infirmary, but he died soon after arriving.

Meanwhile Terry told how under-20s star David, of Fairmilehead in the capital, had taken part in an X Factor-style Christmas show for the players a day before he passed away. He said: “David was one half of Jedward. He was singing away and now he’s gone. It’s so very hard to comprehend.”

Jamie’s dad George was too upset to comment at the family home in Moredun, Edinburgh. He said: “We just want time to grieve.”

David’s family declined to comment. A spokesman for the Scottish Professional Football League said: “We offer our sincere condolences.”

There are no suspicious circumstances in the deaths. Post-mortems are to be held this week.
