50 ways to leave your Legia

262

If there are 50 ways to leave your Legia, Josip Juranovic surely picked the best.  In their Europa League qualifier against Slavia last night, he took a high clearance out of his own box, controlled with his first touch, ran 50 yards against a retreating Slavia defence, before pinging a 25-yard shot into the postage stamp corner (kids, ask someone).  He is an absolute baller (ask a kid).

If the deal completes (you’ve been here long enough to know nothing is done until it’s done), we will recruit a player who adds quality to the first team.

After climbing such a peak on Wednesday, our collective nerves probably extend no further than St Mirren at home tomorrow.  The visitors drew at Dundee on the opening day of the season and lost to Hearts last time out.  I know you’re thinking, so what?, but they are the only team to take a point away from the city of Dundee all season, and we also lost to Hearts.  Although, I suppose, there has only been one other visitor to either United or Dundee this season, and they have their own nervous condition to worry about.

You cannot ask teams to climb the mountain every game, people do not work that way.  After a big result, energy levels often crash.  Think beating reigning European champions, Milan in 2008, then being a goal down 87 minutes into facing Gretna at Motherwell next time out.

Let’s get the job done early and rest as many limbs and minds as possible.

“However he was an upper middle class voyeur of urban poverty.”

When you use the word voyeur it suggests his interest in how the poor lived was inauthentic, illegitimate.

A bit harsh, man. He couldn’t escape his class but his democratic socialism was genuine. Perhaps he felt at a gut level the need to learn how others of a different class lived partly so he could advocate for them in his writing or at least not feel so alien from them. He also liked to put himself in difficult circumstances, perhaps out of guilt or perhaps just because he liked to challenge himself.

Interesting George Orwell discussion between Mad & Ernie.

    (Please keep it going gents)

I am often quite fascinated by, and (in truth) admiring of, anyone from an upper class or (by mores, not bank balance) upper middle class background who develops a social conscience …..

…. given there is rarely anything in their “operating environment” to encourage it.

Fair point — observer vs voyeur — discuss ?!?

I still have issues with his dipping in and out of the lives of the urban poor.

Plus he seems to spend more time fighting with the Stalinists / Russian Nationalists in the Kremlin than the useless upper class Empire builders locally or the Nazis / Fascists across the channel.

Fair enough that the Republican side in Spain seems to have been a zoo of competing interests but he spends more time describing how progress will taint rather than pulling down the walls of conservatism / reaction that surround him.

    Worth a watching.

    Worth a read.

Sorry to burst your bubble but Franco only won in the first chapter.

There are 3 chapters in the post and it is all to play for going into the 5th.

Not sure if this a Kondratieff Wave but we are coming round to full circle after 90 years.

Identity politics is the only game in town at the moment.

Fascism has already budded and Nazism is on its way.

We are in trouble big time.

  8. In terms of our Superbru fundraising, I should be able to donate £1000 to our chosen charity, Sean’s Trust and that will leave around £500, possibly a bit more (some donations still coming through) for Prize Money. I am looking at £150 divided between the top 3 at the end of December (say £80, £45 and £25) and £350 (or more) divided amongst the final top 3 (say £250, £125 and £75). Let me know if you think this is a fair split before I finalise it.

And once again, thank you all for your donations

Meant to post this a few days ago

I enjoyed the snippets I heard of the Guy Mowbray commentary from Thursday.

OK – he wasn’t au fait with a few of the crowd specials, but he’ll learn.

And he came across as genuinely enjoying it (during and after the match).

IMHO, seasoned commentator pros add value to the Celtic TV production and are worth their fee.

There is an art to club TV commentating – the need to be measured and reasonable while obviously being partial to your client.

    Fine line stuff.

    Guy Mowbray does this well.

Contrast with that rabid, jingoistic idiot Sevco employ?

We’ve all had the misfortune of Knob McLean commentating on our games, you know how he’s constantly wishing the opposition score, last night he was on Red TV commentating away as if it was with one of his pals, compare and contrast, I wonder why he hates us so much ?

GM class commentary is the future for CTV.

No more fans with a microphone nonsense.

Might be a example of how DMcK wants to take the club.

Real professionalism rather than cheap favours to old pals.

Interesting to see if CTV kicks on this year.

Showing the Colts games / Ladies games would increase the viewing figures.

Plus out first attempts at PPV must have brought in some money.

Then there is the youths and the age groups.

    Every little helps.

  21. Glasgow leader Susan Aitken has said the council hasn’t “much power “ over Orange walks in the city.

The council leader made the comment on Twitter after responding to a critical remark over 34 Orange parades occurring in one day.

The marches will take place on September 18 in Glasgow.

Langside Councillor Aitken said: “Not something the council has much power to prevent, I’m afraid. It’s a common misconception that the council gives ‘permission’ for processions: the law requires us to facilitate those notified to us.”

Fury erupted online over the large number of walks happening at once with questions raised about pressure on policing.

Thousands are expected to take part and road closures are likely.

The County Grand Orange Lodge of Scotland has organised the event, which commemorates the 1690 Battle of the Boyne.

Groups will march different routes in the city during the day and make their way through streets to Glasgow Green.

A County Grand Orange Lodge of Scotland colour party is due to start at John Knox Street in the morning and proceed to George Square before making its way to Glasgow Green.

An event listing online asked people not to follow the bands and adhere to Covid-19 regulations.

The coronavirus pandemic has seen loyalist marches cancelled due to restrictions on large gatherings.

But public processions are now allowed again as regulations ease.
