Amazonians, the Window of Opportunity

643

“It’s just a dream come true”, the words of 20-year-old Holmbert Fridjonsson, who today signed a pre-contract agreement with Celtic and will join the club on 1 January.  5’ 9” manager, Neil Lennon, told Celticfc.net that the 6’3” striker is “a good size”, perhaps giving a glimpse into the innermost thoughts guiding Celtic’s recruitment policy, for those who have not noted the collection of Amazonians now in hoops.

Holmbert will push for a place with Anthony Stokes, Teemu Pukki and Amido Balde; Georgios Samaras is seldom used as a conventional striker.  He has made 45 career appearances, five fewer than Victor Wanyama when he signed for Celtic, also as a 20-year-old.

A year ago, when Victor was busy declining a new contract offer, we talked about the window of opportunity, when you have enough appearances to judge a player, but not so many that the world and their grannie knows about him.  We concluded that less than 30 appearances would be enough.  Victor made a total of 61 Celtic appearances but was his stock rose stratospherically after 30-odd games. The stats suggest we should catch them between 30 and 60 appearances.

Stunning result for Gordon Strachan’s Scotland last night.  Keep an eye on that guy, he’s got talent.

Really looking forward to another great charity night at the Columba Club, Blantyre, on Friday, starting at 8pm, where we are having a Q&A with myself, Phil Mac Giolla Bhain and Paul McConville, in aid of the Lourdes Fund.  These are always great nights, tickets are available at the door, get along and say ‘hello’.

Many thanks to the hundreds of you have now ordered the CQN Annual, and for all the encouraging feedback.  It’s a bit big for a stocking filler, unless perhaps you’re an Amazonian.

See you Friday.

The fine is old and yet unpaid, what’s puzzling is the BBC reporting it as a news story,

inferring – Should Sevco have to pay?

They know they have to pay it, otherwise there would be no Sevco licence.

The good bit is Sevco haven’t got the money to pay it.

And what’s all this about a “transfer of membership”? Struggling to see why you would need to transfer membership from one club to the SAME club…….

  3. If Awwy Wamont is leading the line on this story then there is deffo a happy ending for the Tribute Klub…………..

A prelude to them coughing up the token fine and getting away scot-free on all the rest with their horrible history intact?

Civil unrest is at stake here…………..

Nobody want berserking currants doing what they do best, eh!

  7. Reading stuff on Phil Macs site from the deluded ones. They really haven’t a clue have they?

I suppose to them they are looking at a team dressed like their old one in their old place and so it is bound to feel much the same.

If the newco is allowed to continue with this then they ought to pay the debts of oldco as they are using oldco’s product with very little if any change.

    It really is a disgrace.

That their lack of humility and admittance of guilt has led them to be structurally deformed from birth as a new club and means they will be unable to compete as a top club in the longer term is some consolation to me, but I suspect not to the smaller companies they stiffed.

Wonder why the SMSM never went after stories at some of these companies and asked questions about employees who lost jobs or firms that shut!

  8. Paul67, how about adding to CQN an ice-cream-and-jelly-o-meter? I need to know if I should restock. From what I’m hearing today, I definitely should.

    From Celtic Underground

Every football fan should be concerned by the events in Amsterdam earlier this month.

Every Celtic fan should be thinking about what they can do to support the Bhoys who have been the victims of heavy handed policing in Dam Square in the hours before our Champions League game against Ajax.

When Padraig Mullen & Andy Vance were remanded in custody two weeks ago it was a disappointing day for them and especially their families but also for football fans everywhere – there was no need to keep the two Bhoys locked up in a foreign jail. The case for their release is overwhelming, it is a disgrace that the two young men are still over there.

As someone who has been lucky enough to travel abroad and watch our team on many occasions over the years I am acutely aware that it could quite as easily have been me who was caught up in the police provoked madness in Dam Square, I was in the square earlier in the day and was making my way to the stadium when it all kicked off.

Every morning since I first seen the footage on YouTube I have woken and thanked the Lord that it wasn’t me who was stuck in a foreign jail having taking a beating and unable to make much contact with family. But for us Celtic fans thanking the Lord just isn’t enough! We have a social responsibility to look after and support each other.

I have decided to auction off my Lisbon Lions jersey to raise money for the campaign to free Padraig and Andy. I had intended to use it for another worthy Celtic cause but having seen the footage on YouTube and spoke with one of the Bhoys families I feel that this is the most worthy cause. It’s not just about getting these two Bhoys freed, it’s about justice, it’s about treating football fans in the same manner as the rest of society. These Bhoys

    are football fans not criminals.

The jersey I am auctioning is signed by all the surviving members of the Lisbon squad – John Fallon, Jim Craig, Tommy Gemmell, John Clark, Billy McNeill, Bertie Auld, Charlie Gallacher, John Hughes, Willie Wallace, Stevie Chalmers and Bobby Lennox who liked the jersey so much that he signed it twice! (see attached photo).

We don’t stop supporting our team at the final whistle, we support them all the time.

We don’t stop supporting our fellow fans once we arrive safely home, we support them until they come home safely.

To bid for this jersey email arthurmckennalochgellycsc@live.co.uk or contact me through Twitter @leftybhoy

I will keep the auction open until 21.00 on Friday.

Every Celtic fan needs to play their part – if you can’t afford to bid for the jersey then make sure you get along next week to the Aberdeen game and put the price of a pint in the bucket to show your support.

    ****************************************************

Even better, give up your pre-match pints and become a bucket collector. 2hrs of your life to protect the lifes and reputation of the 10 bhoys that have been wrongly charged. Sounds a fair deal to me.

And with 500 Million fans (cough cough) worldwide it’s literally pennies for each of their supporters to pay those outstanding debts. The clamour amongst their fans to help those creditors is breathtaking. What a fantastic bunch.

  18. Who has the power to put these fascist police thugs of the Amsterdam police behind bars?

Is the government there in support of this thuggery because this is a city that thrives on tourism. It looks like the Celtic fans were not the first. I expect a huge attack from the Scottish media on this, demanding explanations. Any minute now. Oh I forgot that great powerhouse the Scottish Government they will be demanding answers, an International incident???

Ach it’s allright just throw that woman under the police horse and run over that guy they are Celtic fans they don’t count. Just do what we do and destroy years of police evidence.

  19. What surprises me is that not one single creditor has taken them to court for their outstanding monies owed.

I wonder why that is then…………..

    From Tsfm

From what I’ve read If directors have traded with the same or a similar company name without the Court’s permission, all debts incurred may become their personal liability. Has the Court given permission in this case? Apologies if this is old hat.

Also, the role of liquidators of a business is to gather and sell the assets of the business to raise as much as possible for creditors, no more no less. To achieve this end they are armed with formidable powers to enable access to assets. They act, then ask questions.

In this case the assets are right there, yet nothing seems to have happened except the issue of a list of costs. Maybe I’m under the wrong tree.

  22. Alasdair Lamont, senior football reporter, BBC Scotland, gets his “news” off Charlotte, but doesn’t give her any credit. Poor show.

If he has done the basics and phoned the SPFL, the lawyer who came up with the idea of going after the £250k, Roddy McKenzie, or Sevco to ask if Charlotte’s leak on Monday night is true, he is careful not to report that here. Poor show.

It’s still interesting that he has gone ahead with the story and suggests it is true (because he must have done his checking and just be too scared to quote anyone, even as a ‘source’; the BBC will be very upset if he hasn’t).

It’s even more interesting that he refers to the five-way agreement. Has anyone seen any MSM confirmation before this that the five-way agreement even exists?

What is this agreement of which you speak, Alasdair? We know nothing of this. Pray tell who are the five parties, what they agreed and why.

Except we’ve all seen the Charlotte leak of the draft version, right? Same as Alasdair Lamont has. Maybe he’s seen the final version.

I’ll tell you one thing, though, the last thing the five-way agreement does is suggest Sevco are Rangers. You see, if Sevco were Rangers, this would be a four-way agreement.
