2 European Cups and 10 in a row

942

I may have told you this before, apologies if I’m repeating myself.  Around 20 years ago, in a TV studio minutes after a Rangers victory, a former captain, Terry Butcher (what ever happened to him?), told the audience, “David Murray will not stop until he’s won two European Cups and 10 in a row.”

Use of the personal term “he”, not the club name, struck me.  Murray was personally invested in this matter.  Such a burning desire did not make David Murray a bad person, he owned the dominant club in Glasgow, but the team he was dominating had all that glorious history.  If the boot was on the other foot, you’d want the same.  I would.

Perhaps if Jock Stein had stayed at Hibs, Celtic would have stayed in mediocrity, David Murray would have had a more affordable dream and the liquidation of his club would not have been necessary.

You know it’s true…….

On Tuesday’s STV report that Hearts manager, John McGlynn, said:

“How many fans would think they could win the league if Celtic weren’t in it at this stage? All [clubs’] fans would.

“That would cause great excitement and I think it would bring fans back to the game, at the lower clubs.

“If you look at the rest of us outside Rangers and Celtic, we’d all fill our stadiums if we thought we’d realistically have a chance of winning the league.”

There are screeds written and spoken about our game but the McGlynn Plan is the most productive comment I’ve read all year.  Well done to STV for the report, hopefully they will put the same questions to others in the league. This is the most important question for Scottish football right now.

It’s time for these clubs to throw off their downtrodden ways and genuinely compete for the Scottish title.

Still looking for a ticket for Celtic v Barcelona?   Equally keen to acquire a Wee Oscar wristband?  A CQN’er has very generously offered his ticket for next week to raise funds for the Wee Oscar Campaign.  You can bid for the ticket/wristband package on ebay.

Tell everyone who asks you for a ticket to bid on the auction.

  1. Southside, I have this nightmare that they’ll sack him, offer the position to Ally and he’ll accept saying he had to walk away as its the biggest gig in Scottish football….blah blah blah.

    Shudder.

  2. Name for independent Scotland:

    “The Scotland”?

Re Hitler and Catholicism – this might not add much to that discussion, but was Hitler not (latently) anti-Christian, influenced by his reading of “the Secret Doctrine” by Helena Blavatsky, who seemed to promote Luciferianism over Christianity (“Demon est Deus inversus” as well as the Aryan supreme race. Also a big influence of Crowley’s.

In other words, Hitler was quite possibly a fecking devil worshipper <:O

Would explain a lot – his interest in the occult is well enough publicised.

Is it worth pointing out that a number of high profile people are members of the society that follows that doctrine, although it prohibits them from associating their doctrine directly with their politics? Hmmm.

Er, anyway, 4-0 to the Tic on Sunday. Assuming Sammy won't be back in time for DU or Barca, will we see Tony Watt scoring in the next two games? Mibbes worth a wee double…

  3. Shout out to GCC Tim any other Bhoys and Ghirls in Bahrain. Had a drink with Paul and Andrew (Smiddy) a couple of days ago. Think the plan for Barca game is Ramada Hotel (a few minutes walk from JJ’s).

  4. I have said it before in here we should stop pointing out how bad Sally is.

The MSM eventually believe us in here.

So come on Bhoys, Super Sally can take this team back into Europe.

  5. MikeinToronto – Cheers Mike, i’ll be in touch soon; perhaps a wee dinner some night would be in order; i can go home and dump the car and take the subway; just in case i have a few tintos:) Area 412 is visiting in a few weeks, might be an excuse for a bhoys night oot???

PFayr – Hola amigo, you ability to shift the Guinness is legendary and although i have the occasional day in the sun (13 pints in McConnell’s before going to the savoy) i’m no longer in your league.

I thought i also caught a photo of you at the quiz night, which i do believe your team won or was close? Yer looking well young fella, seemed to be a very good night.

I’ll be home at some point next year and look forward to another night in the merchant city; this time i’m going for the jerseys; is EN available to ensure we have shvelt like beauties hovering aroon us???

I cant see a post you were referring to but can you help me out with where religion, hitler, devil worshippers and the occult come into Scottish Independance?

The argument over the SNP doesnt even come into it as much as folk go on never mind the stuff you mention.

Levein might not be the answer. Sally definately isn’t . We need him to steer the good ship sevco into the rocks.

  19. Murray is definitely to blame for Rangers being as good as dead and good luck to him. He wins my vote every time.

Murray took the most profitable team in British football with the most up-to-date stadium and still managed to run them into the ground well within 2 and a half decades.

In fact if you take it to the time when liquidation was first seen as a distinct possibility, it was around 14 years, and in 11 of those 14 seasons, Rangers won the league.

There’s a simple reason why Murray is the man, he managed to squander around £850 million and that is before the issue of EBTs. He exhausted every possible avenue in terms of milking the ‘Rangers brand’ be it the support, the 27,000 shareholders, large, very large and small besides, and other companies with more money than sense (at boardroom level).

From my point of view, the funny thing is, is that the Murray hacks did more damage to Rangers by writing so uncritically of him. Allowing him such leeway has effectively left tens of thousands of knuckle-draggers without a team, but is it really surprising that they would prefer to defend a middle class socialite than the punters who buy their papers and listen to their rabble on the radio no matter who loyal on the outside, they may be.

hitler wasn’t the only nazi practicing devil worshipping. Many senior nazis were heavily into it. Weekends of drunken debauchery, orgies of excess and drug abuse all in lucifers name.

One reporter on one of the more centre-left newspapers of time tried to investigate this aspect. He challenged one senior nazi party member, who was notorious for these excess, if he seriously believed that these immoral parties conjured the devil. “Who cares!” he replied.
