Abuser hypocrisy, United and Atletico

939

I don’t know what was said to Neil Lennon after the victory over Dunfermline last week but if it caused him to react I can imagine the tone.  The few visits I made to the South Stand during Gordon Strachan’s tenure left an indelible image of life as a Celtic manager.

Whatever Kirk Broadfoot did or did not say to Rangers fans towards the end of their defeat at Kilmarnock yesterday, does anyone seriously think it contained more invective than has been hurled at the player for most of his career?

The self-righteous indignation some football fans exhibit when an employee earning [insert a completely irrelevant figure here]exhibits intolerance to what would get you barred for life from any other workplace in the country is the epitome of hypocrisy.

Garry Kenneth, who is likely to face Celtic at Tannadice on Sunday, today told the world he will not be renewing his contract when it expires at the end of the season, saying, “Dundee United are a feeder club, it has always been like that.” Ouch.  Whatever Kenneth thinks of United he should at least respect their fans emotional investment in the club to be a whole lot more careful with his words.  Should make for a tense afternoon in the United defence, especially if we can put the big guy under some pressure.

Big game on Wednesday.  A win would fire enormous impetus into our season.  Whatever the outcome, the game will provide Neil Lennon with a guide on how to play in the hugely important month ahead.

I understand Sacramento police are looking into reports of a missing advertising utensil used by a well known local yoghurt parlour.

A police spokesman said “It is a puzzling crime, I mean the only thing a utensil that size would be good for is stirring it. A van was seen speeding towards Vegas in the wee hours with loud chuckles coming from the driver’s cabin and we will leave no blog unturned until we find him.” ;)

Probably going along as he has first hand experience in two growth areas , care of the elderly and how to cope in a financial crisis. I am sure our “meenistirs” at the wee kiddy oan parliament are all on his speed dial.

  9. I’d rather keep Scott Brown until we win the league and hopefully a few more trophies besides, the way the MIB are performing we will have players banned and injured due to lack of protection etc, move him on in the summer if necessary, but get him signed up on another deal and sell him on after we’re championees…… just my tuppence halfpenny’s worth.

You’re right to pull me up on that as I never fully explained myself. What I meant to say was the League is most certainly, priority number one. Sure we want to do well in all games we play but I know what I’d rather have at the seasons end. Sorry for not explianing myself.

  16. Maybe Wiggy is off to Brazil to see if he can find some football administrators that are not as corrupt as our own Scottish ones. I think Brazil, Jamaica and Qatar are the places to start definitely or has he enrolled for his corruption badges.

Once again I come on to explain myself, maybe I’m a proper eedjit. If I gave the impression that I am a fan of Broony then I must make myself clear as water. I do not like Herr Broon at all. He has very little skill, canny pass, canny tackle, canny shoot, but he does have plent of heart, but then so would you and I if we were playing for our beloved CELTIC, but like Broony, we would not be very good. I think the fans would be yelling for KoJo and KINGLuBo to GTF aff the field.

  19. It’s getting to that time of the season when everyone on CQN,from Paul onwards, believes that the next game is probably the most important of the season.I happen to believe that unfortunately it is going to be like this until the end of the season.Better get used to it.The old maxim is that we just need to win our games and forget about the opposition however,in a country where two teams dominate that is a very difficult proposition.

For me the most satisfying aspect of the weekend is that it has really confirmed the belief that it is all really now in our own hands,no favours from anyone required.

Whilst on the subject of not looking out for rivals results on Sunday I attended a matinee of the classic play by Sean O’Casey,Juno and the Paycock,at the National Theatre in London.A beautiful sunny, cold day,so I walked to the theatre whilst checking CQN on my iphone.Seated at 2.20pm for a 2.30pm start. Then I saw Yeeeeeeeeeeeeees!!1-0 Killie followed by others advising 5 minutes to go.The background music for the play started up,it was the Foggy Dew,surely a fantastic omen,I felt like bursting into a verse or two of The Boys of the Old Brigade.probably not from Circle seats. It was now time to turn off the iphone.5 minutes to go and my dear Celtic’s season was taking off big time. The next hour or so was a mixture of delight with the play and frustration at not knowing the outcome from those last few minutes from Kilmarnock.

Silly really. The force is with us again. We will win this league. For me,I will be consulting league fixtures ( rivals included ) before I commit to any such other engagements.

I will be there on Wednesday.

  20. I go with the ‘if its not broke, dont fix it’ school of thought. Brown on the bench if he’s fit yes. But not to start the game. We’re just starting to gel, all depends on Lennies long term thinking. Newcastle are supposedly thinking of a bid in Jan to secure his services. Probably wont be much but better than nothing in the summer. Having said that he would still be useful for the rest of the season.

My biggest worry is that traditionally we are approaching the time of the season where we tend to drop points (ploughed field pitches and all that )If Lenny can buck that trend then we might go on a good run .
