Amazonians, the Window of Opportunity

643

“It’s just a dream come true”, the words of 20-year-old Holmbert Fridjonsson, who today signed a pre-contract agreement with Celtic and will join the club on 1 January.  5’ 9” manager, Neil Lennon, told Celticfc.net that the 6’3” striker is “a good size”, perhaps giving a glimpse into the innermost thoughts guiding Celtic’s recruitment policy, for those who have not noted the collection of Amazonians now in hoops.

Holmbert will push for a place with Anthony Stokes, Teemu Pukki and Amido Balde; Georgios Samaras is seldom used as a conventional striker.  He has made 45 career appearances, five fewer than Victor Wanyama when he signed for Celtic, also as a 20-year-old.

A year ago, when Victor was busy declining a new contract offer, we talked about the window of opportunity, when you have enough appearances to judge a player, but not so many that the world and their grannie knows about him.  We concluded that less than 30 appearances would be enough.  Victor made a total of 61 Celtic appearances but was his stock rose stratospherically after 30-odd games. The stats suggest we should catch them between 30 and 60 appearances.

Stunning result for Gordon Strachan’s Scotland last night.  Keep an eye on that guy, he’s got talent.

Really looking forward to another great charity night at the Columba Club, Blantyre, on Friday, starting at 8pm, where we are having a Q&A with myself, Phil Mac Giolla Bhain and Paul McConville, in aid of the Lourdes Fund.  These are always great nights, tickets are available at the door, get along and say ‘hello’.

Many thanks to the hundreds of you have now ordered the CQN Annual, and for all the encouraging feedback.  It’s a bit big for a stocking filler, unless perhaps you’re an Amazonian.

See you Friday.

  4. Their share price reached 92? pence per share, and they have been in decline ever since, no’one is buying their shares there’s always a bit of fluctuation, if the shares stand still for a few days all it means is there is no action happening. The only action I can see happening is a downward trend, another two or three million shares sold will make them all jumpy, and the first big player who loses his nerve will cause a run on the shares, then they will really be in trouble.

no-one trades in footie shares in Scotland. There is no movement to provoke a profit. Most have shares out of football pride or take them at discount as part or a sign on fee.

If Sevco are trading big , it is an option given to a staff member way below current price.

The Kaiser has lost big on Celtic. MON diluted the investment which was the Kaiser kick back to us. He knows that and will never sell. Emotional investment.

My beloved late father in law met the Kaiser. He said he can’t sell if he wants to keep his family.

the Kaiser is class, no need to be a bowhard like other football owners

    Celtic condolences

By: Tony Hamilton on 20 Nov, 2013 15:42

FORMER Celtic employee, Pat Woods, has passed away peacefully at the grand old age of 96, with his family at his bedside.

Pat worked at the front door of Celtic Park and as a steward for nearly 30 years between the mid 1960s and the early 1990s, and he was also a founding member of Shettleston CSC.

In 2007, on his 90th birthday, he came back to Celtic Park to be filmed for the Official History DVD, in which he spoke of the early days of watching Celtic as a young boy in the 1920s and 1930s. He was presented with a birthday cake by then Celtic captain, Stephen McManus.

He regaled us with tales of being at the match against Rangers as a teenager in 1931, on the fateful day that John Thomson was tragically and accidentally killed. Pat would have been one of the last remaining witnesses to that momentous period in the Club’s history.

Pat was widowed in 1996 and leaves behind his sons John, Danny and Stephen and his daughter, Jean. There are also six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and an extended family of nieces and nephews including celebrated Celtic author and historian, Pat Woods, who shares his name.

Our sincere condolences go to Pat’s family and friends at this time.

  16. Information required, bhoys, please. I’m hoping to take one of my younger brothers to the Barca game. (Well he’s not that young at 60. What does that say for me?)

Can someone tell me the airport in Barcelona, what is the best area to stay and in what area is Camp Nou?

    Thanks in advance,

    Hail! Hail!

    Yogi

  17. All

are any Celtic fan shareholders in positive equity?

i remember prices of around 145 back in the 90s but the price has been stable for a long time around 45.

The initial float was to take a piece of the club(and are worthless in finacial terms) but the later floats should be expected to hold some value(in return for a Sutton).

i never saw the point here and prefer to push cashflow to Celtic , not ownership.

I never met Pat I just went on the official Celtic site and read the story, I put it on here because this is a site that appreciates the struggle that the older generation have went through in their support for our club. After that his son came on and posted, I know many many men like Pat who have left and some that are still here. I am sorry that I never met him and I offer my sincere sympathies to his family. I got great sympathy on here when I lost someone close to me a long time ago now and it helped me and at the same time others on this site who had also lost their loved ones. I am sorry that I never met Pat.

Re your reference to the Kaiser.

He makes a decent return every year by way of the divi on his preference shares – as do others.

Does it offset his investment ?

Truthfully I don’t have the patience to look through our history of share issues and dividends, but it is not an overly complex exercise.

I am not on to argue the Kaiser’s merits or failings as our biggest shareholder.

Over the piece I am a fan of his, but to say he gets no return is incorrect.

Sorry, my last reply went AWOL.

If you are looking for a decent place, the Eurostars Grand Marina is about 6/7 minutes walk from Las Ramblas and about 3 miles (10/12 euros in a taxi) from Camp Nou.

If there is a conference on it is extortionate , but if you can pick it up for £100 / night it is well worth it.
