Sviatchenko out but turmoil also at Astana

589

I remember a situation several years ago when we had five full backs and converted-full backs out injured at the same time. The injured count for central defenders is not currently as high but the situation is just as critical.

Erik Sviatchenko joins Jozo Simunovic, Dedryck Boyata and Kristoffer Ajer on the injured list. Kolo Toure is certain to be added to the Uefa squad before tonight’s deadline but will be pushed to be match fit for next week.

Fortunately, the man who has spent more time injured over the last two seasons than anyone else, Mikael Lustig, is fit and able to move from full back into the middle, with Saidy Janko able to deputise on the right.

More words have been written about Efe Ambrose than any other Celtic player this month. It’s quite possible he’ll move on towards the end of the transfer window but he’s set to be given an opportunity to make good his error in Gibraltar by leading an unfamiliar defensive line-up in Astana tomorrow.

If I had a choice, I would prefer Celtic in adversity than Celtic over-confident. We know we will have to protect the defence tomorrow so the match plan should be straightforward.

Astana are not without their concerns either. Kazak media are concerned Astana are weaker than a year ago, due to the departure of Georgi Zhukov the likely absence of captain and top scorer, Tanant Nuserbayev, added to the turmoil at the club this week, caused by Lyon’s bid for midfielder, Nemanja Maksimovic. They will battle tomorrow, but their preparations are far from ideal.

  1. Has PL moved to M.Utd? They seem to be taking a very long time to sign up Pogba, surely one phone call settles it one way or the other?

  2. Bmcuw – that is great news for inward investment in sure we’ll be told! Low wage economy. Job insecurity. Political chaos. The great upward redistribution of wealth continues apace!

Will we have too many Centre backs available next week

Kolo Toure has been registered by @celticfc with UEFA and therefore will eligible to play in next week’s return leg against Astana.

Oh,aye. They’ll spin that for all their worth.

Swindon has been hit hard by the exponential use of agencies. In 2002,the local paper had a 48-page jobs pullout every week. It fits inside one page now.

Then,a security guard at WH Smiths HQ was on £22k,a warehouse worker started at £10 per hour. If you worked in a certain generic pharmaceuticals firm, about £14 per hour.

All agency staff now. All minimum wage. And I’m not making that up.

  6. Robert Tressell. My thoughts exactly re Daily Rectum. I’d never buy it and probably shouldn’t even give it a hit online.

Actually that’s more to do with people looking online for work, agencies or otherwise. This directly related to my work. Getting jobs advertised online and in print.

My point is that few companies bother hiring directly now, particularly at unskilled/semi-skilled level.

Perfectly happy to farm out the responsibility to an agency instead of using their own HR-if they still have one!

Savings made on management time, admin, holiday pay, pensions, the lot.

They can dress it how they like, but it’s a disgrace.

On top of that,if you decide to sue for Unfair Dismissal-if you have a contract in the first place,of course-you have to cough up £1200+ at the starting gate.

No,sorry bud. It’s a shocking state of affairs.

And Liam fox – what we used to be allowed to call a ‘class traitor’. But along with ‘scab’ it’s probably covered by some ‘offensive behaviour’ or trade union bill!

He is one though. Traitor that is. I don’t know if he’s ever scabbed but I’m sure he would approve of it. so he is a scab enabler!

I definitely agree with you on the £1200 fee. That’s scandalous.

Our jobs are almost evenly split between agency advertised or directly advertised. Bear in mind that agencies are increasingly used to recruit permanent full time staff by SMEs. So it’s not quite as doom and gloom as you think.

Anyway enjoy your day, about an hour until my nerves will start jangling.

Good luck to the Celts today, hope we come back with something better than 0-3. Missing out on the game with hospital stuff but already looking forward to next Wednesday night.

Sometimes it’s sh1te being right…..and so it transpired.

Also worth noting subsequent tweet by Stokes after the final thanking him for coming into the Hibs changing room and personally congratulated every Hibs player.

Both of these are instructive for me.

  16. Re The posts earlier about the DR bumming up Sevco and undermining Celtic.

I expect that from a Scottish rag but the BBC is supposed to be impartial.

I have not been selective but look at these key words and expressions in giving the desired message:

    A) ` cruised` ; `outclassed ( the opposition`; `have yet to concede a goal` ; `controlled the game while operating at a low tempo`; ` dictating the pace and range`; ` grew in prominence`; continued to spray passes`.

The following words were all used to describe one player: `quick`; `elusive`; and he`glided with impudence and menace`.

All of the above were taken from Sevco`z latest game against third tier opposition.

    B) `crisis`; `injured list`; ` opponents are top of their domestic League `; `much criticised ( Efe) ` ` whose total first team experience consists of eight matches`.( I don`t know if Sevco`s Rossiter has had any first team matches but his inexperience was ignored when he was mentioned as returning from the England camp for his first outing with Sevco.).

The above were taken from an article on Celtic`s upcoming Champions League qualifier.

Reporting such as the above is one of the reasons I am so against negativity ( even when I agree with the criticism) on here.

One last point on this before I go, and it’s not directly related.

The unions, in my recent experience, are no longer there to protect workers rights. My family has had direct dealings with Unison recently and at every turn it was clear that the decisions and advice were made in order to make life for East Dunbartonshire Council as easy as possible. Not help the workers.

“No compulsory redundancies” sounds great until you realise it means workers being moved into unsuitable ‘displaced’ positions until they reach the point where they resign.

  30. Scullyboy (9.01am), have you read the Paul Pogba entry on Wikipedia? He and his agent sound like right chancers. And, in any case, why would Man Utd want to spend £100M on a player that they released for nothing a few years back? He doesn’t look to me like the best player in the world, and his career stats don’t seem to suggest that either.

£100M for a decent but not really outstanding midfielder is nothing short of offensive money. What chance have we of competing at the top table if the teams already thereabouts are considering paying weekly “wages” at a level where we are pitching our transfer fee offers for potential signings?!
