125 kit and an SPL comparison

1030

A Hibs fan suggested to me on Twitter that as his team are wearing their home kit for next week’s Scottish Cup Final Celtic should take the opportunity to wear their 125th anniversary top. Despite there being 100 years precedent of Celtic and Hibs both wearing their home kits, recent rules (or perhaps customs) dictate that clubs are not permitted colour clashes.

That being the case, let’s take the opportunity to reach back to our founders and wear the anniversary kit.

Before that we have the small matter of Dundee United to play on Sunday. Celtic won the league by 20 points last season, 10 of which were gained after a competitor failed to come up with enough money to meet their commitments. Defeat at Tannadice could reduce this season’s winning margin to 10 points, in a season where everyone, even Hearts could afford to meet their commitments.

Who would’ve thought this SPL would be so competitive? Not me. More please.

Thanks for the excellent support for Willie Wallace’ autobiography. Orders in today from East Brisbane to West Didsbury and many places in between.

Looking forward to the Benfica v Chelsea game .

I hope the better team wins but also hope that Benfica are the better team . Benfica have lost 6 European finals. Last time they won one was in Amsterdam —hope that’s an omen..

I buy second hand 7 ” Jamaican choons from a Rastafarian Chelsea supporter.. A regular at the Bridge since the mid 60s . He paid £ 500 for 2 tickets for tonight’s game.

  3. SPL a competitive league this season!! emmm – not if one considers the frequency and inexplicable nature of some of our league performances this season. With all due respect to the other teams in the SPL the fact the gap is only ‘10’ points is down to individual player complacency and the teams PPP (p*sh poor performances) during a number of domestic games this season. It has little to do with the quality of the opposition and certainly nothing remotely described as a narrowing of the chasm that exists between Celtic and the rest of the SPL teams. I am sure that as Celtic supporters we all want a far more competitive and fairer league structure where we are regularly challenged for the title by Dundee Utd, Aberdeen and Hibs etc rather than scratching our heads at defeats and draws that have more to do with Celtics performance than the jaw dropping display of total football from the opposition team.

The points differential is less than that of last season but domestically have we (Celtic) been more competitive?

I’m all for the greater good of Scottish football but not when it sees our opponents narrow the gap as a consequence of our own negligence, profligacy and lack of application on the park.

By all means let’s make our game ‘better’ but it should be as a result of other club’s improvements.

I think Jabba should get his job at the BBC back.

On one condition – he reads out the ‘succulent lamb’ article live on air.

  9. lets get a campaign going to ditch the black and get us playing in the 125 strip for the final

  10. Nope, on two conditions, that he also admits to Chick Young that he is Sevco’s biggest cheerleader.

  11. HT, I might have missed the point, but I read from that that the league was more competitive, not Celtic. Have we faced real competition, no, but no less than last year.

Our lack of consistency may well be what our competitors need to give them some belief.

That belief may grow into real confidence and may well become real competition.

A redistribution of wealth, as is proposed will also help, one team not being favoured will help hugely.

That, I think, is a couple of years of, but we are facing a new reality, whether Sevco go the way of the Dodo or not, they are many years away from providing Falkirk with reveal competition, never mind us(Celtic). It therefore will fall to Dundee Utd, Hibs, Aberdeen et al to provide the competition, or we will be looking at 20-30 in a row.

I haven’t been to any of this season’s domestic games but the view from the lap top is —

It would be great if the SPL was truly competitive but the sad reality is that it isn’t. Some of this season’s performances have been absolutely dire . At times players have looked under motivated and complacent .. Crap pitches and mince officials haven’t helped.. Celtic humped St Johnstone last weekend —– St Johnstone were dire. . I watched that game with my in his 80s Inter supporting neighbor . At one point he asked me if St Johnstone were amateurs . I wasn’t sure he was kidding so gave him the truthful response —- No — Premier League players . A top 6 team — to which he replied —— You’re joking

  15. Matt Mc.Glone makes a good point.

@MattMcGlone9: The problem it would appear with the 125th anniversary strip is the Tennents logo can’t be seen & they want their final opportunity from it

  16. Fess19

I agree completely that there shouldn’t be a need but as it has been decided by someone that there will be a clash, neither side should get to wear home kits.

Agree about WGS on Tommy Burns. That moment sums up what a man Tommy Burns was and also what a great man WGS is.

    TTT,

why not have their logo/name in black (but still in the small letters!) on the 125th kit?

That wouldnt IMHO make too much of a detrimental impact on the strip itself and means we wouldnt have to wear the Black strip, which I have to admit Im not too big a fan of!

I believe it’s because Hibs were one of the first two teams to be pulled out for the semi draw and We were the 4th team to be pulled out therefore we are the ‘away’ team for both games.

  23. One problem -where does one aquire the 125 strip in an adult size. Some biff was trying to flog a couple of new with tags on Ebay recently for around 80 squid each. Celtic store, online, sold out of sizes for real men (mines a large one by the way – shirt that is)

I think Hibs get the choice of strips as they made the final ahead of us.

  25. interesting that the aul’ 125 Kit doesn’t have a swwoooossshhh!!!

Does that mean it’s not Nike?

On our inconsistent performance this Season I’m not going to criticize.

Last year I said the demise of the Rangers Football Club would mean that we could be more experimental, play the youngsters and keep our best players for the big games and Champions League.

While it hasn’t worked out exactly like that, mainly due to injuries I would suggest, it has afforded us opportunities that Lenny has taken.
