ON-LOAN CELT’S INJURY SETBACK

ON-LOAN Celt Eoghan O’Connell has suffered an injury setback at Walsall.

The Republic of Ireland Under-21 defender is poised to miss the next three weeks of the season.

O’Connell had his nose broken in a clash in the League One 1-0 home loss against Fleetwood on Tuesday.

And he had to be substituted shortly afterwards with a hamstring problem.

Manager Jon Whitney, who immediately ruled the 21-year-old centre-half out of the game against Southend today, said: “We have assessed Eoghan, but the injury is still quite tight.

“It looks as though he will need a scan. But he’s Celtic’s player, so we’ll do whatever they ask.

“We won’t know exactly how long he will be out until he’s had the scan, but on average, with my experience, hamstrings usually take between 17 and 21 days.”

O’Connell has been in impressive form since joining the club during the January transfer window.

He will return to the champions at the end of the campaign for contract talks with Brendan Rodgers with his current deal due to expire in June.
