Amazonians, the Window of Opportunity

643

“It’s just a dream come true”, the words of 20-year-old Holmbert Fridjonsson, who today signed a pre-contract agreement with Celtic and will join the club on 1 January.  5’ 9” manager, Neil Lennon, told Celticfc.net that the 6’3” striker is “a good size”, perhaps giving a glimpse into the innermost thoughts guiding Celtic’s recruitment policy, for those who have not noted the collection of Amazonians now in hoops.

Holmbert will push for a place with Anthony Stokes, Teemu Pukki and Amido Balde; Georgios Samaras is seldom used as a conventional striker.  He has made 45 career appearances, five fewer than Victor Wanyama when he signed for Celtic, also as a 20-year-old.

A year ago, when Victor was busy declining a new contract offer, we talked about the window of opportunity, when you have enough appearances to judge a player, but not so many that the world and their grannie knows about him.  We concluded that less than 30 appearances would be enough.  Victor made a total of 61 Celtic appearances but was his stock rose stratospherically after 30-odd games. The stats suggest we should catch them between 30 and 60 appearances.

Stunning result for Gordon Strachan’s Scotland last night.  Keep an eye on that guy, he’s got talent.

Really looking forward to another great charity night at the Columba Club, Blantyre, on Friday, starting at 8pm, where we are having a Q&A with myself, Phil Mac Giolla Bhain and Paul McConville, in aid of the Lourdes Fund.  These are always great nights, tickets are available at the door, get along and say ‘hello’.

Many thanks to the hundreds of you have now ordered the CQN Annual, and for all the encouraging feedback.  It’s a bit big for a stocking filler, unless perhaps you’re an Amazonian.

See you Friday.

Previous post means Sevco amended/withdrew their claims to be the most successful club in the world.

Thus preserving both their dignity and unblemished, unbroken history hahahahahahahhaaa

You are confused. There were TWO difference complaints re Newco Rangers to ASA.

The BigAdCase – is ongoing and some clarification was provided earlier today.

The WeeAdCase – related to Newco Rangers outrageous claims re the % of the Scottish population who supported them. They were asked to provide evidence for such a claim so quickly withdrew with their Sevco tails between their legs.

I think you are referring to this WeeAdCase.

  3. Ernie-Celtic and the Council were at loggerheads for a long time over who would pay for the water to be removed, when we were interested in buying the school and renovating in to the Club Museum.Again, not sure what damage to the founds,or how hard people tried to save the school.

The idea that the ASA or any administrative body can to provide a definitive answer to whether or not they are a new club is silly.

The only way for the matter to be resolved is in court in a contested action.

That’s why Chuckles didn’t follow through with his threats to sue the players who walked away when the old club died.

In light of FAC campaign and tremendous support given to our Bhoys languishing in an Amsterdam jail and the living wage I think they will see a big increase in membership.

Your second link is something that has been bothering me for a while now………

I took classes in Company Law and my understanding is this:

    1. In administration you can continue with the brand, the name and trading (while they try to find a buyer or trade out of the situation) sans Motherwell?

    2. Once liquidated they cannot use the name or the brand lest the buying public and creditors become confused about the identities of the new business.

This should in theory mean no orc crest, blue jersey, black and red socks, aye ready badges etc

Other than changing their name from The xyz PLC to the xyz LTD………they continue to use the brand which is not permitted under the rules?

There must be one insolvency practitioner among us to give a definitive on this, surely?

  18. Hamiltontim.

I’m feeling fine, just made a Christmas Cake today reading the process after it comes out of the oven, surely what I’m reading must be wrong.

Wrap in a double layer of greaseproof paper and again in foil.store in a cool, dry place for up to three months, feeding at intervals with more brandy. After the three months I’ll have to take it to AA, to sober it up too much drink for a cake..

  20. HT / Bada

There’s one word on every Celtic fans lips who witnessed Amsterdam, and that’s ‘Police’.

I hope the Celtic investigation in long, and thorough.

The secondary aspect of media misrepresentation, should also be the subject of

a Celtic led inquiry, however we have a tendency not to take the media on, for some

    reason at Celtic.

That’s something that has to happen to effect change and progress, in this country.

  21. GlassTwoThirdsFull @ 17:21,

Totally true, the RFC ambiguity suits them, though the mess they made of the 5-way agreement and the looming insolvency event means it should all come out in the wash/laundry.

  25. bournesouprecipe-you have hit the nail on the head re Celtic giving the press a free hit anytime they want,as we don’t hit back.A major bugbear of mine,i know P67 is against banning anyone but i disagree. The less we do to defend our fans and players when necessary, the more we get bullied IMO.

As part of the upgrade to CP, the London Rd school will be demolished over the coming week.

It is with mixed feelings that I see it go. It has always been part of the Celtic landscape, and a lovely building in it’s own right.

I’m sure what we replace it with will be an asset to the club, and move us further into the 21st Century, but for me a little bit of paradise will be lost.

    ————-

    allright bud,

for a wee while i felt like a lone voice about the old school. i find it really strange to think about it getting pulled down, nothing more that sentimentality from me, but i really wanted it retained in some capacity, its a grand scottish lassie to celtic parks immigrant irish bhoy,

at the very least the materials should be salvaged and used somewhere in the new triangle. i like celtic park, but its missing all the old authentic features of the main stand. we are losing something.

i was up there sunday with a view to taking some pictures before it goes, but couldnt get near the area at the front door, oh well.

ps, i would bring back one big floodlight, just as an iconic nod to out past.

more than a building , these places.
