5 weeks ahead will define our season

230

In the next five weeks we play seven away games and only two at home (Ross County and Hearts).  If we beat Partick Thistle on Saturday, a tenth game will happen during this timeframe, making the series either seven or eight away from home in 10 games.

Apart from the final games in the series, in Copenhagen, the others all have a must-win look to them.  Thistle are struggling for form at the moment, so are unlikely to pose much of a threat, but we have two games on plastic – Kilmarnock and Hamilton – as well as trips to Motherwell and Aberdeen.

This is an exceptional load by any standards.  Getting it right during this period will define our season.

Disappointed to see Bayo has requested a loan move.

Klimala isn’t the finished article and Bayo should get a chance to show what he can do against Thistle

    =====

He’ll probably get a chance against Thistle, any loan move is unlikely to be completed before next week.

However, he has been here a year now and is not someone we can rely on (yet?) hence we are looking at other strikers.

It’d be great if he established himself here but we’ve a league to win and can’t hang around waiting.

The sensible thing to do would be to put Bayo and the Griff out on loan and give them game time and get an experienced 6 month loanee to give us Eddie, Bayo + 1 for the 6 months ahead. We can have a good look at both loanees for the rest of the season and be more informed about their future. They both need gametime.

    Eddie, Klimala + 1 …agreed

Or both Bayo and Griffiths to Dundee Utd on loan as part of a move for Shankland…

“The only difference this year (and last) is a Subjective, not an Objective, one.”

Beg to differ, old Chap. The objective difference between this season and others in recent years is that in those previous seasons we had considerable room to improve.

Last season, for example, we had dropped 18 points after 20 matches. This season we have dropped just 8 points at the same stage, yet the gap to our nearest challenger is closer.

Objectively, we have less room to improve and a smaller margin for error.

I understand Bayo has picked up some injuries since he’s been here. But when he has been given a chance to start games he’s looked good.

    I think he’s an asset.

Nobody will even loan Leigh Griffiths

He cannot be relied upon to be available for selection. Celtic either release him or keep him in the squad.

Maybe that means he starts against Thistle.

Read he was signing for Red Bulls new team in Brazilian top flight, just promoted from the second division. That was over a week ago though so not sure how this changes things.

  11. Bada,

I’d hope for 1 more coming in. The experienced one. Big, battering ram against packed defences type alternative.

Bayo needs game time. Leigh needs managed carefully (both for the service he’s given us and that terrible illness that blights him) so I’d hope we continue to do something that has his care in mind too. Tough one.

  12. Daily Record are reporting that the Brazilian CB we have been linked with Fabricio Bruno has been released from his contract.

He was in dispute with his club over unpaid wages.

I still haven’t seen an explanation of how we will get a work permit for a 23 year old with no senior or youth caps for Brazil.

  13. Big Bruno in Barzil – break-ins, court cases, multi-party ownership….

Feels like a disaster waiting to happen and we could do with the distractions. Go get Benkovic.

If at all possible we should retain the right to recall him but not many clubs will probably agree to that.

Maybe a few desperate clubs (eg. Hearts) or a few who are not under that much pressure (eg. Dundee Utd) but it raises the question of who would actually be interested in the player right now?

I don’t see any English Championship clubs being interested.

Talk of clubs in Holland or Switzerland – either that or back to Slovakia for 6 months.

Nobody will loan Leigh? Do you think?

He would automatically be the best striker at an SPFL team when loaned. Hard to tell if a stint with Hibs would be good or bad for him….tough one. Mental health is a dangerous and horrible animal. Think we have forgotten what he’s up against amidst the defeat against Der Hun….me included….

The Leigh Griffiths of 2013 to 2017 would automatically be the best striker outside of Glasgow.

The last three seasons have shown a bit of a downturn in form, physical health and mental health. (no doubt the three are linked)

If he were to go to Hibs, what Leigh Griffiths would they be getting?

Leigh has scored 2 goals this season. He will be on wages much higher than any player in the other 10 clubs.

Would Celtic have to pay the majority of his wages so he could play for Hibs?

  17. SC- not sure how much money mid table Brazilian clubs have, we could maybe offer him a better deal financially?

  18. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

Got to say I’m a bit bemused about the questions raised about LG, the times I’ve watched him in the bit parts he has played he he lacked only match sharpness. His touch let him down a couple of times but nothing more.

His free kick against the Hun that I see being criticised was exactly what he would have done before his layoff so no sure why this is being singled out as something that demonstrates a failure to regain his previous abilities.

As far as I’m concerned game time is all that’s lacking and like any other player including the new bhoy will need game time to get up to speed.

Same goes for Bayo, needs game time.

If Eddie maintains his fitness and we continue to play one up front then none will get game time until he is injured.

To to give any of our replacement forwards game time we need to be playing two up front and that does not look like happening soon so we won’t be seeing any improvement in any of them until they’ve had a few starts under their belt in Eddies absence.

Bayo’s wages will be beyond Scottish clubs. If we were to send him elsewhere we’d be picking up the majority of his wages.

Clubs from abroad sounds more promising.

I guess what it comes down to is that I rate Bayo. That’s rare amongst Celtic fans and I get the mick taken out of me by my mates for it.

  20. Canamalar- agree,we need to seriously consider 2 up front as well, specially on plastic pitches, where defences sit deep and little space in behind. As I said earlier, don’t see the point in loaning Bayo or LG out,we will need the 4 options till end of the season IMO

  21. Leigh Griffiths in my opinion must be kept.

    A goal machine when fit.

He has issues only he can sort.

Neil will understand this and hopefully get him right.

I know a couple of hibee mates who say he mixes with a few edinburgh bams that his life could do without!!.

A natural finisher that loves the club.

We don’t really have enough evidence to judge him either way but it comes down to the fact he can’t be relied on right now because he appears injury prone AND we are unsure if he fits the bill when he is fit.

But still only 23, so a loan move could let us evaluate him further.

  25. Daily Rag saying Soro playing his final match in Israel tonight before his Celtic move. Cant trust any of these sources but I hope they are right on this one. From the clips available he looks like exactly what we need in midfield.

  26. Corky

    He looks a good ‘un.

I’d still go for big Vic and rehabilitate Kouassi and play the 3 of them at Ibrox in March. Then watch the huns try to bully that midfield…..

  27. Share Price theorists will have a ball, price down again today but its again just a handful of very small transactions, Obviously no buyers so any guys selling a few shares have to take a hit if they want to sell.

  28. Griffiths needs to be moved on . The last time that he was first choice when all other centre forwards were available was when Ronny was in charge . Think about that for a minute.
