A case to answer for SFA and Celtic

1175

Referee Steven McLean saw the incident when Josh Meekings stopped a Leigh Griffiths header crossing the line with his hand.  He was 12 yards away with an unobstructed view.  The blame for getting the decision wrong is entirely his.

We can only speculate as to why he didn’t award a penalty.  At best, McLean didn’t believe the evidence of his own eyes and passed the buck to his assistant Alan Muir, who was around 6 yards from the action but with a less-clear view.

Muir did not see Meekings clear the ball legally.  If he was distracted, and failed to see what happened clearly enough, he should have informed the referee.  If Muir told the referee anything else, this is also a failing.

The SFA have a case to answer. Not fit and proper, to use their parlance.

Notwithstanding the fact that if the rules of the game were followed Celtic would be in the cup final right now, they are out because they failed to deal appropriately with the known qualities of Inverness.

Three goals were lost, all of which were defensive mistakes.  A break downfield which caught the defence cold, a cross from the right which was not properly contested with all defenders in position, and a failure to match a back post run (similar to a recent League Cup final goal conceded to Kilmarnock).  Fatigue may have contributed to the final goal but being down to 10 men was not a contributing factor for the first two.

The game should have been won in the first half but we opened the second period off-pace.

Another matter which should be on the agenda at Lennonxtown today is why didn’t we have the right studs on?

It should be someone’s job to make a decision after the team arrives at a ground on which studs to wear.  If the decision was made, the decision was wrong.  If this process was not followed, it should have been.  Either way there is also a case to answer internally.

Do they not receive approx £900 per game?

Beaton had our game Wednesday then cup semi on Saturday

This is their 2nd job, they make more than some of the players

Maybe as it’s their 2nd job they should be on minimum wage eh

The problem you have is you fixate on things and end up so polarised every topic has to end like a journey at your terminus.

Now that might be “institutionally sectarian” or “stop supporting Celtic”…

But it’s funny watching you pigeonhole things into your agenda.

    Do you use a template?

McLean looked really angry in his ‘debates’ with our players. He reminded me of Davidson from Airdrie. He knew, we all knew what he had done and he was lashing out. Davidson was the same and Jock Stein wasn’t slow in telling him.

It looks like Alan Muir is going to be this year`s Steven Craven.

Offered up as the sacrificial (succulent) lamb in order to save the skin of Steven McLean and the SFA`s refereeing system.

It was not Muir who was inconsistent with the advantage rule yesterday throughout the game, calling the play back for fouls when Celtic had an advantage and letting play continue when we had no advantage.

Nor was it Muir who allowed Marley Watkins to foul with impunity all game long, or who allowed two more Inverness players to commit blatant hand balls, including the forward Ofere who punched the ball towards the Celtic goal in the 2nd half with no foul called by the ref.

McLean has always been one for the watching. The SFA will protect him like they tried with “Dougie, Dougie” but even if that fails they have Son of Dallas ready to take McLean`s place.

This time two years for now you can substitute Inverness for Kilmarnock, Aberdeen, Dundee etc and we`ll be moaning about the same honest mistakes being delivered by a different referee but by the same corrupt system and blazerrati.

    Evening everyone.

Not sure what to make of the game as I didn’t see it. Celtic have to improve the side. Everything else is a sideshow. Our record against Inverness has been inept.

Celtic fans won’t boycott anything. Some of our support will understandably always follow the side. It is a waste of time mentioning it.

  11. Here we go, Kenny Clark on Sportsound.

    It’s all about angles

TV doesn’t confirm McLean saw it

Muir on wrong side and couldn’t see it

Are people suggesting McLean saw it and didn’t give it

Not a fan of Juventus but they undoubtedly have a huge support. Met another one here in Russia the other day. It happens often.

  13. Joe Filippis Haircut on

Im sorry bhoys the game has gone we lost Celtic write looking for explanations well until the support act in unity and vote with there feet nothing will happen. When are the support likely to act in unity ? in my opinion never and the honest mistakes will continue to happen. We can come on to CQN and moan and groan at each other that is all we can do but the rest of Scottish football say we are paranoid. H.H.

changing topics for a wee while …..

lost in the charge for the treble/cheating, etc…. is the fact that, after a brief spell when SA and GMS were introduced to the team, our play has once again started to become more ponderous again, and that energy and cutting edge we were developing has been waning ….

we are definitely better at the back (although I am not a huge fan of AM or EI … think both are too small), and we are better at moving the ball to the midfield more quickly (instead of bypassing the middle, and just humping the ball forward from defence) …. but once we get to the around 30 yards from goal, we seem to slow down too much, and struggle to break down defences ….

SA and GMS seemed to add quite a bit of drive from the middle, but of late, we seem to be losing that again …even NB isn’t ticking along quite as smoothly of late …

not sure what the solution is …. willing to listen to any thoughts on the matter.

  20. !!Bada Bing!! on

Stuart Dougal must be on holiday, or at some Masonic Club regaling in tales of keeping the pesky Tims down…….allegedly…..

  21. bournesouprecipe

And they’ll line up to defend them as they always do. Davie Hay was correct after the League cup final many years ago when he said we should play in the League of Ireland. Incompetence is bad enough but this was different.

Spot on, McLean just couldn’t give it, he didn’t have it in him.

  22. Dallas still has his imprint on our referees – their attitude towards the players, the school master approach. btw , i’m ranting today – i don’t really care about trebles , trophies to the point it affects my moods – i care about fairness!! i don’t care if we win lose or draw , as long as its fair (and i include our fair share of good/bad decisions in there). But there is a clear hatred / jealousy of celtic throughout the SFA and it can easily be fixed!

  24. Celtic are ‘cheated’ and we change it by, er, depriving Celtic of money and punishing the club we purport to support (then probably coming on here and moaning about Celtic not spending money in the transfer market). Brilliant!!!!

I have read this blog for a few years, posted occasionally, and must say the level of discussion and the quality of the posts is nowhere near where it used to be. I used to come on and learn something, even if it were to see something from a different point of view – that is now long gone. The consensus view on here now is pretty much just one of constant whinging. From now on, I will just stick to getting my Celtic news from Twitter where I can choose who I follow. I do appreciate that noone else will really care about this, which is fair enough

Noone will really care about my parting advice either, but i will offer it anyway – see all those posters who spend morning, noon and night moaning on here about what other people are or arent doing, gonnae give the other posters some peace. If you feel that strongly – which you clearly do – why not get up off your hacienda and do something to try to fix it instead of coming on here every day (win, draw or loss) and depressing everyone

    Adios

Apparently Chick Young seems to have been in the Celtic dressing room at half time. He seems to KNOW that the Celtic players were “dwelling on” the incident.

  27. my take on the semi-final–no1-blatent cheating by the ref and the goal linesman, utter shocking;a blind man in the dark would have seen it was a penalty!..no 2–need new better defensive full backs-Matthews very poor -izzy ok going forward but gets caught out to often; no 3 we need a strong bustling striker as leigh has pace not tough enough and guidetti ;ok but will he stay [doubt it].just hope we don’t blow it in the league now .beat the 2 Dundee,s and should be okay.a well had to get that of my chest as they say
