50 ways to leave your Legia

262

If there are 50 ways to leave your Legia, Josip Juranovic surely picked the best.  In their Europa League qualifier against Slavia last night, he took a high clearance out of his own box, controlled with his first touch, ran 50 yards against a retreating Slavia defence, before pinging a 25-yard shot into the postage stamp corner (kids, ask someone).  He is an absolute baller (ask a kid).

If the deal completes (you’ve been here long enough to know nothing is done until it’s done), we will recruit a player who adds quality to the first team.

After climbing such a peak on Wednesday, our collective nerves probably extend no further than St Mirren at home tomorrow.  The visitors drew at Dundee on the opening day of the season and lost to Hearts last time out.  I know you’re thinking, so what?, but they are the only team to take a point away from the city of Dundee all season, and we also lost to Hearts.  Although, I suppose, there has only been one other visitor to either United or Dundee this season, and they have their own nervous condition to worry about.

You cannot ask teams to climb the mountain every game, people do not work that way.  After a big result, energy levels often crash.  Think beating reigning European champions, Milan in 2008, then being a goal down 87 minutes into facing Gretna at Motherwell next time out.

Let’s get the job done early and rest as many limbs and minds as possible.

  1. Great piece on Bobby Lennox on Sentinel Celts – enjoyed reading it immensely.

The following paragraph says it all about the Scotland national team and the SFA at the time.li

“Bobby says it surprises him, still to this day why so many Lisbon Lions got so few Scotland caps. “I would still like to think I deserved more than the 10 caps I got, scoring three goals in six wins, three draws and only one defeat. It wasn’t a bad record but maybe I was a victim of the times.” Personally I think the Lions were all victims, and treated with contempt by the Scottish FA”.

Bobby, Bobby Murdoch, Jinky, Big Billy & John Clark all received a ridiculously small number of caps, their Ibrox counterparts were always a ‘shoo in’.

The only thing that has changed is ‘they’ have next to no eligible Scottish players and we have quite a few….otherwise nothing would have changed. I, and many Tims like me, gave up on rolling-up to Hampden only to hear our players abused when they touched the ball, or, came on as substitutes.

Celtic as a club are still treated with “contempt” by the SFA/SPFL (Covid a recent prime example) as the Ibrox influence is again growing on the back of their new club winning one trophy in ten years.

  2. NO Celtic supporters at Ipox next week….

The Huns have decided that our 700 fans wont be there after all, despite tickets being printed and sent to Celtic.

Huns are attempting to ” BLAME” Celtic FC, as Celtic couldnt gaurntee that the Manki9e Hun fans would be allowed into Celtic Park for the next game….BUT Celtic have argued that NO ONE KNOWS what the Covid situation will be for the next Celtic v Hun game ?

Fair enough that the Republican side in Spain seems to have been a zoo of competing interests but he spends more time describing how progress will taint rather than pulling down the walls of conservatism / reaction that surround him.’

Suggests your reading of Orwell is neither comprehensive nor balanced.

  4. There will be at 4 Sevco supporters at the Celtic Park game, the match officials, 4 that matter and can effect the outcome.

I’m surprised the Huns haven’t banned the home supporters as they have been playing rubbish since they were allowed back in

Decent Op Ed with background facts provided.

    Typical Sevco pettiness and parochialism.

Celtic’s inability to provide assurances is legitimate.

Sevco don’t do anything on trust.

    (with us or anyone else)

That approach fits just fine with the company culture.

Scenarios such as this are an opportunity to tell their hordes …

“Look. We stuck two fingers up at stakeholder X on your behalf. Don’tcha luv us !!!”

    Absolutely pathetic corporate behaviour.

I’m reminded of a contemporary quote about one of the most flawed individuals ever to hold a position of power – King John of England ….

Direction of travel — his focus on the Stalinists allowed the tripe of AR and her fellow neo right wing myth makers to gain a hold in post war world and look how that nonsense lords over us today.

He was as you say a critic of fascism back in the day but you have to ask what he would have done to stop the spread of fascism / nazism if he was a loud voice against rearmament until well beyond Munich?

Unbelievable — or is it? — that he would have spent time fighting in the Spanish Civil War against the fascists / nazis in a national conflict far far away from his green and pleasant land but was against the country taking steps to re-arm itself for its own defence in any coming continental conflict

Never look a gift author in the mouth — GO and his distressed gentle folk outlook on progressive politics from a fractured upper middle class background was a positive towards the post WW2 rebuilding of the country.

He had introduced the plight of the working and non-working classes to the metropolitan movers and shakers so that was and is a big plus — even if his picture of their world was done in crayon and his inability to engage with them was passed off as a seemingly empty life on their part rather than his inability to converse with them as equals and understand the complexity of their existence that it actually was.

However I fear that old age would have convinced him to follow the well trodden path towards a reactionary retirement. At the age of 76 — if he had made it to that ripe old age — I would suggest that he would have been a booster for Maggie.

GO — interesting guy or tortured soul — take your pick.

For me — his beatification will have to wait.

  9. No Tims in Ibrox ?

    Slippy gets his way.

He was terrified by the noise, energy and joy from the Celtic fans.

That and his instilling in the hun, the art of the dive, are his achievements at the bigotdome so far.

Apart of course, last seasons league, wrapped and presented by an incompetent Celtic management team.

  10. One last thing – continuing Paul’s 50 ways – how about this extract?

“Just drop off the key, Leigh

    And get yourself a free”

I don’t see how Orwell’s focus on Stalin (as bad as Hitler and defended by morons on the left long after it was apparent how awful he was) ‘allowed’ Rand’s world view to take hold. That statement doesn’t make any sense whatsoever.

  13. FT @ 6.20

The fact that you think Stalinist Russia was as bad as nazi Germany would suggest that AR and here fellow mentalists have had too much influence on public opinion for far too long.

And you have to ask why?

  14. MADMITCH on 20TH AUGUST 2021 6:35 PM

Haha, so you were one of those idiots defending stalin even after you’d discovered he’d starved millions of his own people to death!

    That actually explains a lot.

  15. MadMitch,

No sooner has Ralston won over the Celtic support and you tell us he’s had too much influence over public opinion!

Absolutely nowhere so you are havering and well as being misguided.

Our AR is a RB not a RW.

He might put in more crosses that our RW — a certain JF of some notoriety — but he is not a RW.

The AR mentioned as a writer of right wing fairy stories — was a hypocritical slapper back in the day.

I see the manager has said Dembele has a long term injury. That really was a shocking tackle, particularly for a pre season game. A real shame.

  20. lets all do the huddle on

the raith rovers chap being interviewed on bbc said one of the issues with the power cut was that the ticketing system depends on wifi so that was also down

i can only assume our ticketing system doesnt depend on wifi because its is worse than it ever was in the ground, and it was never great. cant get it at all in my area these days.

Watched the AZ game back and my take from the re run is that .

For a euro tie it was a great match team wise ,both teams played a positive game looking to go forward as best they could.

some great passing football on show and plenty to keep the paying customer happy ,

The game could have gone either way but the famous took their chances and got their rewards .

Going to be a real test of the bhoys resolve in the away tie but it’s the only way for the team to learn and grow .

Oh and one last thing ,if sevco had been up against AZ they would have been applying for administration

    by now

    C’mon the hoooooooooooooops
