Coordination and confidence

Wee Oscar’s dad, Knoxy, asked me to relay this message to you……

“The BIG cycle to Belfast… WOW! What an absolutely incredible effort by so so many people all to raise money for our wee hero, and a great night was had by all on Saturday night up at Donegal Celtic. It is very very humbling and I really felt that my thanks conveyed to them all on Saturday night was just not enough. I know they didn’t do it for thanks or for a pat on the back but I really hope they know that both me and Leona are deeply deeply moved by what they have done.

Over the last 9 months we have thanked many hundreds of people for all sorts of different things they have done for Oscar and I’m sure after a while the thanking almost comes across a bit ‘rehearsed’ and maybe a bit insincere but we just want to make sure they all know how thankful we are to them and to the amazing people who have donated to such a whopping total!”

Fantastic work by all, very well done.

Celtic have conceded 16 goals in the 9 games since Efe Ambrose’ much debated return to the team which faced Juventus last month, a period which saw them eliminated from the Champions League and the League Cup, while losing to Motherwell and Ross County.

They conceded 16 goals in the previous 24 games, including two Champions League games against Barcelona, one against Benfica and one against Spartak Moscow.  A problem which initially appeared to be limited to Efe, has clearly affected others, including Kelvin Wilson and even the goalkeeper looks less assured than before.

More than any other facet of football, defending is dependent on confidence and teamwork.  If communication is poor, you make mistakes.  If you expect teammates to make mistakes, you’ll make decisions accordingly.  If your decisions reflect a lack of confidence, you’re on a slippery slope to losing goals.  Bad defenders look good in good teams but good defenders look hopeless once order is disturbed.

Only just catching up with the antics on Gallowgate on Saturday.  Not read about the destruction of property or occasions of assault, which I assume preceded the mass arrests.  Surely?  I’m not sure if Alex Salmond has renewed the high levels of police funding for football-related activity, which was initially due to expire at the end of this month, but for someone who is usually so politically savvy, he seems to have set off on a road without checking consequences of the legal questions.

A bit like his major project…..

Where we are today is a consequence of the First Minister’s initiatives in 2011, and is why Celtic fans, the Club, and many others, opposed the initiative at the time.  It’s playing out pretty much as everyone with an interest in football expected.  Mr Salmond’s Scotland is looking a bit like Mrs Thatcher’s Yorkshire, circa 1984.

You’re as well blaming the inclement weather as blaming the police or anyone in the game, the police, like the weather, do what they do. This is the work of the Other Charlotte Square Bogeyman.

TET, totally agree. Think we have lost. They will be back soon and our board will have the hand out to welcome them. Sad day when the huns are more welcome at Celtic Park than Celtic supporters.

This is part of Greens statement, he’s now offering a bribe!!

‘“My rationale is that when Rangers are promoted, the lowest league will return to where it was in terms of revenue generation. A Rangers Colts team would add value to the league and other clubs would see their home gates enhanced significantly by Rangers fans, particularly those who lived locally.

“I would also be prepared to guarantee other clubs the ticket revenue equivalent of 300 Rangers fans turning up for matches.

Chuckles shows his hand then. If this goes through and they get into the second tier when they should be in the third at best then that’s the final straw for me. My money will not be going into Scottish Football competitions as bent as this.

Have they been promised the enlish gravy train if they remove the Irishness from our club?

Why try to appease a country who hates our very existense and continues to cheat and treat us with disdain.

The SFA obviously believe the game is a bogey without The Rangers and unless this belief changes they will do everything possible to help CG secure their future.

Reconstruction has to be dropped until the full impact of Rangers liquidation runs its course. The toxicity from that event has to be drained before the game can move on.

  18. This is a massive issue for our club and bland statements will not fix anything. Where are our spokesmen, the supposed leaders of our support?

This is Celtic fans being treated like this?

They told us what they are doing “Smash the GB” and slowly but surely they are getting their way. The Banning orders mount up.

  19. Corporal Jones’s ” Don’t panic ” on the blog tonight.

Personally, I wish there was a legitimate chance of the vermin called Sevco skipping a league, but frankly there isn’t of course, and the sound bytes, are from a new club that

have realised that they can’t sustain themselves in the lower leagues.

If there was a cat in hell’s chance, they be allowed to cheat again, it would give us our get out of Scotland card, which is what Celtic should have been doing all along, and is the only just answer to the entire mess created by the fraudsters of Ibrokes.

  20. green is trying hard to sell a division jump, but no chairman in the lower league will bite because it means losing income, worst case there will be no new league structure this season, and they’ll get promoted, then two top 12 leagues will be introduced, they’ll enter the bottom league so they need another 2 promotions after this season. if they live that long

celtic dont need to do a thing because the sfl clubs will not allow sevco to be fast tracked.

  21. Glad the Board issued a Statement as at least it means they are aware of the general unease amongst the rank & file supporter. Obviously the Statement in itself is only a rehash of previous Statements and as such does little to alleviate the concern.

Celtic need to know that the Green Brigade are held in high regard by the majority of fans. IF and I am not totally convinced on this point but IF Lawell plans to eliminate the Green Brigade he will eliminate a lot of ordinary fans as well and attendances will continue to plummet. Every cause has an extreme element i.e. in this case The Green Brigade, this element are always vulnerable and can be easily disposed of. However as in many previous situations when this section get victimised the normal non militant support becomes radicalised and starts to rally to the cause. It is when the quiet peaceful man gets angry that you get a real revolution.

  22. StarryP/ fan-a-tic

    Aye, and it’s working.

I don’t agree with everything the GB do, but I also don’t agree with everything the board do, but both I believe, have the good of the club at heart.

Talk is good, and they sure need to talk.

I think there could be mileage in the Irishness thing, but if that is the reason, it will backfire bigtime.

We are known as an Irish Catholic club, whether we like it or not, the Irishness needs to be taken away from those who perceive us this way, that will never happen.

It’s the condoning of the cheating and corruption that bothers me.

Sort the referees, sort the problem.

  26. Doctor Whatfor on

Well, finally I’ve had enough. I’ was called a Fenian b****** within the hearing of a Glasgow police officer at an Orange order parade. When I looked at her she raised her eyebrows. I’m no hothouse plant and that wasn’t the first nor the fiftieth time that I had been so abused so I wiped my mouth and moved on. In my youth I was physically assaulted by a police officer for daring to speak to him with the politeness and courtesy that my parents imbued in me. A very good friend was given a right old fashioned street kicking by four, yes four, officers for asking, “What’s the problem here?”

I watched the Met police savagely and brutally attack working men who were trying to safeguard their families’ futures in the eighties. So far all I’ve done is bump my gums and the keys on a laptop.

Last Saturday a group of fellow citizens were harassed and treated disgracefully in my city by an organisation that seems to be out of control. That they did not have a licence to march is irrelevant to me. They were treated inhumanely and with no regard to their human rights. In my city. I’ve had enough.

Today I have written to my city councillors and demanded that they act on last Saturday’s events and to keep me informed of what they are doing about it and what the outcomes are. I would urge every Glasgow citizen to do the same.

I am also writing to the Glasgow members of the Scottish Parliament to do the same and to keep me informed. I would urge all Scots people to do the same.

It doesn’t seem like much but I will be like a dug with a bone and if we all do the same then these politicians will have to ask the questions of Strathclyde’s finest that we would wish to ask.

Chuckles now offering financial incentives to lower league teams in order to influence a league vote?

    Dangerous territory.

  28. It’s a spineless statement from Celtic. However it’s ok for me as it shows the club is supporting the campaign to eliminate the GB. The meetings mentioned on other Celtic internet sites where Peter Lawwell allegedly makes the statement “give them enough rope”.

Day by day the fans are understanding of Peter Lawwells part in this initiative. It’s a pity as he has done a fantastic job as CEO and is running Celtic from top to bottom. However aiding and abetting the criminalisation of innocent young Celtic fans is overshadows all Peter Lawwells great results. If the CEO wants to help why does he not take up the cases of the Gallowgate 13 ( in particular the young lad on YouTube video manhandled by 4 police officers as he is walking away ). Peter Lawwell has no intention of helping the victims.

The reason I am glad we know Peter Lawwells approach is that we are at a crossroads as a football club. Out of the approx 40k season ticket holders there about 10k – 15k at risk of not renewing for several reasons ( economic, spl standard…etc ). These attacks on Celtic fans will be a tipping point for many. It’s sad it comes to this as it’s the only language Peter Lawwell will understand.

I have 4 season tickets and discussed with my lads when I got back from St Paddys weekend in Malahide. We will not revew unless Peter Lawwell and the club take action and not measly meaningless statements. Many others will do the same….but may use the reasons above.

I spoke to a Dublin Celtic fan who drove me from Malahide to Howth to enjoy the Aqua restaurant . He comes over with his son for quite a few games. However he told me they will chuck it over the GB carry on. There’s about 10 of them travelling over together.

I know the happy clappers and those who believe Peter Lawwell is infallible will disagree …..but Celtic if they don’t take action will be playing the majority of SPL games in front of circa 25k next season.

I don’t believe the CEO will help the fans , so expect player sales to compensate as there JS no chance of Sevco being in the SPl next season.

I am glad we know where we stand…..as there is no emotion in a numbers game.
