50 ways to leave your Legia

262

If there are 50 ways to leave your Legia, Josip Juranovic surely picked the best.  In their Europa League qualifier against Slavia last night, he took a high clearance out of his own box, controlled with his first touch, ran 50 yards against a retreating Slavia defence, before pinging a 25-yard shot into the postage stamp corner (kids, ask someone).  He is an absolute baller (ask a kid).

If the deal completes (you’ve been here long enough to know nothing is done until it’s done), we will recruit a player who adds quality to the first team.

After climbing such a peak on Wednesday, our collective nerves probably extend no further than St Mirren at home tomorrow.  The visitors drew at Dundee on the opening day of the season and lost to Hearts last time out.  I know you’re thinking, so what?, but they are the only team to take a point away from the city of Dundee all season, and we also lost to Hearts.  Although, I suppose, there has only been one other visitor to either United or Dundee this season, and they have their own nervous condition to worry about.

You cannot ask teams to climb the mountain every game, people do not work that way.  After a big result, energy levels often crash.  Think beating reigning European champions, Milan in 2008, then being a goal down 87 minutes into facing Gretna at Motherwell next time out.

Let’s get the job done early and rest as many limbs and minds as possible.

  6. A good Catholic boy ,a left sided CH,capped for Croatia, before injury rated as being the best defender at his club. Now it seems, will be up for transfer,at a knock down price.

If only Katic was not playing for the Huns.

  7. TURKEYBHOY – A couple of months ago few would have been surprised if the top tier of the stadium had been closed for the season such was the state we were in.

Kudos to Dom, Ange and the players for the miraculous turnaround.

Genuinely feel we can win the league this season.

  8. NORRIEM – would cost us money but but would be a good move. Nesbitt would need to be willing to be a sub most games which won’t appeal to him (I am assuming Abada, Kyogo and JF are the preferred attacking three and that Edouard will be sold and Ajeti is nowhere in the mngr’s mind).

    Exciting times

  13. ‘Fishul announcement right enuff!

Celtic Football Club is delighted to announce that it has reached agreement with Legia Warsaw for the transfer of Croatian defender Josip Juranovic, subject to the satisfaction of usual conditions and international clearance. On satisfaction and gaining clearance, Josip will sign on a five-year deal.

As well as playing with Legia Warsaw, Josip also played for a number of seasons with Hajduk Split in Croatia.

He will be the eighth new signing to join our first team squad in the current window, following Osaze Urhoghide, Liam Shaw, Liel Abada, Joe Hart, James McCarthy, Carl Starfelt and Kyogo Furuhashi.

Josip is due to join up with his new team-mates at Celtic early in the coming week.

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou said: “We are absolutely delighted to be bringing Josip to the Club and we are sure he will be a great addition to the squad.

“As I have said before, everyone at the club has been working hard to add to our squad and we have made good progress. I am really pleased to bring Josip in to support the rest of the boys.

“We have so many challenges ahead of us and Josip will add important quality and depth. I am really looking forward to working with him.”

  14. On the subject of Orange Walks and the seemingly powerless state of authority to sweep this annual ‘hatefest’ off our streets.

My parents’ families were all Irish stock from Govan and the stories that we heard when we were young of the triumphalism, voilence & bigotry that was normal practice there at that time shocked us all. We all thought as kids that it would ‘die a death’ over time and that the population, with better access to education, would become more tolerant eventually. That, as we all know, was a forlorn hope – the actions around the siege of George Square showed that the ’cause’ is “alive & kicking’ & now in the hands of a new generation every bit as motivated as any of the previous.

In the now admittedly extremely unlikely even of an independent Scotland, this disgruntled section of the population will seek to incorporate a political aspect into their core beliefs and we, an 800k minority, will be faced with a bigger enemy in a much smaller pool.

This parading of hatred has been indulged, with police escort and thug ‘stewards’, for over one hundred years – it will not stop anytime soon.

I don’t think the SNP fare any better or worse than Scottish Labour, who after all set up a parades board to facilitate and thereby condone a problem.

The ‘disgruntled’ you refer have become more disgruntled because of a variety of historical facts. The peace process and good Friday agreement in Northern Ireland and latterly Brexit being examples of what sets off the orange problem.

They are hard at work in Govan aligning their supporters to all things orange and have been since their original club died in 2012. They’ve played the orange card, and the real problem is not the SNP but those in power in the blue and orange room.

The walks won’t stop anytime under any government, the biggest threat comes from within their own kind, like walking to George Square with no one to be disgruntled with, other than themselves.
