SeanP. You are 100% correct. I have long held a similar view. Goals, hitting the post, messing up a good goal scoring opportunity, good goalkeeping, poor goalkeeping
These are the vital things that decide matches. In our great win against Barca how many great stops did Forster make. De Vries made a couple of great saves yesterday, he was brutal against Zenith.
Obviously if you play well, you will create more chances & keep your opponents chances to a minimum, so on the law of averages, if you play well you win and if you play badly you lose.
However there are those days when it just doesn’t happen in front of goal, or the opposing Keeper has a blinder or your Keeper has a Mare.
When that happens you just have to suck it up & move on

head injuries
the ajer incident was a clear head injury and play should have been stopped immediately.
on Saturday there was a couple of players coming together as a result vale broke and had a 3 to 2 situation as we approached the penalty area – the ref blew up as he spotted an away player down holding his head. the player was at it as there was no clash of heads and the player quickly recovered. to make matters worse instead of a bounce ball outside the area where play was stopped the ref decided to drop it to the goalkeeper – much to the annoyance of the vale players and fans.

I have said the same thing in the past.
Ten chances created, one taken against an opposition with two chances , both taken = 1-2 defeat and a dreadful performance.Apparently.
Three chances created, two taken, opposition miss their two = 2-0 victory and a very good, or, at least , solid performance. apparently.

Great News that Broony has decided to focus entirely on Celtic.
Considering the vile abuse he takes at every single away ground in the country, its a great tribute to him that he stuck at it for so long.

I do suspect that the world class media coverage Celtic receives in this country also plays a part in how some fans perceive some performances. It does amaze me how often both in victory and defeat I read comments that are almost a quote from the hacks columns in the mornings papers.
On a separate note, not sure if you have been following or not but what a start to the season City have had #uptherebels

Docherty, Wallace, Murphy, Dorrans, Cummins and Jack
Of course I have been following Cork City, Sean. What has pleased me most is that Dundalk have started with 2 draws,
Their first game is a perfect example of what you are talking about. They played Bray off the Park, totally dominated game but couldn’t put the ball in the net.
Anyhow my Golf game is off for the day, ground frozen. Maybe just as well as I’m wearing a Blood Pressure Monitor for the day and under Murphy’s Law the bloody thing was likely to start just as I’d be taking a 3ft putt.
So it’s off to the local Coffee Shop for me, One of the old gits hanging about for an hour reading the papers over one Cup of Coffee.

If I am being honest I will hold my hands up and say I have always been impressed by Broony’s energy and drive but in his earlier days at Celtic I was a little critical of his ill-discipline and probably even more critical of his use of the ball at times. In the past 3 years in particular however the maturity he has shown as a footballer both on and off the ball is remarkable don’t think there is another player in this country even in the same stratosphere when it comes to POTY recognition.

Scott did not make a good impression in those early days at the club and he was also plagued by a succession of injury problems which did not help. But he has gone on to be a spectacular success as a player and I nearly dread the day when he hangs up the boots.
No sarcasm, that was my criticism of him before but since he’s dropped deeper his drive and enthusiasm for the game now has matured in him and without him we often look rudderless.
As he showed yesterday there’s no one in the game can touch him really, talk of John McGinn owning him was in my opinion a little over the top as we saw the next time the teams met.

Last week, I posted a copy of a letter I sent to the SFA regarding McLean’s performance as a referee at Celtic Park a few days previously. In it I quoted a statement from UEFA by Pierluigi Collina, “We need players playing, so they must be protected. We do not want situations where a player’s future is put in doubt because of serious injury caused by a challenge, whether it is intentional, or is unintentional and the player making the challenge is taking a risk of causing injury. Players must understand that they have to respect their opponents and show positive behaviour to them that they would want to receive themselves.”
I presume the same goes for referees that they also must respect players and protect them from “serious injury caused by a challenge”. Perhaps the SFA did not convey these comments to Scottish referees or perhaps, like Madden, they will ignore them when it comes to Celtic players with head injuries, etc.
Last week, my post was ignored on here. This week people are rightly up in arms about Ayer’s situation. It was obviously considered serious in the dugout because the Celtic Doctor was on the pitch immediately along with the Physio.
I will write to Peter Lawwell asking what the club intend to do about Madden’s action yesterday. Others should do so. It is not enough to say that nothing will be done. This certainly will be the case if nobody complains.
