The Craig Whyte narrative. Kris, Leo.

1626

Best news of the day?  Kris Commons wants to be involved tomorrow against Barcelona.  I doubt Kris is anywhere near match fit, so there’s no chance of him starting on Wednesday against Astana, but a 15 minute cameo, when the Astana players’ body clocks are telling them it’s after 2am, would go down a treat.

I’ve always been a bit more ambivalent about Leonel Messi than most.  “He’s not hit the levels of Ronaldinho” is my stock comment, and then there’s the dirty little subject.  (Tax).

But his media comments ahead of tomorrow’s International Champions Cup game, “I have a Celtic jersey at home. The games against Celtic were special and I want to remember them”, proves there’s substance to the man.

I’ve a Celtic jersey at home too, Leo.  A few of us here do.

Former-Rangers former vice-chairman Donald Findlay is to defend Craig Whyte is his forthcoming trial.

Whyte’s urban legend is going to be difficult to shift, but it’s not accurate.  We mocked Rangers fans a few years ago, referring to him as “Our Hero” but he never was.  He was the bag man for a very dirty job.

How he handled the SFA, Uefa, HMRC and, most crucially, the insolvency court, when he managed to secure the appointment of Duff and Phelps as Rangers administrators was crucial in the continuation of football at Ibrox.

It was Duff and Phelps who gave Newco the right to use the name “Rangers”, after which point Whyte could claim he was passing on “Rangers”.  Everyone else mocked this liquidation fantasy at the time.  Until liquidation became a reality, that is.

Whyte left Newco relatively safe in the hands of Charles Green, where it would have thrived, if it hadn’t faced a hostile and damaging takeover bid from its first week of life.

Our auction prize, donated by (the pretty fabulous) Celtic sponsor, Intelligent Car Leasing, closes just after 1pm today.

You can win:

2 seats in the directors’ box

Champagne reception

5 course meal in the Walfrid Suite

Fully expenses bar (pre and post-match)

Half time snacks and refreshments

Car Parking

At the game against Kilmarnock on 24 September.

Money raised from the auction will go towards building a school kitchen in Malawi for Mary’s Meals. It it will be the 5th CQN school kitchen.

Our four existing kitchens feed over 2000 primary aged kids every day. School attendance has increased 30% since kitchens were built, as kids attend for their daily meal. This has an impact on health, education and life chances.

You can follow the auction on eBay here.  Thank you.

I’m off to Aberdour now for the 12th annual CQN Golf Open.  I’ll be the one holding the jackets.

See you then.

  1. Tried pepperami, can’t remember what colour, on a boat from Zeebrugge it was vile stuff. Probably the only stuff banned from that hole on taste grounds that deserves it.

Only the huns could ban the promotion of the product due to the colour of packaging. :)

  3. Ah! but they play on green grass, even tho they did try the blue grass, how fecking thick are they thinking that the grass would have been blue.

And folks wonder why they died.

  4. Colour of packaging aside it deserved to be taken outside and given a decent burial.

Their pecadillos regarding wrapper colour only underlines their terminal stupidity.

I,m not a hun but not surprised that someone asked.

I,ve paid 12 quid per month to Celtic tv for the last 3 years and saw almost every game live.

    Because I live abroad.

Endured crap commentary and crap live feeds but still give my financial support to the Hoops.

I could easily access an illegal stream and watch all games for free on internet but i dont.

This is my way of supporting Celtic whilst living abroad.

If that makes me a hun then …I,m a hun :(

Stevie Murray was, and still is, an underrated player for Celtic. Ahead of his time, he was the box to box all rounder who apparently cost 100m euros these days. Relatively young when injury forced his retirement.

They still talk about that Basel team here, that was their great team by all accounts..

As TET alluded. It must break their staunch hearts that they need to play on green grass.

  9. About eight years ago, driving through France, we stopped at an eaterie place, the young fella decided that he wanted to try a sausage dish, it looked fine, way over the top the price, about nine euros for a single sausage if I recall, anyways, when we were at the table the smell from his plate wisny the may west, he tried the sausage and he couldn’t get it out of his mouth quick enough.

Moral of the story, give me a Pepperami any day :-)

Woman at the next table was scoffing her sausage big time, she was luving it

  10. Oh forgot to say I am talking my wee girl to waterstones in Cork tomorrow for the Harry Potter book launch, bought her the book back in Feb and hid the receipt from her. The look on her face is going to be so worth it. Can’t wait to read the script too if truth be told.

  11. Usual negative whinging garbage from so called Celtic supporters on here today.

Players lacking in confidence getting abused left right and centre.

Telfer Caldwell Strachan Naylor Fernandez Bobo

To name but a few Celts who played their part despite the abuse.

Grown men with their pathetic often ignorant ‘expert’ opinion seeking to create more anxiety amongst our own players thinking this will improve our performance.

Folk writing off the kid dembelle after a handful of pre season games. Utterly pathetic.

I,m certainly not writing Dembele off but there are doubts.

Of course I also called KOk a donkey after his 1st game against hibs when he caused an opposition goal.

    Look where that ended

    What do I know?

Hopefully Dembele will surprise me and become a legend at Celtic .

Theres already a few hail mary,s gone ito that subject from this side.

I hope he gets going and fires us to the title and a good run in Europe.

  16. Celticfan1961 on

Haha ,proudest moment of my life was legends game against Man Utd had my kids and most of my family and dear old dad at that game.

Watching KOK score a hatrick and beating the Manks 5-2

    was amazing and unforgettable.

By the time we got in the stadium we were down 2-0

So the result was such a joy.our presence obviously swung the tie;)

Doing the huddle with my whole family and 60’000 other fans that day was dream come true stuff.

  17. Celticfan1961 on

Delaneys …I dont think I was the only one who called him a donkey after that pass to chic charnley.

But it was a momentary lapse of reason,I learned from it .
