You, your Celtic heritage and Vanessa

759

I’m sure many of you will be aware of the Vanessa Riddle appeal which has featured in the comments page in recent weeks.  Vanessa was diagnosed with a form of childhood cancer in 2009 but after extensive and difficult treatment received the all clear 17 months ago.  Last month her parents received news that she had suffered a relapse and that no suitable treatment was available in the UK.  Treatment is available in Philadelphia at a cost of £500,000.

Although the diagnosis is only a few weeks old the fundraising effort to send Vanessa to Philadelphia has already raised over £137k with increasing numbers of people becoming aware of the need on a daily basis (CQN’er, Brogan Rogan Trevino and Hogan is not a man to be denied).

To help raise awareness and funds, Taggsybhoy has booked Jury’s Inn, Glasgow, two nights next month, one of which, Saturday 11th February, he will hold a Music Quiz for the CQN community, with all proceeds going to the Vanessa Riddle Appeal.  You may have heard mention of the appeal but if you have not caught the details take a moment to update yourself here.  Getting involved is as part of your Celtic heritage as green and white hoops.  Don’t forget to book for the quiz, there’s a limit of 70 people for the room so you can’t turn up unannounced.  We’re home to the Highanders that day.

Issue 6 of CQN Magazine is currently being prepared; drop me a line if you would like to advertise, celticquicknews@gmail.com.

  13. Brogan Rogan Trevino and Hogan supports Kano 1000 on

    Good Evening,

and straight away my thanks to Paul for highlighting the appeal for Vanessa Riddle.

It may well be the case that I was the first to highlight this girl’s plight but I have to say that from my own knowledge there is a whole heap of thanks and praise due to several CQNers who have done and who continue to do a great deal in promoting wee Vanessa’s appeal.

Without in any way seeking to name everyone or to single anyone out, I have to say that Taggsybhoy has done a great deal to organise the quiz night– with no shortage of hinderances etc from me!

Many others have been very generous with time, ideas, funds, donations, gifts etc etc etc.

On another occasion I will try and list at least some of the things that people have done to help this girl.

There are some very very good people on CQN– I don’t know them by name or sight— but I know and have huge respect for them and their spirit.

Please also not the appeals for blood for Oscar and his fight, and don’t just skip by the appeals that have been highlighted by Whitedoghunch. Look at the Just giving site he has linked as this too is a worthy cause. Also, I have in the past spoken to those who work for Enable and the relentless and often unnoticed work that charity do in the community. They deserve great recognition and support.

For Vanessa, whilst a lot of money has been raised there is still a long way to go– and every penny is needed.

So do what you can, when you can, and thanks for all your support so far!

Sorry that this is not in my usual storytelling style but I have been as busy as hell and I ammnot getting any younger!! Hopefully normal service will be resumed in th next day or so!

    Re the Raith Rovers game.

It was everything which our wilderness years had come to mean.

    Ibrox.

Charlie Nicholas being fat and rubbish second time around.

    Mike Galloway.

Jimmy ‘Not a Hun, Honest’ Nicholl.

    Gordon Dalziel equalizing.

And Paul, or own maestro, genius hobbled by deferential personality, missing to give it all away.

    It fair broke your heart.

I remember kneeling in front of the telly, willing him to score and, when he missed, falling forward and banging my head repeatedly on the carpet like a maddie. I had the distinct impression of a black gaping chasm opening up in front of me and me falling in.

And then, to well and truly salt the wound, I had to pick up a wean at a party in the soft play centre in Ayr which used to be a masonic temple. Sometimes you think God hates you. The other mums and dads were all nice folk who didn’t care about football except an old school chum who looked more shocked than me . We couldn’t even speak.

I’ve never , ever felt so low about Celtic. Not even the 3 -0 home tanking to give thems the league in ’99. Not even on Black Sunday. Not even when Lee Naylor’s cowardice at the back post at Easter Road cost us the title in 2009.

I still shudder to remember it.

  18. When SadiesBhoy left school, he went to work for HMIT (HM Inspector of Taxes). There was a serious number of Tims employed in both tax offices where I worked. I would imagine that some of these ghuys have attained prominent positions in that department of the civil service.

  19. Blindlemonchitlin

I moved to Kirkcaldy a few years before the League Cup final. Every Hun who could talk was suddenly a RR supporter.

I also had the misfortune to be in the RR end at Ibrox. Stayed in Glasgow that night and got steamin as I was off work the next day. At the time I worked in Cowdenbeath, which I think translates into Horrible Hun Hellhole.

    i appreciate you mentioning Enable.

I was wary of linking my event as Vanessa still needs so much

but the I only found out I was doing it tmrw today.

For Vanessa I have plenty of free time

and I am a persistant chap

  21. This may be old news, and apologies if it is…

Heard tonight the management of the Huns tax case is moving from the Glasgow office to the London office?

Something to do with fear of reprisals.

Just passing it on. No way i can vouch for accuracy

  22. The only thing worst than a poor Celtic team losing to Raith in a cup final was losing to Falkirk in real time again at ibrox after TWO games v First Division side with prima donnas Di Canio and Cadete. That was worse.

Sadly losing to lower league sides has became a very bad habit.
