  1. BIG-CUP-WINNERS

I no expert on tactics but I think the “one striker” issue is a bit of a red herring, it’s the lack of movement and use of space from the three that seems to be letting the system down.

Ciftci came on yesterday and started dragging defenders around but no one seemed to be able to use the space he created, just as to what SJ and GMS did the whole day was a mystery to me:)))

Playing two strikers doesn’t change the lack of movement from the midfield, when was the last time you saw any of our midfielders arriving in the box to get on the end of something or using the space created by the front man??

  2. Cork-Celt I’m afraid to be the bearer of bad & sad news but the way it is @ present is like

the B side to the song entitled things can only get better well @ present as far as the

dressing room & RD’s genus tactical selections the record is playing things can only get

worse & needs sorted/addressed pronto/asap or things will get worse.

As for our Club’s player signing’s which certainly leave a lot to desire methods apart from

the obvious “Future Prospects” we also seem to be signing players who are surplus to

requirement from other Club’s Blackett on Loan, thanks but no thanks.

Another waist of space & effort you would have thought the Club would have learned

it’s lesson from last year as regards to loans & then genus RD only lets one of the so

called loans to slip through his fingers by not playing him only for the same lone

player to come back & kick him in the knackers via the Malmo fiasco

Who’s in charge of thorough player research @ CP because the present set-up is a

    dog’s dinner a bloody mess

BIG-CUP-WINNERS. As you well know we won the League and the League cup in Ronnys first season this season he has got us into the Europa league and we have only had one league defeat. Now considering the quality of the two Centre Backs we have lost for me thats not to shabby. If as is rumoured there are players in the dressing room causing disharmony they have to toe the line or be moved on the manager must allowed to manage the sack Ronny brigade dont have a clue to who they would bring in to replace him. H.H.

Snub the door. Then when he knocks on the window to get in,shout-‘Do you not know when you’re locked out?!’

TM,my Mum thirty-odd years ago. And probably again next month…

  5. When Ronny Deila took over last summer a lot was made of his preferred style of play being a high tempo, pressing game in a 433 formation.

After a poor start we started to see the tempo increase and the closing down of the opposition high up the pitch in their half. He went with a 4231 formation and it worked. Johansen was the catalyst with his non stop energy, Brown similarly looked at ease with Bitton adding a bit of composure. The DU 2 arrived and fitted into this system and way of playing.

    What’s happened?

So far this season we have stopped pressing teams, we sit off them and when we are in possession there’s too many sideways, or backwards, passes resulting in very little happening going forward. Yesterday it was sideways pass, sideways pass, pass back to Charlie, punt long to Griffiths.

The first half at CP v Malmo is the only game we have came close to playing as we did I last season.

Something is amiss at the moment and its up to the manager to sort it quickly. If that means bruising a few egos then good. There is not one player currently at CP who even remotely good enough to think he is above what the manager wants him to do. If he does then he should do one.

Don’t believe it’s a red herring at all.

I take your point about the lack of movement. But proximity is an even bigger omission from our make-up. Of course the movement would get us that proximity, but if you read on………

Football is a fairly simple game eh ? 2 guys in the vicinity are twice as likely to convert as one. I understand why the system has materialised in competitive leagues. It’s not relevant here were teams play with everyone in defence against Celtic. Playing 4 defenders and 5 midfielders just ensures the game is played in front of opponent’s defences. That’s what they want.

The lack of goals in our midfield is an issue (ill not go into the omission of our best footballer).

We are all frustrated by the slow sideways play that ensues.

But my point is even more simple………when we cross the ball one wee guy is the target.

  7. This is my last post.Been on here since my Road to Damascus conversion from Man Utd to Celtic. No resolve to take on the media in Scotland. No calling out of the likes of Nevin and McCann.Grea t posters gone(Auldheid and BRTH and a few others excepted). Its not just the loss of sensible and logical posters, it’s the vituperation and spite on show. There isn’t a single player currently at Celtic Park who has a realistic chance of playing for a ‘bigger’ club than Celtic.

High time they realised that fact, knuckled down, earned the wages that are about ten times what they’d be on if we hadn’t stepped in.

Caveat-Griffiths,if he can jump an inch or two higher and gain a smidgen of pace.

  9. Time to look out the pitchforks and torches yet?

Let’s not get sidetracked by what ex players earned, concentrate on things we can change, things we can improve. If any player at Celtic Park is unhappy, rip up his contract and get lads in who want to be there, the attitude of young Christie, Liam Henderson and hopefully a hungry Scott Allen is more than good enough to win the SPL. Aberdeen needed a helping hand from the weak willed Thomson and our lack of awareness about what to expect.

The second pint is down to the coaching staff, JC should be regretting his ” nobody challeges

  10. Corkcelt and JFH, good to see you keeping the faith.

If LG has some help up front yesterday we would not be sitting here talking about a loss. He is isolated in that position, we need to change the formation and go with two upfront. Maybe Ciftci would benefit also, although I don’t rate him

As for the new Bhoys they will need time to settle, patience is needed. We also need to sort out defending at set pieces, man for man and there are no passengers.

As for comments about unrest in the dressing room, I believe there has been a bad feeling among veterans regarding RD’s comments post Malmo and that needs to be sorted.

    Gary67

Can you tell me which of these games we played last season that were so great where we blew the opposition away?

For me the key player last year was Denayer.

    He’s not there now.

How many more goals should this team be scoring on a weekly basis?

    Why aren’t we?

The striker too often is forced out wide for midfielders to run into the centre but most of them cannot score enough goals.

Even last year I never thought Johansen was as good as some other players. He gives the ball away too often and picks stupid fights. Whenever you pointed this out he had a knack of appearing and scoring a goal then the usual derision would come your way.

    Well that ain’t happening now.

The other problem with this system is if the wide players are not doing it, there is no penetration and neither Forrest nor GMS are playing well enough at this time. GMS especially has fallen away badly.

I honestly think the players in the main are not onside with the manager and this is where the results are coming from.

People can say get rid of the players all they like. In these situations it’s usually the manager who goes and in my opinion he was a cheap appointment who couldn’t believe his luck.

  12. Gary67

In an ideal world the players would get brought in line.

Ronny missed his chance to get rid of those he didn’t rate and caused him problems. Thing is though the same guys he didn’t fancy are the same who baled him out before Christmas: Commons, for example.

You observe the game better than most…………managers are cheap to get rid of players less so. Football’s solution is to get a fresh broom, salve the battered egos and, you know what, it often works.

I’m not saying it’s right, but it happens, and happens a lot.

  13. Any cross ball must be defended even if there is no one in the box to attack it, space is created for attackers to fill. having one striker is not the problem it’s the teams failure to take advantage of this space.

    Hail Hail.

  14. Joe Filippis Haircut on

We knew things were not right when wee Joe Hanson started argueing at that penalty with Griffiths then Ronny made the mistake of criticising the players openly after the Malmo game. Then of course two players decided to say the manager was wrong in public would any player dare to do that when MON was here or big Jock ? We have without a doubt lost our two best players from last season and our new players have not bedded in yet and our goal keeper appears to be going through a wee period of lack of confidence. We have a young manager who is not the complete manager as yet but he has shown he has enough about him to get there. If players are not pulling for the manager or the club no matter who they are they should toe the line or be punted support the manager not the whingers. Calm yer jets, big man. You know the rules about flouncing-it’s not allowed unless you send me a photie of you in a tutu.

For that reason,I still hold out hope that Gold Coast Tom isn’t gone for good. For that matter,I don’t want to see Edward Ursus in his finery either.

Stick with it,mate. Your opinions are as important as the those of the rest of us-irrelevant,but worth stating!-and you occasionally get a laugh.

More importantly, like it or lump it,there are more Celtic fans here than in the rest of your life. Or mine. And I don’t agree wi them either, unless they’re right, and share my opinions!!

  16. BIG-CUP-WINNERS

Aye I’ve been saying that for months who are we crossing to but that’s not new we did that under Lenny, wingers and full backs launched the ball into to an empty box.

I thought Chris Sutton nailed it when he said no one including the strikers is anticipating the ball, attacking the ball or getting across their defender.

Again we’re in a period of transition with a new centre half pairing and I wonder how much different Bitton and Browns game would have been yesterday had VVD been behind them?

It seems to me that workmanlike teams suss us out quickly and we struggle, I thought yesterday James made a difference when he came on, how basic control of the ball and movement immediately put Aberdeen on the back foot if he could finish:))) it would have been a different game.

  17. Sorry……lost my last post?

Anyway , JC must regret the way his words were reported, but he is not a fool ( or is he) he must have known.

This current bunch of players are already at the best club they will ever be at , unless Armstrong developed into a goal scoring player at international level. I’d actually qualify that by saying they are at the best level they can play at , rather than best club.

At the moment the perception is that RD has lost the dressing room , the MSM smell blood so we have to react.

We either react as one, club, team ,supporters together or we fall in disharmony. We need a strong statement of intent this week from our club.

  18. Joe Filippis Haircut on

J.MCCORMICK. The best statement we can get from Celtic is that they play well against Ajax and gub Dundee.

  19. Andrew Kerins Green and White Army on

There seems to be a fear about the players at the moment

A nervousness if you like , now we all make mistakes in life

In business and the like it’s how we deal with them is what’s important

My take on our current troubles is that ronny keeps making similar mistakes to last season and not learning from them

Johansen wants a kick up the bahookie ,obviously undroppable

And it was never a penalty for the dons boyatta just held his ground

  20. Joe Filippis Haircut on

Another thing im pretty sure of that Hearts having lost there last 2 games will have a full house at Tynecastle and Aberdeen wont have a comfortable afternoon. H.H.

  21. I’m pleased to hear Joe Filippis Haircut that you think @ present everything will work out fine.

& it’s all champaign & oysters but wake up my man it’s now all farmers field dung & pears

shape instead of round oranges what a mare the Board need to take a reality check the

coach has got to understand that square pegs don’t go into round holes & when we cross

that field of entry line we make positive things happen instead of expecting positive things

to happen @ present it’s like Groundhog Day except we stuck in keep going over the same

old mistakes time & time again we including myself all pay good money to go & watch our

Club like I pay a monkey + @ present but how would you deal with a bad monkey like the

one in ‘A Night In The Museum’ if said creature was not towing the line.

After all, our Club keep reminding us that the pay 33 Million pounds a year on staff/players

salary’s the highest wage bill in Scotland so if we are all paying good money for the pleasure

of their services then we expect to be entertain if not then they should be shown the exit

door or as the saying goes if one can’t stand the heat in the kitchen then they should leave

    it’s as simple as that

  22. The derision and laughter on the national radio station yesterday was a disgrace. Open sniggering at our performance . Ban them.

I think you need to lie down, mate. In a darkened room…

Seriously,if we have a problem wi personalities bigger than their talent, ditch them. The Celtic are more important than an individual’s ego. And I don’t care how ‘important’ his role in the club is perceived.

  24. Overseas Bhoy that’s just typical of the hun media group of our wee backward Country

they all want to see our Club suffer boycott radio Scotland or whatever radiio station

you are listening too just use CQN for match reports instead

  25. RAYMAC, If you do go you will be missed, you are one of the good ghuys. I’m not in love with CQN at the moment and it wouldn’t take much more to persuade me to take a break. However that is exactly what you should do, Don’t paint yourself into a corner by saying “this is my last post”, just say I’m taking a break and whenever you feel like coming back do so.

So how about one post just to break the voodoo of your last one and then take the break you need.

We need a strong statement of intent this week from our club.

Maybe Peter Lawwell could just regurgitate one of his previous statements of intent.

For example………we will come out of every transfer window stronger……will improve the team year on year…blah, blah, blah….

    Words instead of action. Intent?

I am seriously thinking of joining you, there is no debate here anymore, it’s all slagging each other off, especially from the happy clapper brigade.

I said something on the blog about three years ago, and Petec has now decided that I am the anti christ,

It must have been eating away at him for all that time, so much so that in the past few weeks he has called me out a few times, last night I sickened him.

He was calling out the faith that the present Pope is, and he reckons I am sick, dearie me.

Thing is. he doesn’t sicken me for his beliefs, he is that thick that he couldn’t see I was winding him up all those years ago, but I don’t need his pish, I have better things to be getting on with, and there are other Celtic blogs where these kinds of personal attacks are not allowed to happen, and I was always under the impression that personal attacks were one of the blog rules, sadly it seems not.

AKBW1888 . The one thing I do agree with is that no player is bigger than Celtic and if they dont accept that get them out the door asap. I still believe we will win the SPL and at the very worst have a good run in both cups.I am not happy that we got beaten yesterday but in my opinion there are plenty of reasons why I believe it happened and many of them were outwith the managers control ( see last nights posts ). H.H.

Right am off to the pub for a laugh, not that it hasent been in here this morning because there are some crackpot jobs on here, viva la revaluation, it’s all the agenda today from the trust, hit the Celtic blogs and cause disruption, get the message through, hit them when they are at a low eb, keep repetitive posts up, back each other up, if in trouble PM a comrade for help, the more oxygen the better.
