When you’re shopping in a sellers’ market, agility is the only way to survive. You need contacts, sufficient coverage to trawl outlying corners of the bazar, and enough experience to ensure you don’t get burned.
If you’re trying to buy Champions League-calibre players for £100k you’re shopping in a serious sellers’ market but there is good strategy behind the deal Celtic have struck with Icelandic club, Fram, for the signature of 20-year-old striker, Holmbert Aron Fridjonsson.
Holmbert may or may not be the next Ibrahimavic, experience suggests you’ve got to kiss a lot of frogs in this game to find the one you’re looking for, but if Celtic are to bring a player to Glasgow who is capable of hitting the top, we’ll have to get him before the hundred-or-so other clubs floating around the wealthy leagues of Europe, which means we shop early.
We can afford to sign a few at £100k in an effort to fill just one place in the team. The argument could also be made that our more expensive players have only a marginally higher success rate than those signed for six figures or less.
Thanks for the big response to the launch of the second edition of the CQN Annual [which is now shipping]yesterday, as well as CQN Magazine, and the ‘10’ event, which the occupants of the comments section are being given a head start on.
If you are on or near South Uist tomorrow make sure you take in the Hebridean cultural event of the year, when Alex O’Henley has a book signing of his biography of Celtic great, Malky MacDonald at the Dark Island Hotel from 1-2pm, before a Q&A at the Polochar Inn, from 7-8:30pm.
Not only does the book chart the life and achievements of a pre-war Celtic great, it does so in two languages (English when read one way, flip the other way for Gaelic). It’s a great work, available from the Islands Book Trust.

This is a good video about the foundation here. Just worry that lack of commitment to living wage undermines it a bit. #ticagm

#ticagm Ord resolution requires a simple majority of votes cast. If the results of show of hands conflict with proxies a poll will be called
Think i’ll leave out the non interesting resolutions?

#ticagm CT is, this year, voting against Annual Report because it contains the report of Remuneration Committee with big payouts to Board
Big Nan: if you’re still around …
And apologies in advance if you’ve already been asked this: were members of the Petitions Committee ever asked to volunteer any memberships which might give the appearance of prejudicing their consideration of you petition (or indeed of any other) … ?

Am I unique on this blog ?
I am classed as protestant (although I only went to church when I was in the BB), white, born and bred traced back to great great grandparents Scottish and I have no interest in Ireland or the struggle for independence in Ireland or any religion but I do have a big interest in politics but none of the previous 3 (Ireland, Religion, politics) have anything to do with watching Celtic in the country where they have played their home competitive football for more than 126 years now…
I support Celtic for purely football reasons. They were the best team to watch when I grew up and although we haven’t always enjoyed vintage seasons during my life, I still support them and always will.
I have opinions on many things as does everyone else on this blog but that doesn’t make me right or wrong on these subjects.
I would dearly love CQN to just be about Celtic, about football but that’s just my opinion (see above note).
I respect every other bloggers right to discuss whatever they want, rant about it, rave about it and to disagree with anyone who contradicts their firm beliefs but ultimately nobody really cares or does a complete U-turn after a discussion here.
Lastly.. a huge well done to the good guys on here who are procative in raising funds, comforting the bereaved, taking their fight to the AGM and many other good things that come from folk here which are way too numerous to mention.
Keep the faith, always support Celtic and know that you may well be in a minority in the world as a Celtic fan but WE ARE THE ELITE !!
Rob – you are unique as an individual – as we all are. But you are also part of a unique family – Celtic. It’s good that we have different opinions and are able to argue our points of view in a civilised manner. Otherwise, where would all the new ideas come from?! I was gladdened to read your post. Keep posting!
Back ….favourite uncle in reply to your query….

Big Nan
As you said when talking to the committee, Scotland has a problem with the Irish, and it has been ingrained since before an Gorta Mór.
……………………………….
Yes before the Famine there were troubles and Scotland sided with England in putting down the rebellious Irish and there was always a movement of seasonal agricultural labour but it was that great influx during and after the Great Famine, which coincided with the Industrial Revolution which caused the big problems. That and Westminster’s fear that the Scots might wany some of the revolutionary freedoms being won elsewhere which cause them to drive a wedge between the Scots and their new Scots/Irish fellows.
Divide and conquer was the order of the day and the residual bigotry from that is still seen parading our streets, or scurrying into lodges, on a regular basis.
@celticrumours: Fergus wants us to show support for Eric Riley by acclamation then big round of applause. #ticagm
@bbcjimspence: Resolutions to be voted on at Celtic AGM. 11 & 12 on Living wage and referring the SFA to UEFA over licensing practices will be intriguing.
@celticfc: Resolution 4: to reappoint Dermot Desmond as a director of the Company is carried.
@celticrumours: Dermot through but we have a bloke from the floor.”slap in the face that he doesn’t appear today. People have questions for dermot.” #ticagm
Thanks Natknow, appreciate your words
Cubist funk… no, posted quite a few times before and will continue to hopefully contribute but when it comes to the subjects I don’t think have anything to do with Celtic then I tend to “abstain” from commenting (unless someone says something completely ridiculous of course !!)
:)
Good luck to all the bhoys at the AGM today
@celticrumours: Round of applause “I think it’s sad that he isn’t here to speak to supporters.”bankier says it’s a team effort but he appreciates the view.
Folly Folly,
Thanks very much.
Riley, Lawwell and Desmond all re-appointed to the Board

That’s all true too, but you made several references in your presentation to the situation in Scotland being unique and what has made Scotland unique is that the entire country was Calvinist-run (I don’t mean 100% of the population, obviously). The Protestant Reformation was widespread, but this only happened in Scotland.
It could be a coincidence that Scotland continues to have the problems it does with regard to sectarianism. It could be a coincidence that Scotland’s masons have the orange tinge you talked about. It could be a coincidence that Scotland has, as you said, more masons per capita than anywhere else.
Then again, there could be a link to the way the Reformation changed Scotland in the sixteenth century.
@celticfc: Resolution 6: to appoint BDO LLP as auditors of the Company is carried.
@celticfc: Resolution 7: to authorise directors to determine remuneration of the auditors, is carried. OR PUT ANOTHER WAY……………..@celticrumours: Resolution 7 gives the board the right to pay the auditors for their work with rangers. #ticagm
What is more intriguing at this AGM?
The known unknowns or the unknown unknowns?
Will we know anymore about Mr.Lawell’s opinion of Deadclub’s illegal acquisition of a European license to get horsed by Malmo then Maribor?
Does big Pete know that we know that he knows?
GreatunknownsCSC
Does
Oops…. Lol @celticrumours: Sorry, sorry, their work with celtic. Ffs don’t tell anyone I let that cat out the bag. #ticagm
@celticfc: Resolution 8 is carried: refer to AGM notice. http://t.co/Xdzww3aFic
AGM getting to the tickly bit now……
Celtic_First I certainly believe that is the case and I make it on my Blog here:
http://www.tomminogue.com/blog7.php/second-page
I do of course regret that I feel this way but the way to change things isn’t by pretending that they do not exist and this is a flaw, a weakness, in the Scots psyche which has so many strengths.
@celticfc: Resolutions 10, 11, 12 are ordinary resolutions, requisitioned by shareholders….. Here we go!
Big Nan

Agreed.
Ffs……Am I reading that Dermot Desmond is not in attendance?
Absolutely ridiculous if this is the case.
