Coordination and confidence

822

Wee Oscar’s dad, Knoxy, asked me to relay this message to you……

“The BIG cycle to Belfast… WOW! What an absolutely incredible effort by so so many people all to raise money for our wee hero, and a great night was had by all on Saturday night up at Donegal Celtic. It is very very humbling and I really felt that my thanks conveyed to them all on Saturday night was just not enough. I know they didn’t do it for thanks or for a pat on the back but I really hope they know that both me and Leona are deeply deeply moved by what they have done.

Over the last 9 months we have thanked many hundreds of people for all sorts of different things they have done for Oscar and I’m sure after a while the thanking almost comes across a bit ‘rehearsed’ and maybe a bit insincere but we just want to make sure they all know how thankful we are to them and to the amazing people who have donated to such a whopping total!”

Fantastic work by all, very well done.

Celtic have conceded 16 goals in the 9 games since Efe Ambrose’ much debated return to the team which faced Juventus last month, a period which saw them eliminated from the Champions League and the League Cup, while losing to Motherwell and Ross County.

They conceded 16 goals in the previous 24 games, including two Champions League games against Barcelona, one against Benfica and one against Spartak Moscow.  A problem which initially appeared to be limited to Efe, has clearly affected others, including Kelvin Wilson and even the goalkeeper looks less assured than before.

More than any other facet of football, defending is dependent on confidence and teamwork.  If communication is poor, you make mistakes.  If you expect teammates to make mistakes, you’ll make decisions accordingly.  If your decisions reflect a lack of confidence, you’re on a slippery slope to losing goals.  Bad defenders look good in good teams but good defenders look hopeless once order is disturbed.

Only just catching up with the antics on Gallowgate on Saturday.  Not read about the destruction of property or occasions of assault, which I assume preceded the mass arrests.  Surely?  I’m not sure if Alex Salmond has renewed the high levels of police funding for football-related activity, which was initially due to expire at the end of this month, but for someone who is usually so politically savvy, he seems to have set off on a road without checking consequences of the legal questions.

A bit like his major project…..

Where we are today is a consequence of the First Minister’s initiatives in 2011, and is why Celtic fans, the Club, and many others, opposed the initiative at the time.  It’s playing out pretty much as everyone with an interest in football expected.  Mr Salmond’s Scotland is looking a bit like Mrs Thatcher’s Yorkshire, circa 1984.

You’re as well blaming the inclement weather as blaming the police or anyone in the game, the police, like the weather, do what they do. This is the work of the Other Charlotte Square Bogeyman.

Well we have seen Green’s bribe to the lower tier so here’s the offer to the middle tier and one team in particular!

There has been no shortage of voices banging on about sporting integrity over the last year but sporting integrity must cut both ways. Should that be observed during reconstruction discussions then significant benefits would delivered, particularly to clubs in the middle tier who have yet to reap any financial benefit from Rangers playing in lower divisions.

“As we have seen recently many clubs are struggling and the likes of Dunfermline would be given a much-needed financial boost by Rangers playing in their division.

    roy,

never mind young fans i bet we all know fans who are not sure if they will renew or not next season, the criminalisation of the support and the clubs silence will make the decision ever easier for fans not to!

They treat us like customers yet the customer service absolutely stinks, the clubs statement tonight is an absolute affront to anyone in the know, or knows what is going on behind the scenes!

I appreciate your point. Mine is that the SFA allowed The Rangers to continue presumably on the back of financial assurances CG gave. I think they will have difficulty meeting the assurances unless they raise prices and cut costs.

They could justify neither if they stay where they are and so have to climb a tier. The last thing the SFA want is another administration event as even they could not withstand the outcry from an angry Rangers mob.

However whether they can sufficiently influence SFL clubs is as you say another matter.

As I posted earlier, he has killed his own argument. He said he wanted all of Scotland to benefit from Sevco’s support. Then said he wanted to jump over an entire division. One totally contradicts the other. Not for the first time with him mind.

  6. Sevco must be on shaky ground indeed if they are offering financial incentives to other clubs to move up the leagues…

  9. My mate and myself gave up our 2 Season Books the season before last as we were only traveling over 4 or 5 times a year and it was hard to justify the outlay on them. We had a chat after the Juventus game and were considering renewing them for next year but I can say for sure that under present circumstances I will not br buying a Season Book next year.

So Green in utter desperation to increase revenue, remember they are losing £250k per week, will bribe the lower tier by £4,500 per game (£15*300) and then offer the middle tier a quick cash cow. If none of this happens then they can not increase SB prices and will enter liquidation :o)

Just listened to the link from the CSA guy Stephen who resigned.

I’m now very worried about the link back to Peter Lawwell. I fear this could could damage our club badly.

If what the guy is saying is true and I’ve no reason to doubt him Lawwell must go, the head of security must go and the CSA must be disbanded and started again from scratch.

The Celtic support must unite against this.

  15. I think the statement from the club addresses the facts, the club are disturbed at the treatment of fans and asks those fans to report the issues to the club so the club can then raise these issues with Strathclyde Police. Without complaints from individuals involved the clubs hands are tied, give them ammunition.

They can hardly start a chant of ” if ye hate the Glesga Polis clap yer hands”

Official channels have to be adhered to.

If individuals give the Club the complaints and details they need and the Club fails to act, then they can be criticised, if that were to happen.

And for anyone still wondering where the impetus for the actions of Focus come from:

    http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=aiEMBR7uwek

This is political and is about how this “best wee country” salmonds Scotland if you like is viewed abroad, evening up the figures = this country isn’t sectarian.

A government loosing collated information about crimes of a sectarian nature my erchie, it takes a lot of effort to loose electronic data, and the raw data will still be available.

    Just my thoughts.

    Standing with the Green Bigrade.

  16. The clubs statement on Saturdays events is not strong enough. It feels like a rehash of an earlier statement and – after all the legal chatter on twitter yesterday- it feels like the club is reluctantly playing catch up.

You get the feeling the club would like the green brigade to disappear- though why remains a mystery. The stadium is a morgue without them.

  17. Stupidest statement of the 21st. Century so far.: “Putin is nicer than Merkel”

  19. Celtic fans can go abroad (Barcelona, Milan, Seville, you name it) in huge numbers and hardly a mentioned of trouble and in most cases – win, lose or draw – they are applauded by the authorities abroad and often by rival fans.

A relatively small crowd of Celtic fans (a few hundred?) plan a peaceful demonstration the few miles from Gallowgate to Celtic Park. Cue intense police activity resulting – predictably – in a number of arrests.

Frankly, it stinks to the high heavens.

Is this the backlash because the Govan lot are no more?

If they’re deid, they’ll take everything down with them, is that it?

I wish the club would take a strong stance on this, so far the statements have been pretty ambiguous. The longer it continues, the worse the sore will fester.

I agree with you on that one.

I had a spare SB on Saturday and swapped it with another bhoy so that his unemployed mate could go to the game with him(£28/29 for the game!) I left them my SB’s and said enjoy the GB, who are beside us, and join in the fun.

After about 5 mins from the start of the game I knew something was wrong.

  31. Very concerning times as aceltic fan after listening to stephen from csa..i think this could tear the club appart if wrongly handled..fans wont want to hurt the team or what the club means to us all..but it sound like we’ve been shafted by the ceo and the heads of the supporters clubs..where the fek do we go from here??back to the pre fergus days??

  32. I’ve been struggling all day to understand by so much police attention is given to the GB

I couldn’t come up with a rational answer

As for CFC ….I cannot understand why they are not supporting the section of the support that provide such entertainment on match days …do they forget the numerous tifos and their significant contribution to the match day experience

  33. I’ve posted here previously that I am a Celtic fan first and foremost. I am not an anti dead co fan. My love for Celtic extends way beyond any loathing I have for any team playing in Govan. Too many posters are mudding the waters here with obsessive discussion on an irrevelance. Many decent rank and file supporters, myself included, are starting to seriously question what our club is doing to protect the civil liberties of some of our support. Tonight’s statement is as inadequate response to this weekends events. Celtic, wake up and do not take our support for granted. Is it not sufficient that we are treated disportionately worse, than any collective group of people in Scotland. Your muted response merely condones it.

  34. I will be one of those who will be getting my SB for next season.

I seem to remember that the walk or march or whatever it was on Saturday was aimed not just at the police but also at our board. At least, that was what was suggested here beforehand. It seems that there are people among our support who want to take on the board for their own reasons. I remember after the AGM, there was an account of it put out on here which bore no resemblance to my experience of the occasion. Others said so too. I hope those politically driven (whatever their cause) don’t ruin the lives of some of our young supporters by their having a criminal record.
