Coordination and confidence

Wee Oscar’s dad, Knoxy, asked me to relay this message to you……

“The BIG cycle to Belfast… WOW! What an absolutely incredible effort by so so many people all to raise money for our wee hero, and a great night was had by all on Saturday night up at Donegal Celtic. It is very very humbling and I really felt that my thanks conveyed to them all on Saturday night was just not enough. I know they didn’t do it for thanks or for a pat on the back but I really hope they know that both me and Leona are deeply deeply moved by what they have done.

Over the last 9 months we have thanked many hundreds of people for all sorts of different things they have done for Oscar and I’m sure after a while the thanking almost comes across a bit ‘rehearsed’ and maybe a bit insincere but we just want to make sure they all know how thankful we are to them and to the amazing people who have donated to such a whopping total!”

Fantastic work by all, very well done.

Celtic have conceded 16 goals in the 9 games since Efe Ambrose’ much debated return to the team which faced Juventus last month, a period which saw them eliminated from the Champions League and the League Cup, while losing to Motherwell and Ross County.

They conceded 16 goals in the previous 24 games, including two Champions League games against Barcelona, one against Benfica and one against Spartak Moscow.  A problem which initially appeared to be limited to Efe, has clearly affected others, including Kelvin Wilson and even the goalkeeper looks less assured than before.

More than any other facet of football, defending is dependent on confidence and teamwork.  If communication is poor, you make mistakes.  If you expect teammates to make mistakes, you’ll make decisions accordingly.  If your decisions reflect a lack of confidence, you’re on a slippery slope to losing goals.  Bad defenders look good in good teams but good defenders look hopeless once order is disturbed.

Only just catching up with the antics on Gallowgate on Saturday.  Not read about the destruction of property or occasions of assault, which I assume preceded the mass arrests.  Surely?  I’m not sure if Alex Salmond has renewed the high levels of police funding for football-related activity, which was initially due to expire at the end of this month, but for someone who is usually so politically savvy, he seems to have set off on a road without checking consequences of the legal questions.

A bit like his major project…..

Where we are today is a consequence of the First Minister’s initiatives in 2011, and is why Celtic fans, the Club, and many others, opposed the initiative at the time.  It’s playing out pretty much as everyone with an interest in football expected.  Mr Salmond’s Scotland is looking a bit like Mrs Thatcher’s Yorkshire, circa 1984.

You’re as well blaming the inclement weather as blaming the police or anyone in the game, the police, like the weather, do what they do. This is the work of the Other Charlotte Square Bogeyman.

    Here’s what I think, and here’s what I suspect…….

For the 58 years I have been lucky enough to support the Famous Glasgow Celtic, we have been the target of unrelenting hatred from within the Scottish Football establishmental….

They have wanted to destroy our Club because of our Irish Catholic roots, and ended up destroying their favoured Club because they allowed their financial madness to go unchecked……..

Why did they fail to destroy us…..quite simply because we did not supply them with the ammunition they needed to destroy us….while they tried every trick in the book to get us to react, we maintained a dignified SILENCE……we showed character and resisted them by being better and ‘bigger’ than them………our policy

” throw asnmuch shoite as you like at us…….we’ll take it all, and come out on top”

And we have come out on top…..OUR DAY HAS COME…..they’re despicable Club has gone….finished, deed..

But it still goes on….they still want us held down…..but we don’t lie down…..we laugh at their pathetic agendae….

Now theyve turned on the GB…….the only problem ith the GB is that they are not getting good advice….

Here’s what you havebto do, GB, from an old battle- hardened resistance fighter…..

    You don’t demonstrate……

    You ignore them all…….

    You quietly enter the stadium…….

For the whole 90 minutes you proudly sing your fabulous Celtic repertoire…..BUT

At the start of the game, you proudly sing The Soldier’s Song and near the end of the first half you sing A Nation Once Again……same for the second half

I guarantee you, within a month the whole stadium will be ‘roaring’ out alongside you…

You will grow in your membership and you will be promoting the image our Club has built since 1888……….and our knockers will be put back in THEIR place ……as the horrible, bigoted, hateful little cretins we know they are……..

Let them wallow in the glory of Manchester……..we will wallow in the glory of Lisbon

Play smart, and you will win……..as we have done to date……

  6. Monday 16th

I had a wonderful visit today with my mother, father and Marcella. Wonderful, considering the circumstances and the strain which indeed they are surely under.

As I expected, I received a lot of verbal flak from Screws going and coming from the actual visit. Their warped sense of humour was evident in their childish taunts, etcetera.

I wrapped myself up well to keep me from the cold. My weight is 58.25 kgs today, but I burnt up more energy today with the visit. I’ve no complaints of any nature.

I’ve noticed the orderlies are substituting slices of bread for bits of cake, etcetera — stealing the sweet things (which are rare anyway) for themselves. I don’t know whether it’s a case of ‘How low can you get?’ or ‘Well, could you blame them?’ But they take their choice and fill of the food always, so it’s the former.

They left my supper in tonight when the priest (Fr Murphy) was in. There were two bites out of the small doughy bun. I ask you!

I got the Sunday World newspaper; papers have been scarce for the past few days.

There is a certain Screw here who has taken it upon himself to harass me to the very end and in a very vindictive childish manner. It does not worry me, the harassment, but his attitude aggravates me occasionally. It is one thing to torture, but quite a different thing to exact enjoyment from it, that’s his type.

There was no mirror search going out to visits today — a pleasant change. Apparently, with the ending of the no-wash protest, the mercenary Screws have lost all their mercenary bonuses, etcetera, notwithstanding that they are also losing overtime and so on. So, not to be outdone, they aren’t going to carry out the mirror search any more, and its accompanying brutality, degradation, humiliation, etcetera.

Why! Because they aren’t being paid for it!

I’m continually wrapped up in blankets, but find it hard to keep my feet warm. It doesn’t help my body temperature, drinking pints of cold water. I’m still able to take the salt and five or six pints of water per day without too much discomfort.

The books that are available to me are trash. I’m going to ask for a dictionary tomorrow. I’d just sit and flick through that and learn, much more preferable to reading rubbish.

The English rag newspapers I barely read, perhaps flick through them and hope that no one opens the door. A copy of last week’s AP/RN was smuggled in and was read out last night (ingenuity of POWs again). I enjoyed listening to its contents (faultless – get off them ! – good lad Danny (Morrison)). I truly hope that the people read, take in and understand at least some of the truths that are to be regularly found in it. I see Paddy Devlin is at his usual tricks, and won’t come out and support the prisoners…

Well, that’s it for tonight. I must go. Oíche Mhaith.

  11. Re The Bobby Sands Diary, Not sure if posters on here know but Bobby’s son is a Tim and attends Celtic Park regularly. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting him and chatting to him about the ‘tic

  12. I said when the club made its initial statement that it was welcome and it was a fair first step into a very complex arena.

The 2nd statement tonight is merely a repetition and does not advance the position one iota. It is, in fact, given the escalation by the police, quite a provocative statement.

I cannot understand the club’s indifference on this issue. Even on a purely commercial, rather than a community basis, The Green Brigade are one of the unique selling points which male Celtic attendance attractive.

I am well aware of the difficulties in managing a group that is largely antagonistic towards the Board and plc but, if our Board, think they can pick off some elements and yet retain a vibrant support, they have made a serious miscalculation.

Tonight’s poor statement will not wash. It needs to be followed up by something more forthright.

  13. Ah fek this

Mull over this plastic republicans and you see through left wing radicals

My teenage years and early 20s were spent growing up in the West of Scotland in the late 70 and early 80s when support for the republican movement in these parts was probably at its peak . It was mostly prevalent amongst young men who had spent their formative years listening to their fathers collection of rebel records and at that’s as close as some of them ever actually got to ever setting foot in Ireland. Now out of of all those so called republicans in the west of scotland back in those days I know of only one , having met him personally and shared breakfast while discussing Celtic at his aunts boarding house in Hillhead, having the courage of his convictions to actually go over there and support the cause personally. The same man had prior to volunteering been a member of the british Army. The rest of the republican support over here then manifested itself in the consumption of Lanliq Eldorado and special brew and then belting out a few rebel songs at the football. Sometimes you would get a wee box passed round the pub on the Saturday for donations however I doubt very much wether the pounds shilling and pence ever got beyond the nearest off licence or financing a night oot at the Muscular Arms then the Savvy. As a footnote the volunteer I shared breakfast with ended up scamming a couple of republican pubs out of money for Celtic season tickets before disappearing. At that time I also had relatives in Belfast and my uncle Felix Kelly was a devout practising catholic and principal of a large Belfast School however when he visited any talk of of the troubles or any sympathy was shown towards the republican movement it was usually met with a sharp rebuke of being a charade for criminal activity self interest and financial gain

Which brings me to Saturdays protest and the indignation shock horror and condemnation being directed towards the polis. The self same critics of the said polis who revel in the cloak anonymity afforded to them by the the Internet and peddle their republican rhetoric and demand the right to sing political songs at the football glorifying individuals who were no doubt complicit and stood by while the tarring and feathering of young girls from their own community went on for the crime of being in love. I imagine you don’t demand the right to sing any wee political songs during your lunch break at your place of employment. Granted polis numbers in my opinion were a bit over the top but when you have university graduates ,who can’t get a job elsewhere, running the show with very little experience of the sharp end of policing they will protect their careers by throwing as many resources as possible at a problem rather than taking a common sense approach. However I do believe the protestors were offered the opportunity to hold their corteo on the footpaths from Glasgow X to Celtic Park, and with the little numbers involved, I don’t know why this offer wasn’t taken up. I also have no doubts that the polis would have been in communication with insiders who vastly overestimated the numbers who were likely to turn up.It’s also a tad difficult for the police to determine who is is a juvenile and who is not, while the majority of the participants are determined to conceal their identities. Also as has been put forward with the number of juveniles supposedly taking part why did the organisers determine that a public house was an appropriate place for assembling. As for the actual numbers taking part it was a very poor turnout which indicates to me that there is not as a subtantial groundswell of support as many folk would have you believe. It may come as a surprise, and it will really get under skin of the staunchly republican minded among you, I can say that without fear of contradiction there is probably more serving police officers that turn up to watch the Celtic on a Saturday than protestors turn up at the Chrystal Bells to make a statement of support for their fellow Celtic fans.

As I have stated previously I have yet to see any video footage of criminal activity which would lead to any police officer being prosecuted and I am still waiting for someone to post a video of woman and children being belted with batons.

As for the diatribe and pash that will no doubt be spouted in my direction save yourself and your fingers the trouble chaps and go back to what your expert at doing and spend the vast amount of your lives doing and promote your own wee HunWatch club

Ps I take it that the firms of legal agents who are shocked and dismayed at the actions of the police and whatever act they were enforcing and are so keen to defend the innocent will decline the legal aid reimbursement and offer their services pro bono

….PFAyr, I think the club have asked a couple of times now for specific complaints from fans that they can act on. They state they will take these complaints to Strathclyde Police, if they don’t get any they can’t action them.

On this front Celtic have been proactive – some of the good people that might have made complaints have already been banned (or “suspended”) from Celtic Park in the interim. Now, given the club has banned them, what possible reason would there be to contact the club? They have already decided on the matter. And not in a sympathetic or evenhanded manner.

If they do and don’t act on them they are open to a huge amount of criticism.

As above, the have acted. By banning Celtic supporters.

Back in the good old days, my father enjoyed a number of correspondances with Fergus McCann. Fergus had many failings, failing he was happy to admit to, but suggesting he was anti-Celtic or anti Celtic support produced a visible change in the mans writing style. He was outraged at such a suggestion. To the point of being insulting. It showed he cared about the club and the fans.

The current Celtic board have released an anodyne statement. One designed to meet minimum requirements – but when the support are outraged and under attack, is this really the best they can muster? “Send us a letter and we’ll look at it (but only if we haven’t already banned you)”.

I don’t know the truth behind the “rope” comments. But I do know that the clubs response thus far has been evasive and insuffient.

  20. 67Heaven ... I am Neil Lennon..!!.. Ibrox belongs to the creditors on

Row Z …… Hail Hail …….. We are both the GB…….they just need to play ‘smarter’ and they WILL win……

  21. On the GB

We all admire the noise, colour and humour that they bring to the ground

They are being used by the SNP government and SP – both of whom have separate agendas but who are happy to exploit the GB’s lack of political experience

The SNP have invested a lot politically and financially in their football legislation – remember this was a First Minister initiative and must succeed

The police have a new Tsar wanting to justify his job and wages

In such a politically charged atmosphere – people need to think very hard before

taking any action that will play in to the hands of these two groups

The GB need to decide if they want to be “inside” the system or if they want to be outside.

If they want to be inside then they need to play according to the rules

If you want to march – then apply for the appropriate permission

I’m sure all those who hold Republican marches etc – still go through the normal channels

If you state that you are going to hold a march but want to call it a fancy name – but don’t get the Polis to agree – its hardly surprising that the Polis see that as a chance to prove to their political masters just what a good job they are doing for all that money!

Likewise with the board – the GB were quite happy to publically have a go at our ex-chairman

    – with their upside down banner protest – so it’s hardly surprising that the board aren’t falling all over themselves to come to their aid

The club have made their position on songs very clear over decades. – going back to Mr Stein – football songs – yes Irish songs like the Fields – yes but Republican songs – no!

Like most on here I have sung all the songs and we all know that times have changed

Football grounds are not the place for such songs in 2013

On a similar theme – like a few on here I would guess – I attended GU in the 1970s

Being daft and young I went to the “Fred’s” and enjoyed the atmosphere of the Beer Bar

I don’t think people would see it that way today

The songs have to go and if they don’t want to stop then the GB – despite all their good points have to go

If they are inside the system then there would be very little that the Polis could do and the club would find it much harder to take action against them

    The decision is theirs

Most of you know I do not trust the board but on this occasion I can’t see that they can do much more than they have, they need the information from the GB to take this any further.

This will be a test of both sided resolve, the GB need to use and monitor how the board respond to their written complaints.

The only downside I can see is complainants being subjected to further harassment for complaining, the boards previous actions of banning supporters without notice does not instil trust, however I believe the fansagainstcriminalisation are the safe guard agains further similar incidents, the GB’s biggest problem is getting that age group to sit down and write a complaint.
