I can see where you are coming from and only Res12 keeps me involved. That comes into the “I’ve started so I’ll finish bracket” but after that its so long and thanks for the fish.

Being a good Celtic supporter does not mean being above human frailty, but there is no need to expose ourselves to the worst aspects of it just because we all support Celtic.

What, and let a good wind-up like Third Rangers go amiss?

    Not a chance.

Why would you wish to stop posting your opinions? No-one AFAIK posts on here for any other reasons than to make a point. It’s not like some sites with a thumbs up/down counter.

If I make a point that someone else disagrees with-and it does happen-I’ll happily explain my reasons for my stance. I certainly wouldn’t decide to leave because I took umbrage that not everyone prostrated themselves at my feet.

I firmly believe that dissent and disagreements are the basis of a good relationship. Maybe you prefer harmony and the only, not just last, word. If you leave, you’ll be missed. But I’ll bet you will miss us more.

Exactly…. By the way if you take a couple of hours and read back it’s quite funny although I cringe at some of my own rubbish !

    Kev (from earlier)

Celtic always remind me of Celtic I don’t pick and choose when we are good and when we aren’t as good, being a Celtic fan is unconditional love for my humble self

TD67 don’t get caught up in the “internet arguements” if you are in the boozer and tell your company you were arguing on the internet about Celtic they will look at you in a different way, my mates think I am an eijit even talking about Celtic to strangers on the net…. But I love my CQN, as WITS said, it’s my virtual Celtic boozer

  5. I can’t stand most of the opinions on this board it’s just as bad as the MSM for churnalistic regurgitation and the darnel spreading muck.

    Hail Hail.

Also watching the Hoffenheim game, have a small investment on Hoffenheim win with both teams scoring, even the Bundesliga 2 attracts pretty amazing crowds, I think the Germans know their market, although the money at their disposal is a different plant from Scotland

    Good post

Took an enforced afternoon jaunt on KDS yesterday as this blog was pushing my iphone to a wargame app. And various gaming sites etc.

Watching game in O’Neill’s in merchant city and the mood was fairly sombre but nothing like as negative as the blogs

Anyway, what a tough read on that place, almost a relief to get back here…

  8. Could I change the topic slightly? In order for the club to improve significantly something radical has to happen. Resources cannot change substantially, given that we blew the one chance of that in Sweden. Changing the manager would result in a different playing system but we would still be limited by the league in which we play. The step up to playing in Europe after playing Kilmarnock is too great to produce consistent positive results. The only possible radical change that would potentially reshape the fortunes of the club will need to be viewed as a medium term strategy. Get out of the SPL. I know we have tried to get into the EPL without success. Direct entry is a dead duck. Have tried to join the Championship? If that has also been tried with no success, then let’s go after League 1 entry. In two to three years we could be in the EPL. What do we give up by entering either of these leagues? We give up the chance of entry into the CL for a few years, perhaps for ever. Are we really giving up all that much, given our recent efforts and given our policy of selling off the foundations of our team? Can we still play in say, the Scottish Cup, if we play in an English League? If so, entry to the Europa is possible while we work our way through the English divisions to the Holy Grail of the EPL. Even if no European involvement is possible during the transition phase, the loss of revenue per annum is in the order of 6-10 million which would partially offset by increased gate money due to increased interest in seeing teams we have not seen before.

Sure it is a gamble. If wedo not progress out of League 1 we could be stuck in nowhere land. However, a Celtic team that could not progress out of either League 1 or the Championship is not likely to do well in Europe in any case. In my view, given the potential benefits, it is a risk worth taking. Is the Board innovative enough to consider such an action? Or is it content to be a big fish in a small pond that is slowly running out of oxygen? This is a good time(earlier would have been better) to do this since the other “mega” force in Scottish football cannot be dragged into this initiative. Getting two teams into a new league will be more than twice as difficult. So the time is now!

Have we tried entry into League 1? Answers on the back of a ten pound note to Rebus67 fund for a vacation in Italy.

Every game I watch the players are all so comfortable with the ball and so well drilled.

    Must be someone.

  10. Even if we started in league 2 we would be in a richer marketplace than spl.

And as we progressed just think of the earnings Peter could get.

    Win win.

  13. thomthethim for Oscar OK on

Why has CQN descended to the level it has?

    Who is to blame?

I have been posting on here since it was merely a few months old.

It was the quality of the articles and, more so, the quality of the debates that attracted and held me.

Good posters, with opposite views, debating their POV’s in a structured respectful manner.

Those of us, myself included, who couldn’t articulate at a high level, nevertheless read the conflicting views and nodded or shook the head respectively.

Everyone practised self moderation and respect.

If there was the rare crossing of a line, there were Moderators, who brought matters back to the line.

CQN was a influential blog then, discussing matters that the MSM found uncomfortable or merely ignored.

    Not now.

I would suggest that it has become a haven for the MSM. A place where they can find a mine of anti Celtic rhetoric to fill their pages.

Respect has gone out the window. Sacrificed at the altar of unjustified entitlement.

I asked at the start, who is to blame.

    The answer. Paul67.

He has stood over the disintegration of his beautiful creation, due to a lack of control over the extreme personal attacks, from all sides.

Where once CQN had an influence, it has fallen for the worst aspects of tabloid journalism….trading quality for “hits”.

The new format merely emphasis this change.

I think that I, too, will take a break.

  14. Celtic loose a gain narrowly (controversially) against their closest opponents away from home and its time to re-invent the wheel.

    Really?

Maybe we had a poor day with a number of newcomers trying to find their feet.

Lets keep a sense of perspective

  15. Thomthetim for wee Oscar

The blog is a blog open to all, don’t take it too serious, we can all mump and moan, mainly because Celtic lost, if we won yday there would be a 20 odd page article and not 40+, CQN is as real as you or me or any other poster want it too be…….

Threatening to chuck it just gives credence to what you were complaining about

  16. the long wait is over on

Was travelling yesterday and so missed the game.

Haven’t had time today to watch anything other than the key points.

My tuppence worth based on that alone and possibly also that , not having seen the game, I’m not as raw about how poorly we played.

If we were as poor as many posters suggest and Aberdeen , at home , can only muster a sIngle goal victory considering:-

1 Considine still being on the pitch for the vast majority of the game was a ridiculous decision

2 Their penalty was ludicrously soft

    3. We self immolated( again ) in the last few minutes giving away a needless set piece ( sorry to say it but Efe again) and then switching off completely as the ball comes in ( exactly as we did against Malmo)

4 the replacement for our best defender wasn’t playing

5 at least two of our better players are off form , Brown and Johansson

6 their unbeaten run while laudable isn’t going to continue

then while I’m far from happy and retain real concerns about our mental strength and Ronnys decision making I see no reason to read too much into that result.

I don’t think it’s fair to suggest that PAUL67 is responsible for a perceived reduction in quality on the site.

That has happened due to its profile as more people become aware of it,and the prevalence of access.

I joined it in 2009. I could only access it at work. Now,I have five other means of access. Four of which I can put in my pocket.

My point is that mobile devices may have led to a reduction of quality as people can post wi a pint in front of them. I know I do,and I try not to let that affect my judgment-hmmmm!

Anyway. Dinnae flounce. You’ve supported our team all your life, and promoted them in a new continent. Stick around, mate.

    Ha! Ok then…I totally disagree!!

I’ll get the info. from one of the Abbey Celts :-)

  19. In order to change leagues we need to prove that the SFA has hampered Celtic and failed to carry out it’s duty of care for Scottish football. We need RES 12 to win.

    Hail Hail.

  20. The Long wait is over

Worst thing for me is we are watching the same mistakes week after week. The slack passes lack of movement and not being able to defend crosses into our box to name a few.

  21. STARRY PLOUGH on 13TH SEPTEMBER 2015 1:50 PM

    BIG-CUP-WINNERS

Aye I’ve been saying that for months who are we crossing to but that’s not new we did that under Lenny, wingers and full backs launched the ball into to an empty box.

I thought Chris Sutton nailed it when he said no one including the strikers is anticipating the ball, attacking the ball or getting across their defender.

Again we’re in a period of transition with a new centre half pairing and I wonder how much different Bitton and Browns game would have been yesterday had VVD been behind them?

It seems to me that workmanlike teams suss us out quickly and we struggle, I thought yesterday James made a difference when he came on, how basic control of the ball and movement immediately put Aberdeen on the back foot if he could finish:))) it would have been a different game.

    Sorry for late reply…………wallpapering :-(

I’m not so sure we are in a period of transition………….well not in a positive sense.

I just see a plethora of signings with little or no quality.

And on the park I see no discernible progress, not since Ronny re-introduced Kris and Griffiths……..both he doesn’t rate. Now Kris helped him out per Christmas and Leigh is contributing just now. Surely Ronny wouldn’t be daft enough to drop him ?

Sorry to sound so negative, but we are so poor just now. It’s not just Ronny, of course they are all culpable to different degrees, just he’s likely to be the sacrifice……..

I’d suggest we will be faced with that in the short term, the shorter the better if I’m honest,as we have ground to make-up.

  22. St stivs,

Maybe we are working on the relegation strategy! I did not launch my overlong post because of the result yesterday but because of our lack of progress as a club for the last few years. Sailing along as we currently do will only result in………….sailing along as we currently do!

As MON said get used to the slow lane, or……….change lanes.

Does this kind of thinking happen at Board level. I am a shareholder and I see no evidence of it.

Could we opt out the League Cup And Scottish Cup to play in a short Scandinavian Tournament?

    Has this been explored?

Not sure we would survive at that level, however after couple of seasons, mid table? Then who knows…

  26. Paul67 et al

I think it would be fair to say that while the PLC was the right model back in 1994, (net debt to the Bank of Scotland, cost of rebuilding the stadium to its present capacity etc) it no longer works for the team. It restricts the management team and it enrages many of our supporters. Not to say it isn’t a well run PLC, but it is no longer a successful one. Turnover from ten or even fifteen years ago under Martin O’Neil exceeded last seasons’ more than a few times.

What is to be done? Well £50 million is the equivalent of £1000 times fifty thousand supporters, a possible scenario, every one a member entitled to a season ticket. Auldheid suggested a membership model of 100,000, albeit for a different purpose, so how about £500 pa for a membership and see how many would need a season ticket. Let’s say half of them, those that can go to Celtic Park on a regular occasion. The STs could be transferable, usable by others. There is your £50 million for starters, with 10,000 seats to spare, and with no need for a PLC structure whatsoever, whose main source of revenue is those very same supporters. Cut out the middle men, and support the club.

  27. Many of today’s posts have centred on DD, never my favourite person.

Perhaps Paul 67, who apparently has the ear of the CP hierachy, would put the following simple question to Mr. Desmond.

Name any of you other enterprises, where you would expect a relentless programme of downsizing, resulting in a diminishing product quality, to result in an expanding or even stable customer base.

  28. Rebus67 – what we should be doing is starting a club at a very low level in England.

Maybe the Dog and Duck in the Hammersmith & District League ?

Seriously, we could have started one 10 years ago and would now certainly be in the Football league itself – all the time still playing in Scotland.

I don’t like the idea of takeover – even it the club there has only 50 fins, it’s still their thing.

As for yesterday, we have lost before to Aberdeen and will do so again – we often drop points after international breaks. It’s more Ajax that I’m worried about – we could be in for a tonking.

  29. Saint Stivs

HoffenheimQuickNews is in meltdown, they don’t care about how many fans attended today, the referee was anything but a homer, their owner is a tax exile and their CEO has a heated driveway

Just a pity the ref preferred the team in green, we should move to Germany…….

  30. I just ask….where is the best stadium on a CL night.

And why do so many top players praise Celtic….is it because of DD and PL?

    Er…naw, I wouldn’t think so.

Celtic have the potential to be a giant in European football….but we are let down badly by businessmen with no vision at all.

Celtic Park is the best, because of the Celtic supporters…lets get it right.

    Change will come….that’s football.

Nobody, not even DD….is bigger than Celtic.
