  1. Good performance and a good result. Thought Izzie was a bit unlucky but only himself to blame. Almost as stupid as our captain fouling their player at the corner flag with his back to the goal when we were holding on near the end. Kris again showing he is the guy that can make things happen for us with his contribution for both goals. Nir also played very well. Efe could not have done any better when he came on.

It’s a good result while playing at 70% of our capability. If we can get up to 90% we can win this group

Straight red for Forster when he pulled down Naismith. Despite him clearly going away from goal, and having little chance of even getting to the ball, which was not under control.

Last week,Thomson said no red for the Aberdeen defender as LG was going away from goal-despite the ball being firmly under control.

Finally saw the second Ajax goal.

    No way Gordon`s fault.

The runners to the near post probably never intended to head the cross, but Craig had to come to the near post in case they did.

A rehearsed move straight off the training ground.

  10. You can’t take a player off the park after he’s been booked,The manager can’t read minds He won’t be thinking that Issie is going to foul someone else,I’ve never heard so much shit talked on here lately.

Can anyone remember the game at Ibrox when Celtic had nine players booked, how would the manager choose who to keep on the park, You don’t take a player off because he’s been booked, If you want to blame anyone blame the referee, who made the mistake of booking Issie for the first foul on the touchline, never a foul never mind a booking.

  11. Good morning friends and a Big Happy Friday from a dry but grey looking East Kilbride. Overall I am very pleased with the point we gained away from home last night and, very importantly for me, the improved performance of almost all of the individual players.

Goals like that happen a lot and yeah, they are practised.

Go back to the one Hedman lost in Europe…..cannae remember who it was against!

    Whats that…..about 10 years ago?

Remember someone else lost almost the exact same goal the following night without the furore that accompanied our one.

Effectively these players are shooting for that far post yet it is also a cross and when its whipped in as wickedly as last nights effort was all it needs is a touch to send it behind the keeper who can only stand ready to perhaps pull off a reflex stop.

If that touch doesn’t come, its then too late to react and the keeper is pretty much helpless.

Perhaps someone dropping back onto the backpost immediately after a free kick is taken could prevent it but then it may leave a man unmarked.

Hope you have a drunk and successful day at your home meeting today, I know Richie has a Horse running today,I had a few quid on at Musselburgh but didn’t run that good, I notice the horse has changed trainers, so there could be a change of luck as well,I’ll bet it again.

I`ve also seen that type of goal scored before. It`s a brilliant tactic and very hard to defend against.

A man on the line,as you say, at the back post plays everyone onside.

In fact the cameras focus on the scorer 2 mins. later as he calls over to a teammate,as if to say ” I knew it would work.”

That`s a bit of a long bow ,of course, but my basic point was that Craig Gordon was certainly not to blame.

I read the C.Q.N. accounts before I saw the game and I was a bit concerned that Craig may have been at fault.Again.

  19. It usually takes a few months for a player to knit into a team,we have a few players that are new to the team so we have to give them a bit time to knit together,I quite like the new C/H, but it will take time.

I should have said, I’ll give them time to knit together, NOT, we have to give them time to knit together,to some on here there is no time to let players time too knit together, they must click immediately, or they’re oot the door.

  20. Some perspective please, we started that match at the ArenA hoping for a draw. Ajax started the second half hoping for a draw.

Much improved performance, that “dodgy defence”, who let’s face it were strangers, to me looked like a bunch of ghuys determined not to give a goal away.

We know where the problems are, we’ll get better.

Well done Ronny and the Bhoys…

I think Izzie should have been subbed.

Not because he was booked but because he had two more challenges and gave away 2 free kicks prior to his third challenge and free kick award to Ajax. The first challenge could have seen him given a second yellow but he’d have been unlucky to get booked for that. The second challenge could have seen him given his second yellow but he was lucky not to be booked. Third challenge was coming and even the blind guy said he should be hooked. It’s the managers job to spot this and hook him before he left us a man down. The rest is history.

‘You can’t take a player off the park after he’s been booked’

    ####

I’m fairly sure that you can.

In fact I think I’ve seen managers do it in the past.

It’s a judgment call by the manager, who’d have to consider the chance that the player will get a second yellow.

I was expecting a second yellow, and I doubt many would have been surprised by it.

The person to blame though isn’t the ref, or the manager, it’s the player. He knew he was on a yellow card and presented the ref with the chance to give him a second.

Not sure that it swung the game though.

  27. Well Done Glasgow Celtic on an excellent point, away from home, against higher seeded Ajax from Amsterdam.

I only seen the 2nd half because of work, we should have won the game, but the Referee made an Actual honest mistake, hopefully Izzy will be reprieved when it goes before these panel things.

I thought Efe Ambrose when he came on was a Rock, especially as he made an early mistake.

  28. Jeez, it’s a rollercoaster ride of joy and frustration watching celtic play in europe these days

Good result, improved performance to build on

A couple of my pet frustrations in evidence tho –

1 – waiting/stopping on the ball so allowing the opposition player to nip in or catch you in possession and take it off you. Why cant the players learn that against even mediocre european teams you just dont get time to do that

2 – turning back blindly into trouble when there’s a big open space in front of you to run into – the one near the end with bitton in the middle of their half when he should have sprinted towards the side/corner of the pitch to try run the clock down, but he tried to spin on the ball right into 2 defenders allowing them to get the ball up the pitch – i damn near broke my telly with rage, even though i was watching on the PC

As for Izzy, i always say he would be one of the first names on my team sheet, but his behaviour last night was that of a spoilt petulant little brat

His first booking was because he took the huff that his half baked attempt at a nutmeg didnt work so he just hacked the defender down, when it was easier to pass to a team mate

he should then have been sent off for this challenge on the touchline, which was a stupid challenge to make on a yellow card when he clearly had no chance of winning the ball. then a few seconds later dives in again. unbelievable. i wonder if he is a betting man and had a Lempira on there being a red card in the game?

what happened to boring 3-0 victories that dont take years off your life??

I was told we were going to get destroyed by Ajax a few days ago.

Pity ive got a wee day off today as id like to see if his disappointed face is as ugly as his gleeful face.

Anyway……got 2 dozen slabs to lay on my wee day off so better get moving.

Have a good day everyone :)

  30. F.A.B. Virgil (WATRC) on

    Petec

No appeal for 2 yellows. The Ajax player targeted Izzy which is what I would expect. He simulated in order to get the man sent off. That’s simple cheating. He had been simulating for a while. The ref was not well placed and was conned. The person at fault is the simulator because his actions were deliberate.

  31. Good morning CQNers,

To take away a point from the home of the top seeded team of our group was an achievement, but it could and should been 3 points.

There was much to applaud about last night’s performance, Simunovic played with an assurance on his debut game that suggests he’ll restore the defence’s equlibrum, Kris Commons provided some much needed inspiration and invention and also tracked back to give Lustig some protection. Bitton in his own unhurried way showed that he is comfortable and competitive on the European stage and the way he took his goal was top class.

Unfortunately ill-discipline was again a failing and contributed to slightly tarnish what was a good team performance, it is a failing that will haunt us if we don’t address it.
